Book Synopsis Art and Immortality in the Ancient Near East by : Mehmet-Ali Ataç
Download or read book Art and Immortality in the Ancient Near East written by Mehmet-Ali Ataç and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussions of apocalyptic thought and its sources in the ancient Near East, particularly Mesopotamia, have a long scholarly history, with a renewed interest and focus in the recent decades. Outside Assyriological scholarship as well, studies of the apocalyptic give significant credit to the ancient Near East, especially Babylonia and Iran, as potential sources for the manifestations of this phenomenon in the Hellenistic period. The emphasis on kingship and empire in apocalyptic modes of thinking warrants special attention paid to the regal art of ancient Mesopotamia and adjacent areas in its potential to express the relevant notions. In this book, Mehmet-Ali Ataç demonstrates the importance of visual evidence as a source for apocalyptic thought. Focusing on the so-called investiture painting from Mari, he relates it to parallel evidence from the visual traditions of the Assyrian Empire, ancient Egypt, and Hittite Anatolia.

As an agent of the homeland security department, ICE, the beautiful, defiant female has an agenda of her own: to stop the ritualistic slaughter of innocent young women by a human trafficking ring. Little does she know, the evil she seeks is unlike anything she has ever witnessed. She has entered a world of warriors, code, and mystery, where the predators are divided only by degrees of light and shadow, and the dark handsome stranger who has come to her aid is the most dangerous of all. Download or read book Royal Babies written by Gill Knappett and published by Batsford Books. This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queen Victoria, once remarked 'I don't dislike babies though I think very young ones are rather disgusting'. She went on to have nine children. As 2018 heralds the arrival of Prince Louis for the House of Windsor, who is fifth in line to the throne, this book outlines all he can expect as a baby in the modern royal household. Exploring the history on the upbringing of royal children from Tudor births, this book looks at how customs and traditions have changed contrasting the formality of the Victorians when children were 'seen and not heard' through to the more relaxed discipline of the modern royals. It reveals how Princess Diana was one of the first senior royals to influence this change in how she brought up her two princes, William and Harry. As well as examining royal nurseries through the years, this book also looks at royal grannies, governesses and nannies and their influence on the young royals with their devotion and care. It also looks at the role of schooling from the strictness of Gordonstoun in Scotland to the traditions at Eton. This beautifully illustrated book is part of the Pitkin Royal Collection series, celebrating the lives of the British royal family. Other notable titles in this insightful series include Royal Babies, The Queen and Her Family and Queen Elizabeth II.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of American Princess: The Love Story of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry comes a funny and delightful history of the royal weddings and marriages of Europe’s most famous—and infamous—monarchs. “An irresistible combination of People magazine and the History Channel.”—Chicago Tribune Since time immemorial, royal marriages have had little to do with love—and almost everything to do with diplomacy and dynasty. Clashing personalities have joined in unholy matrimony to form such infamous couples as Russia’s Peter II and Catherine the Great, and France's Henri II and Catherine de Medici—all with the purpose of begetting a male heir. But with tensions high and silverware flying, kings like England’s Henry II have fled to the beds of their nubile mistresses, while queens such as Eleanor of Aquitaine have plotted their revenge... Full of the juicy gossip and bad behavior that characterized Royal Affairs, this book chronicles the love-hate marriages of the crowned heads of Europe—from the Angevins to Charles and Di—and ponders how dynasties ever survived at all.
