This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for mechanicians, engineering mathematicians, and, generally for theoretically inclined mechanical engineers. It has its origin in my Master's Thesis (J 957), which I wrote under the supervision of Professor Dr. R. Timman of the Delft TH and Dr. Ir. A. D. de Pater of Netherlands Railways. I did not think that the surface of the problem had even been scratched, so I joined de Pater, who had by then become Professor in the Engineering Mechanics Lab. of the Delft TH, to write my Ph. D. Thesis on it. This thesis (1967) was weil received in railway circles, which is due more to de Pater's untiring promotion than to its merits. Still not satisfied, I feit that I needed more mathe matics, and I joined Professor Timman's group as an Associate Professor. This led to the present work. Many thanks are due to G. M. L. Gladwell, who thoroughly polished style and contents of the manuscript. Thanks are also due to my wife, herself an engineering mathematician, who read the manuscript through critically, and made many helpful comments, to G. F. M. Braat, who also read an criticised, and, in addition, drew the figures together with J. Schonewille, to Ms. A. V. M. de Wit, Ms. M. den Boef, and Ms. P. c. Wilting, who typed the manuscript, and to the Publishers, who waited patiently. Delft-Rotterdam, 17 July 1990. J. J.

Book Synopsis Engineering Tribology by : Gwidon W. Stachowiak
Download or read book Engineering Tribology written by Gwidon W. Stachowiak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanisms of wear, friction and lubrication are comprehensively described in an accessible manner that is designed to be helpful to non-specialists. The control of wear is given extensive treatment with a thorough discussion of lubricant additives, solid lubricants and surface coatings. The effectiveness of coatings in suppressing specific forms of wear is described together with the methods of coating deposition. More than 1000 references are provided to give the reader access to more specialized information if required.
Book Synopsis Engineering Tribology by : Gwidon Stachowiak
Download or read book Engineering Tribology written by Gwidon Stachowiak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-03-31 with total page 831 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As with the previous edition, the third edition of Engineering Tribology provides a thorough understanding of friction and wear using technologies such as lubrication and special materials. Tribology is a complex topic with its own terminology and specialized concepts, yet is vitally important throughout all engineering disciplines, including mechanical design, aerodynamics, fluid dynamics and biomedical engineering. This edition includes updated material on the hydrodynamic aspects of tribology as well as new advances in the field of biotribology, with a focus throughout on the engineering applications of tribology. This book offers an extensive range if illustrations which communicate the basic concepts of tribology in engineering better than text alone. All chapters include an extensive list of references and citations to facilitate further in-depth research and thorough navigation through particular subjects covered in each chapter. Includes newly devised end-of-chapter problems Provides a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms of wear, lubrication and friction in an accessible manner designed to aid non-specialists Gives a reader-friendly approach to the subject using a graphic illustrative method to break down the typically complex problems associated with tribology
Book Synopsis Mathematical Foundation of Railroad Vehicle Systems by : Ahmed A. Shabana
Download or read book Mathematical Foundation of Railroad Vehicle Systems written by Ahmed A. Shabana and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MASTER AND INTEGRATE THE GEOMETRY AND MECHANICS OF RAILROAD VEHICLE SYSTEM ENGINEERING WITH ONE PRACTICAL RESOURCE Mathematical Foundation of Railroad Vehicle Systems: Geometry and Mechanics delivers a comprehensive treatment of the mathematical foundations of railroad vehicle systems. The book includes a strong emphasis on the integration of geometry and mechanics to create an accurate and accessible formulation of nonlinear dynamic equations and general computational algorithms that can be effectively used in the virtual prototyping, analysis, design, and performance evaluation of railroad vehicle systems. Using basic concepts, formulations, and computational algorithms, including mechanics-based approaches like the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF), readers will understand how to integrate the geometry and mechanics of railroad vehicle systems. The book also discusses new problems and issues in this area and describes how geometric and mechanical approaches can be used in derailment investigations. Mathematical Foundation of Railroad Vehicle Systems covers: The mathematical foundation of railroad vehicle systems through the integration of geometry and mechanics Basic concepts, formulations, and computational algorithms used in railroad vehicle system dynamics New mechanics-based approaches, like the ANCF, and their use to achieve an integration of geometry and mechanics Use of geometry and mechanics to study derailments New problems and issues in the area of railroad vehicle systems Designed for researchers and practicing engineers who work with railroad vehicle systems, Mathematical Foundation of Railroad Vehicle Systems: Geometry and Mechanics can also be used in senior undergraduate and graduate mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering programs and courses.
