Book Synopsis Life on Th' Rockin’ W by : Leon Willis
Download or read book Life on Th' Rockin’ W written by Leon Willis and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-11-11 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I started the story of Life On Th Rockin W in 1964. I have always loved horses, worked horses, and had a passion to draw. With that combination, I began to create a story in the form of a comic strip, of a familys struggles, good times, and adventures on a ranch. After the completion of 16 pages, I submitted the idea of Life On Th Rockin W to The Tennessean to become one of their papers comic strips. They rejected the idea and I returned home somewhat disappointed. Having the responsibility of supporting my family and helping my wife raise our seven children, I put my dream aside. In 2009, 45 years later, I resurrected my long neglected dream, the story of Life On Th Rockin W. The local weekly newspaper began to publish the comic strip and soon afterward had a dedicated following of readers. This book is a collection of the comic strip in its entirety. As the story unfolded there was a colt born, that was given the name Sparky. There was actually a horse in my past named Sparky. I had big dreams for him, maybe the next Trigger. I had to sell him because I had to go to War. The new Sparky that was revealed in the comic strip is in memory of the original. The coloring book Sparky and Some Friends was created from the story of Life On Th Rockin W. Family, true to life characters, friends, and neighbors form the nucleus of the book, along with a host of horses and other animals. I hope you have a good visit with us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eponymous comic became an instant hit when it went live on The Oatmeal.com and was liked on Facebook by 700,000 fans. Now fans will have a keepsake book of this comic to give and to keep. In My Dog: The Paradox, Inman discusses the canine penchant for rolling in horse droppings, chasing large animals four times their size, and acting recklessly enthusiastic through the entirety of their impulsive, lovable lives. Hilarious and heartfelt, My Dog: The Paradox eloquently illustrates the complicated relationship between man and dog. We will never know why dogs fear hair dryers, or being baited into staring contests with cats, but as Inman explains, perhaps we love dogs so much “because their lives aren’t lengthy, logical, or deliberate, but an explosive paradox composed of fur, teeth, and enthusiasm.”

Book excerpt: From New York Times bestselling author Susan Wilson comes What a Dog Knows, another heartwarming novel about humans and the dogs that change our lives. Ruby Heartwood has spent her life running away. Away from the orphanage where she was left as a newborn, away from those who exploited her, and away from the man who raped her. She ran from child welfare authorities as a runaway and teenage mother. She’s never stayed put. She’s never felt connected. Until now. Ruby is a psychic, a fortune teller. She has spent most of her life working at street fairs, carnivals, and the odd Renaissance Faire. Of late, her abilities to tell a person’s fortune have been declining. One night she pulls off the road during a violent thunderstorm, sheltering in her Volkswagen Westfalia. At the storm’s height, a bolt of lightning leaves Ruby shaken––and changes her life. As the storm clears, Ruby finds a visitor sitting outside her van door: a little dog who says, quite distinctly, Let me in. Ruby has woken up able to hear the thoughts of animals, so she adds that to her list of psychic offerings and signs up for the Harmony Farms Farmers’ Market and Makers Faire. With the little Hitchhiker, her fast friend and her familiar, Ruby finds herself lingering in Harmony Farms. At the same time, she is haunted by dreams that lead her to wonder if she hasn’t been running away all this time, but running toward something––or someone.

Book Synopsis Rockin' On The Rideau by : Jim Hurcomb
Download or read book Rockin' On The Rideau written by Jim Hurcomb and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-01-22 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The music world exploded into Technicolor on February 9, 1964, when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and ignited the music phenomenon dubbed “The British Invasion”. In the weeks and months to come, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Ottawa teenagers put away their hockey sticks and picked up guitars, starting up bands in basements and garages, with visions of screaming girls and stardom dancing in their heads. For some, that dream came true, in packed High School Gymnasiums, Church basements, bowling alleys and every other venue they could find. Groups were working three or four nights a week on both sides of the Ottawa River. The Esquires, The Staccatos, The Townsmen, Don Norman and the Other Four and many others cut records that were as good as anything coming out of Britain or the States. DJ's Gord Atkinson, Nelson Davis and Al "Pussycat" Pascal make them stars by playing their records. Sandy Gardiner followed their exploits in his weekly "teen" column in the Ottawa Journal, and we checked out the weekly "Swing Set" to get the lowdown on the newest groups. From the day Elvis Presley came to town in 1957, to the release of The Five Man Electrical Band’s mega-hit “Signs”, we relive those memories with the bands, the clubs, the concerts and the colorful cast of characters who made it happen. Pull back the curtain on the magic of "Ottawa’s Golden Age of Rock and Roll”,

Book excerpt: The Dog Log, written as a daily notation to the sheriff's department, begins as a simple complaint about a barking dog, but it soon becomes a powerful self-exploration and confessional. It's a touching, hilarious, and cleverly sneaky memoir of a man in Los Angeles who rediscovers himself when his elderly neighbor falls and he must reluctantly tend to her two badly behaved Yorkshire terriers. What he discovers in her apartment shocks him into a surprising decision, and by addressing her problems, he inadvertently resolves his own. With humor and honesty, The Dog Log looks into big-city loneliness, heartbreak, and old age, but then climbs into the light. When one man knocks on his neighbor's door, and his life changes forever.

Download or read book No Depression # 76 written by Grant Alden and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most of its thirteen-year history as a beloved and decorated music magazine, No Depression sought to be an instrument of change: to draw attention to the deep well of American musical traditions; to shine a light on performers whose gifts far exceed the size of their audiences or their pocketbooks; and to provide a safe harbor for the best long-form writing about music on the newsstand. These traditions continue through No Depression's now semi-annual series of bookazines. The inaugural bookazine, numberedND #76so as to make explicit the continuity betweenNo Depression's original and new formats, focused on the next generation of emerging roots music performers.ND #78, due out the fall of 2009, will focus on prominent families in American roots music, kinfolk who have stretched their artistic influence across generations. This will include in-depth pieces about bedrock clans of country music—the Carters and the Cashes—and folk music—the Guthries and the Seegers; profiles of country mavericks Steve and Justin Townes Earle and of jazz great Charlie Haden and his musically adventurous children; plus a more "metaphorical family" piece on the artistic "sons" of bluesman Rev. Gary Davis. The magazine's cofounders and coeditors, Grant Alden and Peter Blackstock, continue to guide the bookazine. The magazine's senior writers and contributors remain on board to shape the tone and voice of the bookazine, and its distinctive graphic design imprint continues in the hands of ND art director Grant Alden.
