Book Synopsis Flexible Automation in Developing Countries by : Ludovico Alcorta
Download or read book Flexible Automation in Developing Countries written by Ludovico Alcorta and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the extent of, and motives for, the diffusion of flexible automation (FA) at global level and then turns to the local and firm level, bringing together in-depth studies of sixty-two firms in Brazil, India, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey and Venezuela. Research focuses on the impact of computer-numerically-controlled machine tools on scale and scope by exploring changes in lot sizes and product variety (product scale and scope), total plant output (plant scale) and total firm output (firm scale). Barriers to setting up FA-based operations are discussed, as are factors which may affect a decision to locate in a developing country. The contributed studies reveal a relatively slow diffusion of FA in developing countries and it is demonstrated that while FA possibly increases scope, it also requires that plant output be increased in order to maintain efficiency. Alcorta concludes that the location in developing countries will probably only be viable for large domestic firms, multinationals seeking to relocate simple but labour intensive assembly processes and firms in countries with significant domestic markets. This work is unique in addressing the scale and scope issues in developing countries and in the wealth of information regarding machine tools which it provides. The data provided in the appendix includes official United Nations data, previously unpublished. This will be of use for all research into trends in the use of machine tools.
Book Synopsis New Frontiers in Manufacturing by : D.C. Teale
Download or read book New Frontiers in Manufacturing written by D.C. Teale and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Foreword: "It was not long ago that a company which adopted robot systems was said to be going boldly where no man had gone before. This is no longer true. There is now a great deal of experience in robot technology; robots are no longer remarkable, but they and their associated technologies are still the key to the future of manufacturing. In this conference you will discover what difficulties were experienced, how development problems were solved, and, most importantly, what were the benefits gained. The object of this conference is to spread the knowledge of the latest robot manufacturing technology and to assist you and your company to apply this technology to your operations."

Book Synopsis Modelling And Simulation Of Robot Manipulators: A Parallel Processing Approach by : Albert Y Zomaya
Download or read book Modelling And Simulation Of Robot Manipulators: A Parallel Processing Approach written by Albert Y Zomaya and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1993-01-29 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to describe how parallel computer architectures can be used to enhance the performance of robots, and their great impact on future generations of robots. It provides an in-depth, consistent and rigorous treatment of the topic. A clear definition of tools with results is given which can be applied to parallel processing for robot kinematics and dynamics. Another advantageous feature is that the algorithms presented have been implemented using a parallel processing system, unlike many publications in the field which have presented results in only theoretical terms. This book also includes “benchmark” results that can be used for the development of future work, or can serve as a basis for comparison with other work. In addition, it surveys useful material to aid readers in pursuing further research.
