Book excerpt: The Rijksmuseum and Ordovas are staging a unique joint exhibition in the autumn, centred around paintings and etchings by Rembrandt (1606–1669) on loan from the collection of the Rijksmuseum, in conversation with paintings by Frank Auerbach (b. 1931). The exhibition brings together a striking group of landscapes and portraits by Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn, and Frank Auerbach, the renowned British artist. Frank Auerbach is a painter steeped in tradition and his engagement with the Old Masters, and Rembrandt in particular, is well known and documented. He has been making drawings from, and occasionally producing paintings in response to, the Rembrandts and other Old Masters in the collection of the National Gallery throughout his career, as demonstrated in the 1995 exhibition at the National Gallery, 'Frank Auerbach and the National Gallery: Working after the Masters'.0Exhibition: Ordovas Gallery, London, UK (4.10.-1.12.2013) / Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Netherlands (12.12.2013-16.3.2014).

The celebration is not only happening in book form, as there is also the accompanying exhibition Everything at Once, co-organised with The Vinyl Factory, taking place at the Store Studios in London (5 October - 10 December).Lisson Gallery's extensive and unique archive provides this book with more than 2,000 illustrations gathered from five decades of resources, including installation views, invitations, letters, postcards and other ephemera, essays and significant press clippings. The A-Z structure of ARTIST WORK LISSON features every artist to have had a solo show with Lisson: from ABRAMOVIC, AKOMFRAH, ANDRE and ARCANGEL, to RYMAN, SANDBACK and WEINER. Each is accompanied by a short narrative, notable review or previously published extract by many of the finest writers of the last half century including: Stuart Morgan, Okwui Enwezor, Iwona Blazwick, Germano Celant, Chrissie Iles, Lisa Phillips, Roberta Smith, Homi K Bhabha, Tom McCarthy and Robert Storr. As well as a deep collection of textual, archival and visual material, ARTIST WORK LISSON includes a number of short essays and recollections by the founder, Nicholas Logsdail, and other members of the Lisson Gallery including Ossian Ward and Greg Hilty. These individual contributions, distributed throughout the book, address specific themes relevant to the gallery's unrivalled longevity and position at the centre of international contemporary art in Britain over the last 50 years: BEGINNINGS, COLLECTORS, MINIMALISM, INTERNATIONALISM, MARKET, MATERIAL, etc.Designed by renowned Dutch graphic designer Irma Boom, and follows the success of her Seth Siegelaub catalogue and exhibition design for the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam in 2016.

Book excerpt: The work of the Chinese artist Jia Aili (*1979 in Liaoning) possesses an unparalleled intensity. Whether reflecting on China's inauguration of the atomic bomb or the first satellites in 1970, the theme of Aili's oil paintings is the dramatic transformation of Chinese society over the past 50 years. The works simultaneously also convey a feeling of wonderment and fascination for the achievements and new possibilities that technological progress offers. It is a feeling Aili has particularly developed in his apocalyptic-seeming desert landscapes, which only allow space for isolated masked figures, usually astronauts. The monograph documents Aili's exhibitions over the past 10 years and shows the young Chinese artist's disparate sources of inspiration with the aid of discussions of individual works.

Book excerpt: - The comprehensive monograph of the Norwegian conceptual artist Bård Breivik- Includes 875 stunning color and black & white imagesThe work of the Norwegian artist Bård Breivik unfolds over more than 1,000 pages in a stunning presentation of a career in sculpture and Conceptual art encompassing more than forty years. Thematically arranged source material, including interviews, sketches, anecdotes and reviews, elucidate the phenomenon that is Bård Breivik. The sheer volume of his oeuvre is also reflected in his choice of materials: he switches as if by sleight of hand between sand and snow, wood, rock and steel. In a series that has continued to evolve since 1986, he has persisted in working on vertically arranged forms 120 cm in length, which have been designed with the means of differing cultural traditions, thus retaining their uniqueness. Book excerpt: In its exhibition, 'Dark mirror: art from Latinamerica since 1968', the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg provides compelling and multi-faceted look at contemporary art in Central and South America. Topics such as the literal and metaphorical boundaries of freedom, gender identity, social criticism and political power as well as reflections on nature vs. urban existence are examined via more than 150 works. These come from all genres of art - including installations, objects, paintings, photographs, videos and works on paper – and are shown in an exhibition space encompassing 1100 square meters. This extensive selection of works, from the largest and most important institution devoted to contemporary Latin American art in Europe: the Zurich-based Daros Latinamerica Collection, not only sheds light on parallels to the history of European art but also on specific Latin American developments, particularly since the 1960s. The works provide a striking picture of Latin American art’s creative diversity and energy. With respect to its beginnings in 1967 as well as its focus on groups of works by major artists, there are conceptual parallels between the Daros Latinamerica Collection and the holdings of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. The examination of the artistic continent of Latin America in the Dark Mirror exhibition also serves, in this context, as a laboratory for a global expansion of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg’s collection.00Exhibition: Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Germany (27.09.15 - 31.01.2016).
