Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you begin to read this, you start to remember. That fateful day, you may have been eating dinner, on your phone, coming home from work or school, or watching TV, when the Emergency Broadcast System emerged on every media outlet available. "THIS IS NOT A TEST," the screen read. "Lock every entrance, gather necessities, DO NOT go outside, and remain calm. Further instructions will soon follow." Zombies are a fickle creature; they're always changing. These zombies... They're unlike anything you've ever seen. The reality of having seen something that gruesome makes your heart race again. You remember the way they looked at first and having to study them to keep your spot at the top of the chain. You look around. You've established yourself again, reading a book you found to kill some time. Making the zombie apocalypse, simply something that you've experienced, among many other things. Now, let's get to that book! October 30, 2015, 7:58 p.m. That's when it all began for everyone, the awful sounds of the emergency alarms filling the air with panic. No one had a certain plan, just hopes for the best and quick wits. Robert Duncan was on a farm where he worked, fixing machines. His regular life would instantly change, and the world would flip on itself. The things he would do, the people he would meet, and the items he would obtain were not in his imagination. This is his story, just as you would have one, and what became of him...

Rudy teams up with his cabin-mate Mike for a series of carefully planned — yet hilariously bungled — escape attempts. Unfortunately, their counsellor (and nemesis) Chip is as determined to keep them there as they are to get away. Rudy and Mike spend their days plotting, playing chess, and working off punishments for their failed escapes. Hmmm, maybe it isn’t such a bad way to spend the summer after all . . .

Book Synopsis Proudly We Served by : Mary Pat Kelly
Download or read book Proudly We Served written by Mary Pat Kelly and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2015-02-15 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few Americans know the history-changing story of the men of the USS Mason, the only African-American sailors to take a World War II warship into combat. At a time when most blacks in the Navy were relegated to stewards or laborers, the crew of the USS Mason escorted six convoys across the perilous North Atlantic, helped to win the Battle of the Atlantic and directly influenced President Harry S. Truman’s decision to integrate all of America’s armed forces. Recommended in 1944 for a commendation for their heroic actions during a violent storm, the Mason sailors finally received that commendation in 1995. The Navy further honored the men by naming a new destroyer (DDG 87) after the crew of the Mason. This book is the basis of an award-winning PBS documentary and the feature film Proud starring Ossie Davis. The USS Mason story is featured in The National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Book Synopsis Let’s Go Sit Under the Mango Tree by : Grahame Kerr
Download or read book Let’s Go Sit Under the Mango Tree written by Grahame Kerr and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-29 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singapore in 1942 saw the greatest defeat of the British and Allied forces of WW2. Much has been written about the terrible time endured by the 85,000 troops who surrendered to the Japanese forces on 15 February 1942. Much less has been written about the circumstances surrounding the many civilians caught up in the fighting and subsequently interned or forced to endure occupation. Such was the speed with which the Japanese captured the Island that little time was given to removing resources that may assist them in furthering their aim of creating an Asian empire. One example is the fact that the island had become the centre for all the gold reserves of the Malay States and Singapore. The Japanese knew this and for nearly four years searched the island for the gold. To this day some of this gold may still be at large as no one ever kept a record of what gold was on the island and how much was consumed in paying the cost of the subsequent guerrilla warfare.
