Book excerpt: On April 10, 1970, Hill 927 was occupied by troopers of the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division. By July, the activities of the artillery and infantry of Ripcord had caught the attention of the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) and a long and deadly siege ensued. Ripcord was the Screaming Eagles’ last chance to do significant damage to the NVA in the A Shau Valley before the division was withdrawn from Vietnam and returned to the United States. At Ripcord, the enemy counterattacked with ferocity, using mortar and antiaircraft fire to inflict heavy causalities on the units operating there. The battle lasted four and a half months and exemplified the ultimate frustration of the Vietnam War: the inability of the American military to bring to bear its enormous resources to win on the battlefield. In the end, the 101st evacuated Ripcord, leaving the NVA in control of the battlefield. Contrary to the mantra “We won every battle but lost the war,” the United States was defeated at Ripcord. Now, at last, the full story of this terrible battle can be told.

Book Synopsis My Life as a Deaf Gay Man and Other Stories by : Peter Beach Morier
Download or read book My Life as a Deaf Gay Man and Other Stories written by Peter Beach Morier and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preface: The Inner Man By Margaret A. Pitts Peter B. Morier, who is deaf and gay, knows why he exists. I met him at Chestnut Lane, an assisted-living facility for deaf and blind people, while he was doing court-ordered community service. He was living in the past and present, and he also hoped that there would be a future for him-because at that point, his future was uncertain. He does not like to waste time. Peter has given his life to serving justice rather than adding to the numerous injustices and inequalities and the never-ending violence and viciousness that the world contains. At one point, Peter had thought that he would not make a difference. But he realizes that he was wrong to feel that way. Furthermore, other people have said that he has indeed made a difference. He never regretted the commitment he made. Peter shared his feelings with me and, at this point in his life, he is ready to keep moving forward. He has written this book with two goals. He wants to remove the stigmas that have been wrongfully placed on his life and give credibility to the Deaf and gay perspective. My name is Margaret Pitts, and I reside in Gresham, Oregon. I am Peter's ghostwriter, and he also considers me to be his "adopted sister." One part of Peter's book is one of the saddest yet most joyful stories ever printed. It is the story of how Peter found peace again, overcoming his fears with a newfound trust and transforming his life. It is truly a wonderful story to read and very inspiring. Peter has been praised for managing to tell such a difficult story. How painful it must have been for him to look back at those difficult times and transcend them. It is a wonderfully strong story, an epic journey about hope, strength, justice, and overcoming a multitude of adversities. It is a true test of human spirit and should inspire everyone to reach their highest potential in life, no matter what physical, psychological, or emotional obstacles are placed in his or her way. Peter is one of the most remarkable and multitalented human beings I know. I am proud to be his sister.

An outsider pretends to be an insider, is exposed as a fraud, a liar, and burned to the ground. In Ripcord, Nate Lippens continues his meditations on escape and connection, class, sex, and intimacy. Stuck in Milwaukee, the narrator cobbles together a living by bartending and catering weddings, enmeshed in a semiaffair with a younger, married man. Cruising apps while tallying his youthful romantic failures, he fantasizes about disappearance but finds both solace and frustration in his friendships with Charlie, an aging punk who was prominent in the 1990s Chicago queercore scene, and Greer, a painter who never broke through but continues making work.

With sharp, clear prose and an insider's view of the media, Petrick's stories take us into a hall of mirrors where men and women struggle to understand themselves and their relationships with one another. In a climate defined by images, does love stand a chance when no one is certain what is real? In the title story, an accomplished skydiver goes airborne with a video camera to capture the love of his life, but a small oversight upends his best intentions. In "Sins of the Father," a man arriving in Huntsville, Texas, to commute his son's death sentence clashes with a documentary producer intent on chasing the story to its bitter end. In "Telling Time," a corporate video producer, conflicted by his own immoral conduct, learns that sometimes the absolute truth is the most effective lie.
Book Synopsis postcard and other stories by : Anik See

A dissatisfied nomad traverses the globe, from Vancouver to Persepolis, chasing fleeting intimacies of her own as she tries to conjure confessions for the dead. In these six stories Anik See meticulously deconstructs love, art, and identity, blurring the distinctions between momentary lust and long-term intimacy, and loss and fulfillment. Throughout these explorations of somewhat muddled lives, See demonstrates an uncanny ability to distill often unsettling truths in prose that is intelligent, subtle, and unerringly cool. Intricate yet precise, postcard and other stories offers the reader a lucid perspective on the blurry, bewildering business of being human.
