Book excerpt: Workplace accidents and errors cost organizations hundreds of billions of dollars each year, and the injured workers and their families endure considerable financial and emotional suffering. It's obvious that increasing employee health and safety pays. The accumulating evidence shows that investing in occupational health and safety results in improved financial and social responsibility performance. There are extensive country differences and wide occupational differences in the incidence of accidents and errors. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that every year there are 2.2 million fatal and 270 million non-fatal accidents or occupational diseases worldwide. Occupational Health and Safety looks at the research into what causes accidents and errors in the workplace. In line with other titles in the series, Occupational Health and Safety emphasizes the psychological and behavioral aspects of risk in organizations. It highlights how organizations differ in their health and safety performance, with case studies throughout and best practices. Key elements focus on: employee selection and training, fostering employee understanding, participation and engagement in health and safety matters, developing a health and safety culture at organizational and group/work unit levels, communicating and reinforcing safe workplace practices and bench-marking one's organization against the industry leaders. The contributors to this volume come from various countries, reflecting unique interest and knowledge in particular areas.

Book Synopsis Leadership and Organizational Sustainability by : Elia Socorro Díaz Nieto
Download or read book Leadership and Organizational Sustainability written by Elia Socorro Díaz Nieto and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a new type of leadership focused on sustainable human development and organizational sustainability, which is based on the self-realization of the person of the leader, which means the satisfaction of their needs, according to the scale of Abraham Maslow, through integral human development in all aspects of life. Because the term "leader" appears to refer to anyone with the authority to confer a position with subordinates, the reality within organizations has shown that a leader must go further and demonstrate commitment, awareness, and concern for the common good. Which person has these characteristics? People who have had more opportunity to develop in different areas of their being, resulting in them being conceived as more educated. The qualities in a person are the basis of leadership. Education and practice are much more important than all hereditary and genetic codes. This volume explores the various ways of making explicit the dimensions of social, economic, and environmental sustainability through knowledge management that addresses the identification, collection, processing, circulation, use, exchange, and preservation of knowledge within operating systems and the context of organizations, considering issues that contribute to sustainability – human and organizational – where the leader is the main actor and the means is knowledge management.

This book was released on 2023-05-08 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world has been facing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for over two years now. Daily life changed dramatically, and social distancing and remote working have become the new normal. Research about how people are facing these challenges points to common findings and concerns. The pandemic has enhanced inequalities, taken a toll on mental health, and increased the use of digital technologies. Many workers are suffering from digital fatigue and struggle to self-regulate their life/work balance, as the permanent digital connection to work is reinforced and they struggle with the blurred borders concerning privacy, leisure, and rest. In this context, it is vital to research how organizations have reinvented themselves to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and understand which of the reactive workplace communication practices and improvised solutions were considered advantageous. Perspectives on Workplace Communication and Well-Being in Hybrid Work Environments presents different approaches that explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on workplace communication, focusing specifically on internal communication, mapping new communication practices, and assessing their consequences, namely the well-being of the workers who are coping with these changes. The book combines a scientific exploration of these ongoing changes as we transition to a post-COVID-19 world with a collection of examples and best practices that help organizations in supporting their members through these transformations and in nurturing their well-being. Covering topics such as cross-department process dependencies, hybrid work environments, and wellbeing strategies, this premier reference source is a vital resource for business leaders and managers, IT managers, human resource professionals, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Book Synopsis La productividad y el riesgo psicosocial o derivado de la organización del trabajo by : Ricardo Fernández García

This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Spanish Tourism Geographies by : Asunción Blanco-Romero
Download or read book Spanish Tourism Geographies written by Asunción Blanco-Romero and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-30 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the progress in Spanish tourism geography, particularly after the overlay of financial, pandemic and climate crisis, by the scrutiny of the different geographical areas and variables of analysis. It shows the diversity of geographical environments and their varied relationship with tourism, from the emptied inland regions to urban heritage in historic centres to coastal resorts. The book also introduces the analysis of the most important variables when studying the implications of Spanish tourist specialization. How are the beaches with intensive tourist use managed? What socio-spatial processes do leisure-rooted migrations involve? What are the labour conditions in the Spanish tourism industry? How does saving water boost tourism growth? The book offers answers through a methodological specificity of Spanish geography, which is highly oriented towards the analysis of public policies and even the proposal of new planning and methodology formulas that go beyond diagnostic studies. The domestic perspective, or that of insiders, of these scientists residing in Spain bestows them with special codes for conducting interpretations and analyses based on their everyday proximity to a territory characterised by its intense touristification. The tourism and real estate specialisation that Spanish society, together with its territory and institutions, have forged since the beginning of “developmentalism” permeates this scientific analysis. By providing a strong conceptual and empirical portrait, this book is a great resource for students and scholars in geography of tourism, as well as for social scientists and policy makers.
