Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive study guide offering in-depth explanation, essay, and test prep for William Shakespeare's Richard III, which explores fate and freedom as it plays out in the life of a monarch. As a historical play of the late-sixteenth-century, Richard III plays with humor and the dichotomy between how King Richard presented himself versus how his subjects viewed him. The play includes themes like crime and conscience, specifically the ways Richard pushed aside his conscience and used murder as a tool in his schemes. Moreover, this shows the cultural entitlement of nobles and poses the question of whether anyone in Richard's Court truly knew good from evil. This Bright Notes Study Guide explores the context and history of Shakespeare's classic work, helping students to thoroughly explore the reasons it has stood the literary test of time. Each Bright Notes Study Guide contains: - Introductions to the Author and the Work - Character Summaries - Plot Guides - Section and Chapter Overviews - Test Essay and Study Q&As The Bright Notes Study Guide series offers an in-depth tour of more than 275 classic works of literature, exploring characters, critical commentary, historical background, plots, and themes. This set of study guides encourages readers to dig deeper in their understanding by including essay questions and answers as well as topics for further research.
Book Synopsis Richard III by : William Shakespeare
Download or read book Richard III written by William Shakespeare and published by 谷月社. This book was released on 2015-07-29 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard III is a historical play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in approximately 1592. It depicts the Machiavellian rise to power and subsequent short reign of Richard III of England.[1] The play is grouped among the histories in the First Folio and is most often classified as such. Occasionally, however, as in the quarto edition, it is termed a tragedy. Richard III concludes Shakespeare's first tetralogy (also containing Henry VI parts 1–3). It is the second longest play in the canon after Hamlet, and is the longest of the First Folio, whose version of Hamlet is shorter than its Quarto counterpart. The play is rarely performed unabridged; often, certain peripheral characters are removed entirely. In such instances extra lines are often invented or added from elsewhere in the sequence to establish the nature of characters' relationships. A further reason for abridgment is that Shakespeare assumed that his audiences would be familiar with the Henry VI plays, and frequently made indirect references to events in them, such as Richard's murder of Henry VI or the defeat of Henry's queen, Margaret.

Book Synopsis King Richard III by : William Shakespeare
Download or read book King Richard III written by William Shakespeare and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-12-02 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: King Richard III is one of Shakespeare's most popular and frequently-performed plays. Janis Lull's introduction to this new edition, based on the First Folio, emphasises the play's tragic themes - individual identity, determinism and choice - and stresses the importance of women's roles in the play. It also underscores the special relationship between Richard III and Macbeth, demonstrating that the later tragedy re-examines issues raised in the earlier one. A thorough performance history of stage and film versions of Richard III shows how the text has been cut, rewritten and re-shaped by directors and actors to enhance the role of Richard at the expense of other parts, especially those of the women. The notes define the play's language and ideas in terms easily accessible to contemporary readers.
