Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the downfall of the Derge and the establishment of the decree for religious freedom, there have been types of problems related to the size and type of groups that have greatly affected the Ethiopian evangelical church. The first category of problem is due to the attraction that many contemporary church leaders have for reaching multitudes and building mega-church ministries at the expense of small group ministries. Because of the priority on the large group environment, small group ministries have been neglected resulting in a whole generation of students and people who have never experience the vibrant spiritual benefits of a small group. As a result, believers are inclined to attend only Sunday Worship Services and the rest of the week live disconnected from vital relational community and involvement. Too many churches in Ethiopia today have chosen to focus on the quantity of the people rather than the quality of the disciple, resulting in the spiritual diseases of nominalism and carnality. Discipleship and biblical Koinonia are being ignored; therefore, many people are not experiencing the richness of biblical Christianity in many practical ways. This has resulted in the loss of Ethiopian Evangelicals’ identity as well as an influence on all aspects of Ethiopian culture including her institutions and government.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living as an Ordinary RadicalMany of us find ourselves caught somewhere between unbelieving activists and inactive believers. We can write a check to feed starving children or hold signs in the streets and feel like we’ve made a difference without ever encountering the faces of the suffering masses. In this book, Shane Claiborne describes an authentic faith rooted in belief, action, and love, inviting us into a movement of the Spirit that begins inside each of us and extends into a broken world. Shane’s faith led him to dress the wounds of lepers with Mother Teresa, visit families in Iraq amidst bombings, and dump $10,000 in coins and bills on Wall Street to redistribute wealth. Shane lives out this revolution each day in his local neighborhood, an impoverished community in North Philadelphia, by living among the homeless, helping local kids with homework, and “practicing resurrection” in the forgotten places of our world. Shane’s message will comfort the disturbed, and disturb the comfortable . . . but will also invite us into an irresistible revolution. His is a vision for ordinary radicals ready to change the world with little acts of love.

Book Synopsis Church and State Education in Revolutionary Mexico City by : Patience A. Schell
Download or read book Church and State Education in Revolutionary Mexico City written by Patience A. Schell and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revolution in Mexico sought to subordinate church to state and push the church out of public life. Nevertheless, state and church shared a concern for the nation's social problems. Until the breakdown of church-state cooperation in 1926, they ignored the political chasm separating them to address those problems through education in order to instill in citizens a new sense of patriotism, a strong work ethic, and adherence to traditional gender roles. This book examines primary, vocational, private, and parochial education in Mexico City from 1917 to 1926 and shows how it was affected by the relations between the revolutionary state and the Roman Catholic Church. One of the first books to look at revolutionary programs in the capital immediately after the Revolution, it shows how government social reform and Catholic social action overlapped and identifies clear points of convergence while also offering vivid descriptions of everyday life in revolutionary Mexico City. Comparing curricula and practice in Catholic and public schools, Patience Schell describes scandals and successes in classrooms throughout Mexico City. Her re-creation of day-to-day schooling shows how teachers, inspectors, volunteers, and priests, even while facing material shortages, struggled to educate Mexico City's residents out of a conviction that they were transforming society. She also reviews broader federal and Catholic social action programs such as films, unionization projects, and libraries that sought to instill a new morality in the working class. Finally, she situates education among larger issues that eventually divided church and state and examines the impact of the restrictions placed on Catholic education in 1926. Schell sheds new light on the common cause between revolutionary state education and Catholic tradition and provides new insight into the wider issue of the relationship between the revolutionary state and civil society. As the presidency of Vicente Fox revives questions of church involvement in Mexican public life, her study provides a solid foundation for understanding the tenor and tenure of that age-old relationship.

This book was released on with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a day and an hour when Christianity is interpreted to mean varied and sundry things, this book---Real Christianity as Exemplified by the Post-Cultural Revolution Church in China---examines what constitutes Biblical Christianity? As referenced in the title, Bible Believers in China have a defining role in this assessment. Though faced with difficulties, the Post-Cultural Revolution Church in China, provided a sterling example of loving The Lord God with all one's heart, soul, mind and strength, and one's neighbor as oneself. These Believers understood they were granted access to eternal life with the Eternal Self-existent God, through His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ. from their perspective, such a privilege did not portend to magniloquence or prosperity gospel outputs. Rather, they viewed it as a call to live soberly, righteously and Godly in this present age. The subtitle of this book is: !01 Theological Questions Pertaining to the Kingdom of God Biblically Answered. Those questions and answers were submitted in a survey across China in the early-to-mid-1980's, by Christians who mostly did not know each other. The results, which are presented in this book, were both revealing and enlightening. It is hoped this book will help you better know and understand the Word of God, and enable you to not fall away from your faith and eternal rewards.

Book Synopsis The Coming Revolution in Church Economics by : Mark DeYmaz
Download or read book The Coming Revolution in Church Economics written by Mark DeYmaz and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our entire understanding of funding and sustainability must change. Tithes and offerings alone are no longer enough to provide for the needs of the local church, enable pastors to pursue opportunities, or sustain long-term ministry impact. Growing financial burdens on the middle class, marginal increases in contributions to religious organizations, shifting generational attitudes toward giving, and changing demographics are having a negative impact on church budgets. Given that someday local churches may be required to pay taxes on the property they own and/or lose the benefit of soliciting tax-deductible gifts, the time to pivot is now. What's needed is disruptive innovation in church economics. For churches to not only survive but thrive in the future, leaders must learn to leverage assets, bless the community, empower entrepreneurs, and create multiple streams of income to effectively fund mission. You'll learn why you should and how to do so in The Coming Revolution in Church Economics.
Book Synopsis Terrible Revolution by : Christopher James Blythe
Download or read book Terrible Revolution written by Christopher James Blythe and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-17 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between early Mormons and the United States was marked by anxiety and hostility, heightened over the course of the nineteenth century by the assassination of Mormon leaders, the Saints' exile from Missouri and Illinois, the military occupation of the Utah territory, and the national crusade against those who practiced plural marriage. Nineteenth-century Latter-day Saints looked forward to apocalyptic events that would unseat corrupt governments across the globe, particularly the tyrannical government of the United States. The infamous "White Horse Prophecy" referred to this coming American apocalypse as "a terrible revolutionEL in the land of America, such as has never been seen before; for the land will be literally left without a supreme government." Mormons envisioned divine deliverance by way of plagues, natural disasters, foreign invasions, American Indian raids, slave uprisings, or civil war unleashed on American cities and American people. For the Saints, these violent images promised a national rebirth that would vouchsafe the protections of the United States Constitution and end their oppression. In Terrible Revolution, Christopher James Blythe examines apocalypticism across the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, particularly as it took shape in the writings and visions of the laity. The responses of the church hierarchy to apocalyptic lay prophecies promoted their own form of separatist nationalism during the nineteenth century. Yet, after Utah obtained statehood, as the church sought to assimilate to national religious norms, these same leaders sought to lessen the tensions between themselves and American political and cultural powers. As a result, visions of a violent end to the nation became a liability to disavow and regulate. Ultimately, Blythe argues that the visionary world of early Mormonism, with its apocalyptic emphases, continued in the church's mainstream culture in modified forms but continued to maintain separatist radical forms at the level of folk-belief.
