Download or read book Revival: The New Generation (1930) written by Victor Francis Calverton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-04-20 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second presentation by these editors of a collection of essays dealing with the changing point of view relative to morals, particularly as they affect the marital state. The contributions to this volume include all of those names that have become prominent in the field of psychology and sociology. The one question that arises in the mind of the critic is whether or not it is wise to distribute for general reading to a popular audience such discussions of sex perversion as this volume makes available. The essays are all of interest, although many of the authors are unnecessarily verbose.
Book Synopsis The Chinese May Fourth Generation and the Irish Literary Revival: Writers and Fighters by : Simone O’Malley-Sutton
Download or read book The Chinese May Fourth Generation and the Irish Literary Revival: Writers and Fighters written by Simone O’Malley-Sutton and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how the early twentieth-century Irish Renaissance (Irish Literary Revival) inspired the Chinese Renaissance (the May Fourth generation) of writers to make agentic choices and translingual exchanges. It sheds a new light on “May Fourth” and on the Irish Renaissance by establishing that the Irish Literary Revival (1900-1922) provided an alternative decolonizing model of resistance for the Chinese Renaissance to that provided by the western imperial center. The book also argues that Chinese May Fourth intellectuals translated Irish Revivalist plays by W. B. Yeats, Lady Gregory, Seán O’Casey and Synge and that Chinese peasants performed these plays throughout China during the 1920s and 1930s as a form of anti-imperial resistance. Yet this literary exchange was not simply going one way, since Yeats, Lady Gregory, Synge and O’Casey were also influenced by Chinese developments in literature and politics. Therefore this was a reciprocal encounter based on the circulation of Anti-colonial ideals and mutual transformation.
Download or read book Spiritual CPR written by Todd Phillips and published by David C Cook. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you could bring life to someone who was dead or dying, would you? There are many books that explain "how" to share faith and other books tell us "what" to share with people--but few books explore the "why." What the church needs is a compelling "why" to get out of their comfort zone and change the world with the gospel. The church, for centuries, has used Matthew 28:19-20, "Go and make disciples...baptize...and teach..." as the clarion call of the church to tell the world about Jesus. "Christians, as a community, seem not to know the 'why' of evangelism. They see evangelism as just digging another hole. They are not told that each thrust of the shovel digs deeper into a ground soaked with an eternal water; an eternal well-spring of true life for the non-believer and a virtual fountain of youth for the believer who shares his faith. The purpose of this book is to show that there is an inescapable connection between those who share their faith and those who experience complete joy. Spiritual CPR will help Christians realize that the sharing of their faith produces a spiritually abundant life.

Book Synopsis Reviving Ophelia by : Mary Pipher, PhD
Download or read book Reviving Ophelia written by Mary Pipher, PhD and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller The groundbreaking work that poses one of the most provocative questions of a generation: what is happening to the selves of adolescent girls? As a therapist, Mary Pipher was becoming frustrated with the growing problems among adolescent girls. Why were so many of them turning to therapy in the first place? Why had these lovely and promising human beings fallen prey to depression, eating disorders, suicide attempts, and crushingly low self-esteem? The answer hit a nerve with Pipher, with parents, and with the girls themselves. Crashing and burning in a “developmental Bermuda Triangle,” they were coming of age in a media-saturated culture preoccupied with unrealistic ideals of beauty and images of dehumanized sex, a culture rife with addictions and sexually transmitted diseases. They were losing their resiliency and optimism in a “girl-poisoning” culture that propagated values at odds with those necessary to survive. Told in the brave, fearless, and honest voices of the girls themselves who are emerging from the chaos of adolescence, Reviving Ophelia is a call to arms, offering important tactics, empathy, and strength, and urging a change where young hearts can flourish again, and rediscover and reengage their sense of self.

Book Synopsis The Vanishing Generation by : Bagila Bukharbayeva
Download or read book The Vanishing Generation written by Bagila Bukharbayeva and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young reporter in Uzbekistan, Bagila Bukharbayeva was a witness to her countrys search for an identity after the collapse of the Soviet Union. While self-proclaimed religious leaders argued about what was the true Islam, Bukharbayeva shows how some of the neighborhood boys became religious, then devout, and then a threat to the country's authoritarian government. The Vanishing Generation provides an unparalleled look into what life is like in a religious sect, the experience of people who live for months and even years in hiding, and the fabricated evidence, torture, and kidnappings that characterize an authoritarian government. In doing so, she provides a rare and unforgettable story of what life is like today inside the secretive and tightly controlled country of Uzbekistan. Balancing intimate memories of playmates and neighborhood crushes with harrowing stories of extremism and authoritarianism, Bukharbayeva gives a voice to victims whose stories would never otherwise be heard.
