In ihrer typischen Form haben sie eine runde maulbeerartige Gestalt, doch kommen alle Abstufungen bis zu jenen Formen vor, die den einfachen Lymphkorperchen gleichen. Nach Angabe der meisten Autoren verschwinden die Kolostrumkorperchen beim Menschen in der ersten Woche des Stillens und treten wiederum in der Milch auf, wenn das Sauggeschaft fur langere Zeit unterbrochen wird. Bei Tieren kommen die Kolostrumkorperchen in gleicher Form und unter ahnlichen Bedingungen vor wie beim Menschen. Die Kolostralmilch weisst einen viel grosseren Wechsel ihrer Bestandteile auf, als die normale Milch.--Der Unterschied in der chemischen Zusammensetzung des Kolostrums und der gewohnlichen Milch liegt darin, dass das Kolostrum etwas weniger Fett und Milchzucker, aber wesentlich mehr Eiweisskorper enthalt, als die gewohnliche Milch. Unter den Eiweisskorpern sind vorwiegend die durch Kochen gerinnbaren Globuline und Albumine vermehrt (Sebelien, Emerling, Tiein ann). Houdet gibt eine anschauliche Tabelle von dem Wechsel in der Zusammensetzung der Kolostralmilch. Direkt nach dem Kalben zeigte das Kolostrum die leichte Gerinnbarkeit der Kolostralmilch. Was die Bedeutung der Kolostrumkorperchen betrifft, so wurden dieselben zunachst fur Konglomerate feinster Fetttropfen gehalten (Limon, Mandl), spater hat man diese Gebilde allgemein als in fettiger Degeneration begriffene Epithelien angesehen (Reinhardt, Will, de Sinoty, Buchholz).
