Book Synopsis Coal Gasification and Its Applications by : David A. Bell
Download or read book Coal Gasification and Its Applications written by David A. Bell and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2010-12-08 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skyrocketing energy costs have spurred renewed interest in coal gasification. Currently available information on this subject needs to be updated, however, and focused on specific coals and end products. For example, carbon capture and sequestration, previously given little attention, now has a prominent role in coal conversion processes. This book approaches coal gasification and related technologies from a process engineering point of view, with topics chosen to aid the process engineer who is interested in a complete, coal-to-products system. It provides a perspective for engineers and scientists who analyze and improve components of coal conversion processes. The first topic describes the nature and availability of coal. Next, the fundamentals of gasification are described, followed by a description of gasification technologies and gas cleaning processes. The conversion of syngas to electricity, fuels and chemicals is then discussed. Finally, process economics are covered. Emphasis is given to the selection of gasification technology based on the type of coal fed to the gasifier and desired end product: E.g., lower temperature gasifiers produce substantial quantities of methane, which is undesirable in an ammonia synthesis feed. This book also reviews gasification kinetics which is informed by recent papers and process design studies by the US Department of Energy and other groups, and also largely ignored by other gasification books.• Approaches coal gasification and related technologies from a process engineering point of view, providing a perspective for engineers and scientists who analyze and improve components of coal conversion processes • Describes the fundamentals of gasification, gasification technologies, and gas cleaning processes • Emphasizes the importance of the coal types fed to the gasifier and desired end products • Covers gasification kinetics, which was largely ignored by other gasification books Provides a perspective for engineers and scientists who analyze and improve components of the coal conversion processes Describes the fundamentals of gasification, gasification technologies, and gas cleaning processes Covers gasification kinetics, which was largely ignored by other gasification books

Book Synopsis Gasification by : Christopher Higman
Download or read book Gasification written by Christopher Higman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-10-21 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an excellent overview of current technologies for the gasification of coal, oil, gas, biomass and waste feedstocks. Starting from the basic theory, it reviews the potential feedstocks and their suitability for different types of gasification process. Commercial and near-commercial processes are described individually and various features discussed in detail. There is a comprehensive review of contaminants in synthesis gas as well as of gas treating processes. One chapter is devoted to discussions of various chemical, fuel and power applications for gasification. Economic, environmental and safety issues of gasification are also covered. Both authors have been involved with gasification for over 30 years, gaining in the process a fund of practical insight and experience, which is evident throughout the book. * Addresses practical issues such as selection of the best equipment. * Ideal reference for anyone involved in operating or designing a gasification plant.* Written in an easy-to-understand format with worked examples and a comprehensive glossary and bibliography.
Book Synopsis Carbon and Coal Gasification by : J.L. Figueiredo
Download or read book Carbon and Coal Gasification written by J.L. Figueiredo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon gasification reactions form the basis of many important industrial processes, such as the combustion of coal and the produc tion of synthesis gas, fuel gases and activated carbons. They are also involved in metallurgical processes and in the regeneration of coked catalysts. Thus, understanding the fundamentals of carbon gasification is of vital importance for further technological development. Moreover, the subject is of interdisciplinary nature, involving chemistry, ma terials science and chemical engineering. Therefore, it was thought that an Advanced Study Institute would be fruitful in establishing the state of the art, in bringing together experts from the various sectors involved and in identifying areas of required research and industrial development. Such a meeting was held at Alvor, Portugal, from the 20th to the 31st May 1985, and the lectures presented the reof are collected in this volume. The present volume is organized in seven chapters. The Intro duction presents the carbon gasification reactions an~ their rele vance for particular processes and industrial uses. In the second chapter, the structures of carbon and coal are reviewed, together with methods of structural, chemical and textural characterization.

Book Synopsis A Review of C-MU Contributions to DOE-FE's Coal Gasification Environmental Assessment Program by : Michael J. Massey
Download or read book A Review of C-MU Contributions to DOE-FE's Coal Gasification Environmental Assessment Program written by Michael J. Massey and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its early discussions and proposal to DOE concerning this program, C-MU stressed the critical role of process engineering analysis in the formulation of specific environmental program plans both within and across the various pilot plants. The evaluation of DOE's overall program plan, C-MU's role as program coordinator and evaluator, and its specific contract work statement all reflect a basic commitment to a strategy of process engineering analysis of scalable pilot plant environmental characteristics. In its role of providing assistance, coordination, and evaluation C-MU has performed four basic tasks: Strategic development of an effluent data base; analysis of process-related environmental engineering problems; coordination of industrial hygiene sampling and analysis efforts at the DOE pilot plants; and environmental assessment support activities. A brief but comprehensive review is given of C-MU activities and accomplishments within and across these organizations with respect to each of these four tasks. Included are references to all reports and publications generated during the course of the work.
Book Synopsis Gasification Processes by : Petr A. Nikrityuk
Download or read book Gasification Processes written by Petr A. Nikrityuk and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-09-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between the well-known technological description of gasification and the underlying theoretical understanding, this book covers the latest numerical and semi-empirical models describing interphase phenomena in high-temperature conversion processes. Consequently, it focuses on the description of gas-particle reaction systems by state-of-the-art computational models in an integrated, unified form. Special attention is paid to understanding and modeling the interaction between individual coal particles and a surrounding hot gas, including heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions inside the particle on the particle interface and near the interface between the solid and gas phases. While serving the needs of engineers involved in industrial research, development and design in the field of gasification technologies, this book's in-depth coverage makes it equally ideal for young and established researchers in the fields of thermal sciences and chemical engineering with a focus on heterogeneous and homogeneous reactions.
