Book Synopsis Modelling Intelligent Multi-Modal Transit Systems by : Agostino Nuzzolo
Download or read book Modelling Intelligent Multi-Modal Transit Systems written by Agostino Nuzzolo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing mobility needs of travellers have led to the development of increasingly complex and integrated multi-modal transit networks. Hence, transport agencies and transit operators are now more urgently required to assist in the challenging task of effectively and efficiently planning, managing, and governing transit networks. A pre-condition for the development of an effective intelligent multi-modal transit system is the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) tools that will support the needs of transit operators and travellers. To achieve this, reliable real-time simulation and short-term forecasting of passenger demand and service network conditions are required to provide both real-time traveller information and successfully synchronise transit service planning and operations control. Modelling Intelligent Multi-Modal Transit Systems introduces the current trends in this newly emerging area. Recent developments in information technology and telematics have enabled a large amount of data to become available, thus further attracting transport researchers to set up new models outside the context of the traditional data-driven approach. The alternative demand-supply interaction or network assignment modelling approach has improved greatly in recent years and has a crucial role to play in this new context.

Book Synopsis Integrating Human Factors Methods and Systems Thinking for Transport Analysis and Design by : Gemma J. M. Read
Download or read book Integrating Human Factors Methods and Systems Thinking for Transport Analysis and Design written by Gemma J. M. Read and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-26 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments and road safety agencies around the world have either introduced or are considering 'safe system' strategies, a long overdue acknowledgement that different elements of the road system contribute to road safety outcomes. Human factors approaches have a leading role here in both conceptualising the road system as a complex sociotechnical system and in providing practical approaches to support true systems-based countermeasures. This book illustrates the potential for integrating contemporary systems-based human factors methods with modern day driving-assessment methods, such as vehicle instrumentation and driving simulation, to understand and enhance performance in modern day road-transport systems. The book outlines why a fundamental paradigm shift is needed in the way these systems are designed and operated, and illustrates how a wide range of accepted human-factors approaches can be applied successfully to road transport to revolutionise the countermeasure design process. The practical illustrations of these human factors methods are applied to a long-standing road and rail safety issue: rail level crossings, where the road and rail systems intersect. The final chapter of the book highlights the utility of the human factors approach to reducing road trauma and discusses future applications of the approach.
Book Synopsis Real-time Bus Arrival Information Systems by : Carol L. Schweiger
Download or read book Real-time Bus Arrival Information Systems written by Carol L. Schweiger and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2003 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis describes the state of the practice in real-time bus arrival informations systems, including both U.S. and international experience. The panel for this project chose to focus on bus systems, rather than all transit modes, and on the following six elements of these systems: bus system characteristics; real-time bus arrival information system characteristics, including information about the underlying technology and dissemination media; system prediction, accuracy, and reliability; system costs; customer and media reactions; and institutional and organizational issues associated with the system.
Book Synopsis Symmetry in Mathematical Analysis and Application by : Luigi Rodino
Download or read book Symmetry in Mathematical Analysis and Application written by Luigi Rodino and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book appeals to scientists, teachers and graduate students in mathematics, and will be of interest for scholars in applied sciences as well, in particular in medicine, biology and social sciences. The models in this connection apply, in particular, to the study of the immune system response and to the predator–prey dynamic. The efficiency of public transport is also considered and blast waves in explosions are studied. Other contributions concern pure mathematics, in particular Pythagorean means, sequences of matrices and Markov chains, and these give evidence of deep links with Symmetry.
