Book excerpt: When Wade Franklin returns to his hometown of Taylor's Crossing, Georgia, his future hangs in the balance. He is in love with his lifelong friend and college sweetheart, Pamela Palmer, but will she take him back after a two-year absence? He left without saying goodbye or giving any explanation, and now it is time to reveal his reasons for doing so. Pam is finally making a life of her own as editor of the local newspaper, the Taylor Times, and her world is shaken when Wade returns to town. An incidental meeting provides the opportunity to renew their friendship, and both are keenly aware that the bond between them is still very strong. As their relationship deepens, Wade is completely honest with Pam, and his story launches them on a path that literally changes their lives. His truthfulness about his father's undercover assignment and unsolved murder sets the stage for a web of intrigue that reaches from Atlanta, Georgia, to New York City. Searching is a poignant story of love, faith, and the certainty of God's provision in times of need. It presents an intricately woven tapestry of characters who struggle with the flaws of humanity-broken hearts, shattered dreams, and painful memories. From beginning to end, their lives are under the watchful eye and the guiding hand of the Lord, as he awakens their hearts to an awareness of who he is and offers love, forgiveness, and salvation to those who seek him in faith.

Struggling with the guilt of his own missing daughter on the mainland a year before, Taylor has since become a chronic sleepwalker. So, when another little girl goes missing in his park a year to the day of his own child's unsolved disappearance, Taylor's sense of redemption finds him wading in over his head to find her. The only problem is, due to his sleep-walking, Taylor must first take himself off the growing list of suspects. As the clues mount, he races against time and the rising lake waters to find the girl. Book Synopsis The Texas Revolution and the U.S.-Mexican War by : Paul Calore
Download or read book The Texas Revolution and the U.S.-Mexican War written by Paul Calore and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This narrative history describes the events preceding, and the prosecution of, the Texas Revolution and the U.S.-Mexican War. It begins with the introduction of the empresario system in Mexico in 1823, a system of land distribution to American farmers and ranchers in an attempt to strengthen the postwar economy following Mexico's independence from Spain. Once welcomed as fellow countrymen, the new settlers, homesteading on land destined to be called Texas, were viewed as enemies when in 1835 they revolted against the government's harsh Centralist rulings. Winning independence from Mexico and recognition from the United States as the independent Republic of Texas only intensified the Mexican refusal to accept their loss of Texas as legitimate. The final straw for both sides came when Texas was granted U.S. statehood and 11 American soldiers were ambushed and murdered. As a result, Congress declared war on Mexico, a bloody conflict that resulted in the U.S. gain of 525,000 square miles.

Book excerpt: Romance unfolds under the mountain landscapes of Oregon in these three novels available in one volume by the #1 New York Times bestselling author. Attorney Jake McGowan couldn’t feel much sympathy for the woman who’d married his wealthy, despicable, sworn enemy. But now that she was embroiled in a child custody battle, he would help her. And getting revenge against her ex is even sweeter when it leads to love. Superstardom hasn’t helped world-class skier Gavin Doel get over his first love, or the way she inexplicably left him. When he returns to Taylor’s Crossing, and finds himself facing her, his bitterness is impossible to hide. But as he tries to uncover the buried truth of their past, he’s surprised to discover a second chance at the love he never forgot. Beyond his professional success, nothing has changed for developer Brandon Scarlotti since he left Rimrock—especially not his feelings for Dani Stewart. Now that he’s back, maybe he’ll discover what went so wrong between them. But what he doesn’t know will change both their lives forever.
