Book Synopsis Resurrection Songs by : Michael Bradshaw

Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. Thomas Lovell Beddoes (1803-49) was a powerful poet of the English Romantic period, who has been and is still strangely neglected by critics. His macabre blank verse dramatic writings and his delicately balanced lyrics have both won ardent admirers such as Browning, Gosse, Pound and Christopher Ricks. Yet there are formal and generic problems in Beddoes's writings which continue to marginalize him as merely an eccentric, and the canon of Romanticism seems to have found no place for him.

Book Synopsis Resurgit a Collection of Hymns and Songs of the Resurrection by : Frank Foxcroft
Download or read book Resurgit a Collection of Hymns and Songs of the Resurrection written by Frank Foxcroft and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Resurgit a Collection of Hymns and Songs of the Resurrection The present volume explains, and, it may be hoped, justifies itself. It is the result of a more careful search than has been hitherto made in the rich field of resurrection-poetry. It finds its purpose in a desire to contribute to the observance of a day, the hopes and associations of which are precious to all branches of the Christian Church; and, besides this, to present a collection of verse sufficiently varied and suggestive to be welcome not only at Easter-time, but throughout the year. For the Christian Sabbath is itself a weekly commemoration of the rising of Christ, and we do not wisely if we keep the Easter-feast but once a year. The scope of the volume might have been greatly enlarged by including poems relating to the ascension and exaltation of Christ, or to the general resurrection, and the joys of heaven. Book Synopsis Singing the Resurrection by : Erin M. Lambert
Download or read book Singing the Resurrection written by Erin M. Lambert and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singing the Resurrection brings music to the foreground of Reformation studies, as author Erin Lambert explores song as a primary mode for the expression of belief among ordinary Europeans in the sixteenth century, for the embodiment of individual piety, and the creation of new communities of belief. Together, resurrection and song reveal how sixteenth-century Christians--from learned theologians to ordinary artisans, and Anabaptist martyrs to Reformed Christians facing exile--defined belief not merely as an assertion or affirmation but as a continuous, living practice. Thus these voices, raised in song, tell a story of the Reformation that reaches far beyond the transformation from one community of faith to many. With case studies drawn from each of the major confessions of the Reformation--Lutheran, Anabaptist, Reformed, and Catholic--Singing the Resurrection reveals sixteenth-century belief in its full complexity.
Book Synopsis Worship Matters (Foreword by Paul Baloche) by : Bob Kauflin
Download or read book Worship Matters (Foreword by Paul Baloche) written by Bob Kauflin and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-03-26 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nothing is more essential than knowing how to worship the God who created us. This book focuses readers on the essentials of God-honoring worship, combining biblical foundations with practical application in a way that works in the real world. The author, a pastor and noted songwriter, skillfully instructs pastors, musicians, and church leaders so that they can root their congregational worship in unchanging scriptural principles, not divisive cultural trends. Bob Kauflin covers a variety of topics such as the devastating effects of worshiping the wrong things, how to base our worship on God's self-revelation rather than our assumptions, the fuel of worship, the community of worship, and the ways that eternity's worship should affect our earthly worship. Appropriate for Christians from varied backgrounds and for various denominations, this book will bring a vital perspective to what readers think they understand about praising God.

Book Synopsis Devotional Refrains in Medieval Latin Song by : Mary Channen Caldwell
Download or read book Devotional Refrains in Medieval Latin Song written by Mary Channen Caldwell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout medieval Europe, male and female religious communities attached to churches, abbeys, and schools participated in devotional music making outside of the chanted liturgy. Newly collating over 400 songs from primary sources, this book reveals the role of Latin refrains and refrain songs in the musical lives of religious communities by employing novel interdisciplinary and analytical approaches to the study of medieval song. Through interpretive frameworks focused on time and temporality, performance, memory, inscription, and language, each chapter offers an original perspective on how refrains were created, transmitted, and performed. Arguing for the Latin refrain's significance as a marker of form and meaning, this book identifies it as a tool that communities used to negotiate their lived experiences of liturgical and calendrical time; to confirm their communal identity and belonging to song communities; and to navigate relationships between Latin and vernacular song and dance that emerge within their multilingual contexts.
