Book excerpt: The purpose of the researcher was to determine the effectiveness of the Responsible Classroom Management (RCM) school wide model and the impact of using RCM on the overall effectiveness of an elementary school. The researcher addressed the question: How did teachers and administrators use of the Responsible Classroom Management Plan impact the overall effectiveness of the school? The researcher analyzed the impact of using RCM on student behavior and achievement, teacher retention and morale, and parent perceptions of school discipline. Treatment of the study was the RCM model. The population was students, teachers and parents of the school from 2001-2004. The independent variable was the RCM model and the dependent variables were the number of office referrals, out-of-school suspensions and end-of-grade achievement scores (EOG) for students. Teacher retention for the three years was compared and survey data was analyzed for the perceptions of teachers and parents in regards to discipline. Office referrals and out-of-school suspensions decreased and teacher and parent perceptions remained favorable toward the school. Teacher retention and academic achievement improved during the study. Chi Square was used to analyze teacher and parental perceptions of school discipline. The researcher found the impact of using RCM on the school's overall effectiveness by using a modified case study/journal approach and concluded that the use of RCM had a direct impact on the school's overall effectiveness.
