Book Synopsis The Stokes and Navier–Stokes Equations in Exterior Domains by : David Wegmann
Download or read book The Stokes and Navier–Stokes Equations in Exterior Domains written by David Wegmann and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2019-02-27 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first part of this thesis we established a maximal regularity result to the Stokes equations in exterior domains with moving boundary. This leads to existence of solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations globally in time for small data. Secondly, we consider Leray's problem on the decay of weak solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations in an exterior domain with non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data. It is shown that the solution decays polynomially.

Book Synopsis A Student's Guide to the Navier-Stokes Equations by : Justin W. Garvin
Download or read book A Student's Guide to the Navier-Stokes Equations written by Justin W. Garvin and published by . This book was released on 2023-03-13 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Navier-Stokes equations describe the motion of fluids and are an invaluable addition to the toolbox of every physicist, applied mathematician, and engineer. The equations arise from applying Newton's laws of motion to a moving fluid and are considered, when used in combination with mass and energy conservation rules, to be the fundamental governing equations of fluid motion. They are relevant across many disciplines, from astrophysics and oceanic sciences to aerospace engineering and materials science. This Student's Guide provides a clear and focused presentation of the derivation, significance and applications of the Navier-Stokes equations, along with the associated continuity and energy equations. Designed as a useful supplementary resource for undergraduate and graduate students, each chapter concludes with a selection of exercises intended to reinforce and extend important concepts. Video podcasts demonstrating the solutions in full are provided online, along with written solutions and other additional resources.
Book Synopsis The Stokes Equations by : Werner Varnhorn
Download or read book The Stokes Equations written by Werner Varnhorn and published by De Gruyter Akademie Forschung. This book was released on 1994 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book consists of three parts. In the first part a theory of solvability for the stationary Stokes equations in exterior domains is developed. We prove existence of strong solutions in Sobolev spaces and use a localisation principle and the divergence equation to deduce further properties of the solution (uniqueness, asymptotics).

Book Synopsis Navier—Stokes Equations by : Roger Temam
Download or read book Navier—Stokes Equations written by Roger Temam and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navier-Stokes Equations: Theory and Numerical Analysis focuses on the processes, methodologies, principles, and approaches involved in Navier-Stokes equations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and mathematical analysis to which CFD is grounded. The publication first takes a look at steady-state Stokes equations and steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. Topics include bifurcation theory and non-uniqueness results, discrete inequalities and compactness theorems, existence and uniqueness theorems, discretization of Stokes equations, existence and uniqueness for the Stokes equations, and function spaces. The text then examines the evolution of Navier-Stokes equations, including linear case, compactness theorems, alternate proof of existence by semi-discretization, and discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations. The book ponders on the approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations by the projection and compressibility methods; properties of the curl operator and application to the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations; and implementation of non-conforming linear finite elements. The publication is a valuable reference for researchers interested in the theory and numerical analysis of Navier-Stokes equations.
Book Synopsis Numerical Solution of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations by : L. Quartapelle
Download or read book Numerical Solution of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations written by L. Quartapelle and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents different formulations of the equations governing incompressible viscous flows, in the form needed for developing numerical solution procedures. The conditions required to satisfy the no-slip boundary conditions in the various formulations are discussed in detail. Rather than focussing on a particular spatial discretization method, the text provides a unitary view of several methods currently in use for the numerical solution of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, using either finite differences, finite elements or spectral approximations. For each formulation, a complete statement of the mathematical problem is provided, comprising the various boundary, possibly integral, and initial conditions, suitable for any theoretical and/or computational development of the governing equations. The text is suitable for courses in fluid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics. It covers that part of the subject matter dealing with the equations for incompressible viscous flows and their determination by means of numerical methods. A substantial portion of the book contains new results and unpublished material.
Book Synopsis Optimization in Solving Elliptic Problems by : Eugene G. D'yakonov
Download or read book Optimization in Solving Elliptic Problems written by Eugene G. D'yakonov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization in Solving Elliptic Problems focuses on one of the most interesting and challenging problems of computational mathematics - the optimization of numerical algorithms for solving elliptic problems. It presents detailed discussions of how asymptotically optimal algorithms may be applied to elliptic problems to obtain numerical solutions meeting certain specified requirements. Beginning with an outline of the fundamental principles of numerical methods, this book describes how to construct special modifications of classical finite element methods such that for the arising grid systems, asymptotically optimal iterative methods can be applied. Optimization in Solving Elliptic Problems describes the construction of computational algorithms resulting in the required accuracy of a solution and having a pre-determined computational complexity. Construction of asymptotically optimal algorithms is demonstrated for multi-dimensional elliptic boundary value problems under general conditions. In addition, algorithms are developed for eigenvalue problems and Navier-Stokes problems. The development of these algorithms is based on detailed discussions of topics that include accuracy estimates of projective and difference methods, topologically equivalent grids and triangulations, general theorems on convergence of iterative methods, mixed finite element methods for Stokes-type problems, methods of solving fourth-order problems, and methods for solving classical elasticity problems. Furthermore, the text provides methods for managing basic iterative methods such as domain decomposition and multigrid methods. These methods, clearly developed and explained in the text, may be used to develop algorithms for solving applied elliptic problems. The mathematics necessary to understand the development of such algorithms is provided in the introductory material within the text, and common specifications of algorithms that have been developed for typical problems in mathema
Book Synopsis Navier-Stokes equations. On the existence and the search method for global solutions. by : Solomon I. Khmelnik
Download or read book Navier-Stokes equations. On the existence and the search method for global solutions. written by Solomon I. Khmelnik and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-01-03 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we formulate and prove the variational extremum principle for viscous incompressible and compressible fluid, from which principle follows that the Naviet-Stokes equations represent the extremum conditions of a certain functional. We describe the method of seeking solution for these equations, which consists in moving along the gradient to this functional extremum. We formulate the conditions of reaching this extremum, which are at the same time necessary and sufficient conditions of this functional global extremum existence.
