Book Synopsis Labour and Social Transformation in Central and Eastern Europe by : Violaine Delteil
Download or read book Labour and Social Transformation in Central and Eastern Europe written by Violaine Delteil and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over a quarter of a century after the fall of the Berlin Wall and 10 years after their accession to the European Union (EU), Central and Eastern Europe Countries (CEECs) still show marked differences with the rest of Europe in the fields of labour, work and industrial relations. This book presents a detailed and original analysis of labour and social transformations in the CEECs. By examining a wide range of countries in Central Europe, Labour and Social Transformation in Central and Eastern Europe offers a comprehensive and contrasting view of labour developments in Central and Eastern Europe. Chapters explore three related issues. The first deals with the understanding of the complex process of Europeanization applied in the sphere of labour, employment and industrial relations. The second issue refers to the attempt to link the Europeanization approach with an analysis mobilizing the theoretical concept of "dependent capitalism(s)". The third issue refers to the cumulative trends of labour weakening and labour awakening that has emerged, in particular in the aftermath of the crisis beginning in 2007-2008. This book will be of interest to academics, policy makers and stakeholders at European and national level in the EU member states.

Book Synopsis The Predistribution Agenda by : Patrick Diamond
Download or read book The Predistribution Agenda written by Patrick Diamond and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of predistribution is increasingly setting the agenda in progressive politics. But what does it mean? The predistributive agenda is concerned with how states can alter the underlying distribution of market outcomes so they no longer rely solely on post hoc redistribution to achieve economic efficiency and social justice. It therefore offers an effective means of tackling economic and social inequality alongside traditional welfare policies, emphasising employability, human capital, and skills, as well as structuring markets to promote greater equity. This book examines the key debates surrounding the emergence and development of predistributive thought with contributions from leading international scholars and policy-makers.

Book Synopsis Young People in the Labour Market by : Andy Furlong
Download or read book Young People in the Labour Market written by Andy Furlong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Levels of suffering among young people have always been much higher than governments suggest. Indeed, policies aimed at young workers have often been framed in ways that help secure conformity to a new employment landscape in which traditional securities have been progressively removed. Increasingly punitive welfare regimes have resulted in new hardships, especially among young women and those living in depressed labour markets. Framed by the ideas of Norbert Elias, Young People in the Labour Market challenges the idea that changing economic landscapes have given birth to a ‘Precariat’ and argues that labour insecurity is more deep-rooted and complex than others have suggested. Focusing on young people and the ways in which their working lives have changed between the 1980s recession and the Great Recession of 2008/2009 and its immediate aftermath, the book begins by drawing attention to trends already emerging in the preceding two decades. Drawing on data originally collected during the 1980s recession and comparing it to contemporary data drawn from the UK Household Longitudinal Study, the book explores the ways in which young people have adjusted to the changes, arguing that life satisfaction and optimism are linked to labour market conditions. A timely volume, this book will be of interest to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as postdoctoral researchers who are interested in fields such as Sociology, Social Policy, Management and Youth Studies.
Book Synopsis Reshaping the Labour Market by : Sue Richardson
Download or read book Reshaping the Labour Market written by Sue Richardson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-12-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The outcomes of the labour market were the major economic and social problems of OECD countries. Inflation virtually disappeared, material standards of living on average were high, but 35 million people remained unemployed, inequality of earnings was rising and the establishment of regular employment was increasingly difficult for young people. In this 2000 book, a team of leading economists take Australia as a case study in which to examine whether regulation of the labour market assists or detracts from the achievement of desirable labour market outcomes. Attention is focused especially on the provision of adequate incomes and jobs for low-skilled workers, because this is the area in which labour markets around the world, including Australia, have failed most seriously in the past.
