Book Synopsis Preliminary Report on a Study of Separated Flows in Supersonic and Subsonic Streams by : Dean R. Chapman
Download or read book Preliminary Report on a Study of Separated Flows in Supersonic and Subsonic Streams written by Dean R. Chapman and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some results are described of fundamental research conducted on various flow separation phenomena in two-dimensional streams. Experimental and theoretical results are described for the pressure rise across a reattachment region, and for the Reynolds number dependence of the pressure rise to a separation point. Observations are made throughout of the location of transition relative to reattachment and to separation, since this relative location turned out to be the dominant variable investigated.

Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

Book Synopsis Separation and Reattachment of Supersonic Turbulent Boundary Layer Behind Down Stream Facing Steps and Over Cavities by : G. J. Thomke

This book was released on 1964 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface pressure measurements were obtained for the flow regimes created when a turbulent boundary layer in supersonic flow separates over the classical downstream-facing step and over a cavity. The experiments were conducted in the Mach number range 2.0 to 4.0 on a model having a ducted, one-foot diameter, axisymmetric body. The model provided step heights of 0.250, 1.020, and 1.675 inches, cavity lengths of 0.837 and 1.675 inches, and a cavity depth of 1.675 inches. The recompression shoulder of the cavity had either a square or a rounded shape. In general, the pressure rise at reattachment is found to be in good agreement with Korst's theory. The shape and scale of the reattachment pressure distribution are influenced considerably by Mach number. Reattachment occurs at a point where the pressure rise is about 50% complete. A point of flow reversal is found to be located upstream of the reattachment point. (Author).
Book Synopsis Viscous Flow Interaction Studies by : Robert H. Korkegi
Download or read book Viscous Flow Interaction Studies written by Robert H. Korkegi and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research was designed to gain understanding of the flow of air at high speeds over the components of lifting supersonic and hypersonic vehicles--wings, flaps, fins, inlets--and their interactions with respect to heating, surface friction, pressure, and aerodynamic forces. The objective was to help predict (a) flows on complex aerospace vehicle configurations in high-speed flight and (b) the location of areas of high heating. The research covers the areas of laminar and turbulent boundary layers, boundary layer transition, boundary layer separation, base flows and wakes, low density flows, three-dimensional interactions, viscous flow problems, and some flow measurement techniques.

Book Synopsis Two-dimensional Turbulent Boundary Layer Separation on a Flat Plate with Ramp at Freestream Mach Numbers of 3.7 and 6.3 in Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow by : V. Zakkay
Download or read book Two-dimensional Turbulent Boundary Layer Separation on a Flat Plate with Ramp at Freestream Mach Numbers of 3.7 and 6.3 in Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow written by V. Zakkay and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This investigation describes surface pressure distribution, heat transfer, and turbulent flow separation and reattachment on a flat plate with variable ramp angle at Mach numbers averaging 3.66 and 6.30. The freestream Reynold's number varied from 3.33 to 8.34 million per foot for the former case and from 5.243 million to 14.6 million per foot for the latter case. Ramp angle was varied from 0 to 35 degrees for these experiments. Stagnation temperatures averaged 849 degrees Rankine, with wall temperature assumed constant at 535 degrees Rankine for all tests. The knowledge of effective wedge angles and freestream conditions makes it possible to determine shocks so that conditions can be evaluated at all positions on the model.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separated flows and jets are closely linked in a variety of applications. They are of great importance in various fields of fluid mechanics including vehicle efficiency, technical branches concerned with gas/liquid flows, atmospheric effects on various constructions, etc. Knowledge of the physics of separated flows and jets and the development of reliable control techniques are prerequisite for future progress in the field. These aspects were in focus during the IUTAM-Symposium which was held in Novosibirsk, 9-13 July, 1990. This volume contains a selection of papers presenting recent results of theoretical and numerical studies as well as experimental work on separated flows and jets. The topics include sub- and supersonic, laminar and turbulent separation as well as organized structures in separated flows and jets. The reader will find here the state of the art and major trends for research in this field of aero-hydrodynamics.

Download or read book Supersonic Separated Flows Over Wedges and Flares with Emphasis on a Method of Detecting Transition written by Jean J. Ginoux and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation is a first step to the study of the effect of cross flow in laminar separation at supersonic speeds. It is related to the selection of a final axi-symmetric model. Several problems were examined. First, the effect of streamwise vortices that develop systematically in laminar reattaching flows, triggered by small irregularities in the leading edge thickness. Second, the choice of the diameter of the model such that the flow resembles that of an equivalent planar body, third the programming of Lees-Reeves theory on a 1130 IBM computer to perform a parametric study and finally the development of a new accurate technique or criteria to ascertain that fully laminar shock wave boundary layer interactions can be obtained.
