Book excerpt: Analytical continuation of gravity field in the downward direction has been of interest in geophysical exploration for some time. Only recent developments in the instrumentation and new theoretical approaches in solving the boundary-value problem have made this problem important in geodesy. For example, the results of airborne gravity measurements should be brought to the surface of the Earth or on sea level, a solution of Molodensky's problem requires downward continuation of gravity field from the Earth's surface to sea level. The emphasis in the study has been to find theoretical and practical solutions for the downward continuation problem in connection with airborne gravity measurements. (Author).

This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers extensive information on the operation of gravimeters, including airborne, marine and terrestrial ones, and on the associated data processing methods such as optimal and adaptive filtering, smoothing, structural and parametric identification. Further, it describes specific features relating to the study of the gravitational field in remote areas of the Earth, with the necessary modifications of equipment and software for all-latitude applications. Findings from gravity studies in such remote areas are also presented. Advanced methods for studying the gravitational field, including those for simultaneous determination of gravity anomalies and deflection of the vertical are described and analyzed in detail. Gravity gradiometers and cold atom gravimeters are also covered. Last but not least, the book deals with the development of Earth’s gravity field models and their various applications, including map-aided navigation, with a special attention to model accuracy estimation. Gathering research findings and best practice recommendations relating to Earth’s gravity field measurements, collected by a team of researchers and professionals, the book offers a unique guide for engineers, scientists and graduate students dealing with terrestrial, marine and airborne gravimetry. It will also help other specialists involved in developing and using navigation systems in practice, including designers of gravimetric equipment and navigators.

This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Czech edition was published four years ago, the authors have revised the original text tobring it up to date. During these four years, thanks to satellite altimetry the accuracy of the global descrip tion of the gravity field (model GEM-T2), of the fundamental astro geodetic constants, of the principal moments of inertia of the Earth and, in particular, of their differences, of the precession constant, and of a number of other dynamical parameters of the Earth have been improved. The authors have included most of these improvements in the revised English edition. They have, of course, also made factual, formal and other corrections and have modified some of the figures. Additions to the index and references have also been made. Praha, Czech Republic M. BuRSA and K. Book Synopsis The Gravity Field of the Earth by : Michele Caputo
Download or read book The Gravity Field of the Earth written by Michele Caputo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Geophysics Series, Volume 10: The Gravity Field of the Earth: From Classical and Modern Methods explores the theory of the gravity field of the earth based on both classical and modern methods. Classical method involves observations of gravity taken over the earth's surface, while the modern method uses observations of variation of orbital elements of artificial satellites caused by the gravity field of the earth. This book is organized into two parts encompassing 12 chapters. Part I describes the solution of physical problems that are treated as Dirichlet problems or solved by means of integral equations. This part also deals with the determination of the geoid form from ground gravity measurements using the Stokes formula. The method of obtaining the Stokes formula by means of an integral equation is also outlined. Part II contains modern mathematical techniques developed to utilize the observations of artificial satellites for geodetic purposes. This book could be used as a textbook for students in the fields of geodesy, geophysics, or astronomy.

Book Synopsis Gravity, Geoid and Geodynamics 2000 by : Michael G. Sideris
Download or read book Gravity, Geoid and Geodynamics 2000 written by Michael G. Sideris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This symposium continued the tradition of mid-term meetings held between the joint symposia of International Geoid and Gravity Commissions. This time, geodynamics was chosen as the third topic to accompany the traditional topics of gravity and geoid. The symposium thus aimed at bringing together geodesists and geophysicists working in the general areas of gravity, geoid and geodynamics. Besides covering the traditional research areas, special attention was paid to the use of geodetic methods for geodynamics studies, dedicated satellite missions, airborne surveys, geodesy and geodynamics of arctic regions, and the integration of geodetic and geophysical information.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In July 1995 the XXI General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics was held in Boulder, Colorado. At this meeting the International Association of Geodesy (lAG) organized a number of symposia to discuss scientific developments and future directions in a number of areas. One of these symposia was G3, Global Gravity Field and Its Temporal Variations. This symposium consisted of four invited and 36 contributed papers. The contributed papers were given as oral or poster presentations. This proceedings volume represents the written contributions of the four invited papers (appearing as the first four papers in the volume) and 19 additional papers. The authors were asked to limit the length of their paper to approximately ten pages, which, in some cases, did limit what an author wanted to say. The papers in this volume have been placed in the same order as they were presented at the ruGG meeting. A key theme of the symposium is given in the paper by Nerem, Klosko, and Pavlis where they discuss applications of gravity field information in geodesy and oceanography. The significant achievements in determining the gravity field in the ocean areas from satellite altimeter data is discussed by Sandwell, Yale, McAdoo, and Smith. A review of time changes of the Earth's gravity field from terrestrial measurements is given by Lambert et aI. , and from satellite perturbation techniques by Eanes and Bettadpur. A description of new geopotential models is given in the paper by Tapley et al.
Book Synopsis Gravity, Geoid and Space Missions by : Christopher Jekeli
Download or read book Gravity, Geoid and Space Missions written by Christopher Jekeli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-28 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lAG International Symposium on Gravity, Geoid, and Space Missions 2004 (GGSM2004) was lield in the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal, from 30 August to 3 September 2004. This symposium encompassed the themes of Commission 2 (Gravity Field) of the newly structured lAG, as well as interdisciplinary topics related to geoid and gravity modeling, with special attention given to the current and planned gravi- dedicated satellite missions. The symposium also followed in the tradition of mid-term meetings that were held between the quadrennial joint meetings of the International Geoid and Gravity Commissions. The previous mid-term meetings were the International Symposia on Gravity, Geoid, and Marine Geodesy (Tokyo, 1996), and Gravity, Geoid, and Geodynamics (Banff, 2000). GGSM2004 aimed to bring together scientists from different areas in the geosciences, working with gravity and geoid related problems, both from the theoretical and practical points of view. Topics of interest included the integration of heterogeneous data and contributions from satellite and airborne techniques to the study of the spatial and temporal variations of the gravity field. In addition to the special focus on the CHAMP, GRACE, and GOCE satellite missions, attention was also directed toward projects addressing topographic and ice field mapping using SAR, LIDAR, and laser altimetry, as well as missions and studies related to planetary geodesy.
