Book excerpt: This book presents a rich compilation of real-world cases on digitalization, aiming to share first-hand insights from renowned organizations and to make digitalization tangible. With all economic and societal sectors being challenged by emerging technologies, the digital economy is highly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. It confronts established organizations with substantial challenges and opportunities. Against this backdrop, this book reports on best practices and lessons learned from organizations that succeeded in tackling the challenges and seizing the opportunities of the digital economy. It illustrates how twenty organizations leveraged their capabilities to create disruptive innovation, to develop digital business models, and to digitally transform themselves. These cases stem from various industries (e.g. automotive, insurance, consulting, and public services) and countries, covering the many facets that digitalization may have. As all case descriptions follow a unified template, they are easily accessible for readers and provide insightful examples for practitioners as well as interesting cases for researchers, teachers, and students. Almost every organization is trying to figure out how best to respond to the opportunities and threats posed by digitalization. This book provides valuable lessons from those organizations that have already begun their digital transformation journey. Michael D. Myers, Professor of Information Systems, University of Auckland Digitalization Cases provides firsthand insights into the efforts of renowned companies. The presented actions, results, and lessons learned are a great inspiration for managers, students, and academics. This book gives real pointers on the how and where to start. Anna Kopp, Head of IT Germany, Microsoft The cases compiled in the second volume of Digitalization Cases show how disruption can actively be managed. Further, long-term insights from extended success stories of the first edition highlight that courage to change pays off well. This book represents a motivation for organizations to drive their digital transformation journeys actively. Markus Richter, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community and Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology, Germany

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a sequel and extension to the book “Business Process Management Cases", published in its first edition by Springer in 2018. It adds 22 new cases for practitioners and educators to showcase and study Business Process Management (BPM). The BPM cases collection is dedicated to providing a contemporary and comprehensive, industry-agnostic insight into the realities of BPM. In particular it focuses on the lessons that only authentic cases can provide. The experiences documented cover both, the positive impact of deploying BPM as well as the lessons learnt from failed attempts. Each case takes a holistic approach and by doing so, each chapter recognizes that BPM in practice is a multidimensional endeavor covering strategy to operations, systems and infrastructure, governance and culture, models and running processes. This volume also introduces a new device to plan and scope BPM initiatives: the BPM Billboard. The Billboard helps professionals to link BPM projects to the corporate strategy and to build the organizational capabilities to reach such strategic directive. Digital technologies do not just facilitate innovative process designs, but enable entire new strategic options. This book provides a contemporary and comprehensive overview of how to create process-enabled strategies in an opportunity-rich environment. Martin Petry, Hilti CIO This is the first book to present the BPM Billboard – A new management tool to plan and scope BPM initiatives. The Billboard together with the insightful real-world cases offers valuable guidance towards BPM success from a holistic perspective. Gero Decker, Signavio CEO

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Common Pleas Reporter, Vol. 2: Containing Reports of Cases Decided in the County Courts and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania It was evidently in the mind of the legislature that the ordinary tax levy for general revenue would not provide for the extraordinary powers granted in the clauses enumerated from two to thirty two and they might be a dead letter, because of the waht of any provision for the money to pay for them. They could have provided for it by enlarging the power to tax for general revenue, but this would have given too much power to councils to increase a continuing burden. They therefore left the raising of this money to be provided for by loans. Ample power is given to create loans up to two per centum or by a vote of the people to a higher point. This power is found in clauses 41 and 42 and section 11 of the Act of Assembly. Itis a power well guarded and cannot be exercised without thecitizens of the city being aware of it. It is not the increase of a debt by the imperceptible and unconscious addition of items invited through an unlimited power to levy taxes, which has been the ruin of many municipal ities. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Reports of Cases Adjudged and Determined in the Court of Chancery, of the State of Delaware, Vol. 2 The present volume of Delaware Chancery Reports contains cases selected from the manuscript notes of the late Chancellors, Johns, Jr. And Harrington, from the year 1833 to 1865. They seem few in number, to be drawn from so long a period. All cases are reported in which the point decided was of any importance, and where sufli cient material could be found to make an intelligible te port. Without doubt, had there been provision from the beginning for publishing our Chancery decisions many valuable cases would have been preserved which are now lost.
