Book excerpt: Transport in the European Community is undergoing a new revolution. The completion of the Channel Tunnel and a network of high-speed railways, the expansion of the road system, and the improvement of urban transport systems are all set to make a profound impact. The Community is actively involved in supporting improvements both in northern and southern Europe, in projects which represent a major investment of interest both to private-sector developers and to public administrators. This volume explains the involvement of the EC institutions in these matters, and how the Community's transport policy might develop in the future. Key EC policy documents are summarised, and full details of all the relevant official material is given. This comprehensive and up-to-date guide will be invaluable to all those concerned with the future of transport, either as consumers or as suppliers of systems and infrastructure.

Book excerpt: The purpose of the international scan was to investigate the issues, constraints, opportunities, and challenges faced by the European Union (EU) in developing a policy of open boundaries and what strategies it uses to implement the policy. The panel met with government representatives, terminal operators, logistics providers, and shippers to gain a broad understanding of how the EU has attempted to develop a common market, and how the private sector has responded. The group met with various industry and government representatives from the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and with representatives of the European Commission in Brussels.

Book Synopsis Project and Policy Evaluation in Transport by : Liana Giorgi
Download or read book Project and Policy Evaluation in Transport written by Liana Giorgi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: There is a multitude of assessment methods available for analyzing and reporting on the impacts of policies, all with different underlying assumptions and a wide range of criteria. Since the 1950s, much research has gone into creating guidelines for policy analysis, yet only a small percentage of evaluation has been carried out on transport policy - and none by political scientists or social policy specialists. The editors of this volume recognize that European integration has seen a drive to bring policy evaluation on to the transport agenda and has increased demands for ’strategic assessments’. It has become apparent that to gain a fuller understanding of the success of a transport programme, a much more complex combination of analytical methods must be used, and a set of guidelines specifically for the field of transport must be developed. This book achieves this by bringing together a multidisciplinary team of analysts from throughout the EU to discuss in a much broader way the various types of assessment methods and how they can best be used to evaluate transport programmes and systems, both individually and in combination.
