Download or read book Insurance Contract Law written by and published by Stationery Office/Tso. This book was released on 2014-07-21 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report follows on from the Law Commission's first report in this area: Consumer Insurance Law: Pre-contract Disclosure and Misrepresentation, which resulted in the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012 ("CIDRA"). It recommends reform of the law in four areas of insurance law: the duty of disclosure in business and other non-consumer insurance; the law of insurance warranties; insurer's remedies for fraudulent claims; and late payment of insurance claims. These reforms would be a default scheme for business insurance, leaving the parties free to agree alternative arrangements in their contracts provided they do so transparently. The majority of the Law Commissions' recommendations were accepted by the Government. The Insurance Bill was introduced in the House of Lords on 17 July 2014.

Book excerpt: THE DEFINITIVE BIOGRAPHY OF GEORGE VI, THE HERO OF THE KING'S SPEECH George VI reigned through taxing times. Acceding to the throne upon his brother's abdication, he was immediately confronted with the turmoil in European politics leading up to the Second World War, followed by a period of austerity, social transformation. George was unprepared for kingship, suffering from a stammer which could make public occasions very painful for him. Moreover he had grown up in the shadow of his brother, a man who had been idolized as no royal prince has been, before or since. However, as Sarah Bradford shows in this sympathetic biography, although George was not born to be king, he died a great one. 'A triumph . . . Sarah Bradford looks set to inherit Lady Longford's mantle as royal biographer supreme' Mail on Sunday 'Lucid, convincing and admirably fair . . . George VI has been fortunate in his biographer' Philip Ziegler 'Vivid, thorough and enjoyable' Independent

Download or read book The Five Percent written by Peter Coleman and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One in every twenty difficult conflicts ends up grinding to a halt. That's fully 5 percent of not just the diplomatic and political clashes we read about in the newspaper, but disputations and arguments from our everyday lives as well. Once we get pulled into these self-perpetuating conflicts it is nearly impossible to escape. The 5 percent rule us. So what can we do when we find ourselves ensnared? According to Dr. Peter T. Coleman, the solution is in seeing our conflict anew. Applying lessons from complexity theory to examples from both American domestic politics and international diplomacy -- from abortion debates to the enmity between Israelis and Palestinians -- Coleman provides innovative new strategies for dealing with intractable disputes. A timely, paradigm-shifting look at conflict, The Five Percent is an invaluable guide to preventing even the most fractious negotiations from foundering.

Book Synopsis Reflexive Mediation by : Vibeke Vindeløv
Download or read book Reflexive Mediation written by Vibeke Vindeløv and published by Djoef Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vibeke Vindelv believes it is time for mediators to look further than merely discussing skills, techniques and models, and to take up the personal challenge and responsibility of being conscious of the deeper values and beliefs that drive us, and then constantly, during and after each mediation, to evaluate what we did and how we did it. The reflexive model thereby takes a longer view and has a sustainable perspective. What distinguishes this book from most other books on mediation is the way it links to together the now classical elements of the mediation process with the explicit values and attitudes of the mediator, and regardless of whether these concern technical matters, philosophical attitudes or values, and regardless of the type of conflict which is the subject of mediation or who the parties to the mediation are, these must guide and motivate the mediator.
