Book excerpt: This book is about Ettore Bugatti's extraordinary mind devoted to a multitude of inventions, designs, modifications, innovations, ideas, hobbies and follies. The object of this publication is an attempt to try and cover a very diverse and wide volume of work in the design field and includes Cars, Railway, Marine, Aircraft and Machine Tools. Contents include: The Bugatti Heritage 1676-2008; List of inventions, designs, ideas and follies in alphabetical order; Molsheim Electrics; Horses and Carriages; Machine Tool Patents; Aeronautics; Railways; Marine; Automotive. Appendices: Biography of Giovanni Segantini; Details of the Bugatti Aircraft Assoc.; Details of the Bugatti Trust; Details of the Bugatti Owners Club. It will be seen that some of the information, photographs and technical drawings are from earlier times and are sometimes not of the reproductive quality we would have liked - many of them taken from newspapers and magazines initially printed on newsprint quality paper and even from carbon copies or photocopies. It is the information and photographs that we believe to be of interest which we feel is reason enough for inclusion in this book. A total of 360 fully illustrated pages.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poignant biographical novel about a WWI-era sculptor: “It’s difficult not to love the eccentric, fragile Rembrandt Bugatti and suffer alongside him” (The New York Times Book Review). The Animal Gazer is a hypnotic novel inspired by the strange and fascinating life of sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti, brother of the fabled automaker. With World War I closing in and the Belle Époque teetering to a end, Bugatti leaves his native Milan for Paris, where he encounters Rodin and casts his bronzes at the same foundry used by the French master. In Paris and then Antwerp, he obsessively observes and sculpts the baboons, giraffes, and panthers in the municipal zoos, finding empathy with their plight and identifying with their life in captivity. But as the Germans drop bombs over the Belgian city, the zoo authorities are forced to make a heart-wrenching decision about the fate of the caged animals, and Bugatti is stricken with grief from which he’ll never recover. Rembrandt Bugatti’s work is displayed in major museums around the world, and in this prize-winning novel, “an irresistible, elegantly conceived example of biographical fiction,” Edgardo Franzosini recreates the young artist’s life with lyricism, passion, and sensitivity (Library Journal). “The Animal Gazer takes you on a glorious journey into the heart of cosmopolitan Paris as you have never known it before. Through the life of Rembrandt Bugatti, a sculptor with the panache of his name, this lively, fast-paced narrative evokes an exceptional epoch in all its color and eccentric charm.” ―Nicholas Fox Weber, author of Le Corbusier: A Life

Book excerpt: The British have had an affair with Bugatti for decades and perhaps Prescott Hill-Climb in Gloucestershire is the place where that relationship has reached its highlights across the decades. This collection of photographic images captures the brilliance of Bugatti design amid Bugatti blue at Prescott's wonderful natural amphitheatre in the Cotswolds to which visitors, Bugatti owners, enthusiasts and addicts have travelled from all over the world to gather and to race up the hill. The author has spent years around old cars, often visiting Prescott and its home to the Bugatti Owners Club which itself celebrates the 80th anniversary of its base at Prescott in 2018 and, the Clubs own 90th anniversary in 2019.In this collection of over 200 photographs, much of the masterworks of Molsheim are captured in action and at rest, at the altar of British Bugatti enthusiasm. Herein are wonderful moments and memories of old Bugatti cars, their owners and drivers, and other vintage and classic cars in VS-CC action at this revered location. This new collection of stunning images, allied to a concise narrative (with assistance from Bugatti experts), should provide the classic car enthusiast with something new to accompany their own memories amid a record of Prescott and the Bugatti Owners Club events and Veteran Sports-Car Club days.

Book excerpt: Rembrandt Bugatti (18841916) was one of the most remarkable and artistically independent sculptors of the first decade of the 20th century. In his short life, before committing suicide at the age of 31, he produced more than 300 works, an oeuvre which is unparalleled for descriptive intensity and diversity of form and subject. Although he is represented in many large museums around the world, in particular in France, Great Britain and the USA, Rembrandt Bugatti is less well known to the German public. This exhibition at the Alte Nationalgalerie will be the first solo show of his work in Germany, offering the opportunity for a spectacular rediscovery of this artist who died young and has remained unnoticed in most surveys published on the art of around 1900. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Poetic and magical ... Astur's language is meticulous and vivid."—Asymptote A literary crime novel about family conflict in the Spanish countryside: breathtaking, tragic, sensuous and magical. Marcelino lives alone on his parents’ farm, set deep in the beautiful but impoverished countryside of northern Spain. It’s the place where he grew up, the place where he doted on his baby brother, the place where he protected his mother from their father’s drunken rages. But when Marcelino’s brother tricks him out of his house and land, a moment of anger sparks a chain of events that can’t be reversed. Marcelino flees to the wild peaks of rural Asturias, becoming a cult hero as he evades the authorities. Into this, author Manuel Astur interweaves family tales and fables about the sun and the moon, about death and love, and offers glimpses into the lives of other villagers and the history of their community. Astur’s poetic language and seamless blend of lyricism with the grotesque renders this book a treasure for the reader. Of Saints and Miracles is a sensuous portrayal of an outcast’s struggle to survive in a chaotic world of both tragedy and magical splendor.
