Kean and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governor Kean tells his audience that he endorses the N.A.A.C.P.'s then recent vote to put pression on the film industry to include more minorities among its ranks. He also point out how the 'Black independent film movement' is a corrective measure to the apparent exclusion of minorities in the film industry. Kean mentions the "Bill Cosby Show" and "The Soldier's Story," starring the talented Black actor, Howard Rollins. Clem Price and Sam Miller are also referred to by name. Since its inception in 1974, the Newark Black Film Festival (NBFF) has become known among its peers as the longest running black film festival in the United States. Throughout the years, it has continued to provide a progressive public forum for hundreds of emerging writers, directors, producers, performers and film buffs who enjoy African American and African Diaspora cinema. Screening in the summer months, the films that are shown reflect the full diversity of the black experience in America, both past and present. Each film selection encompasses a wide range of cinematic forms and formulas, from documentary to the avant-garde, for youth and adults.

Book excerpt: Introduced by Mr. Earl Harris, Governor Kean speaks about the role that church leaders play in setting the political and moral agenda in the United States. He tells his audience that Black clergymen have led the way in promoting equality, opportunity and justice in New Jersey since the late 19th century. Governor Kean also mentions an affirmative action sensitivity plan for his administration and the creation of the Office of Minority Business Enterprise, the Governor's Council on Minority Business Development and the Corporation for Business Assistance. He further states that New Jersey's Urban Development Corporation was then the only one of its kind in the country. He believes that "economic growth is the flip side to social justice." Education, economic opportunity and political power translate into an equation which for Governor Kean is a key to realizing the potential of the Black community in New Jersey over the succeeding twenty years.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A joint project between the Black Churchmen of Greater Newark and the Newark Chamber of Commerce the "Employment Program" was dubbed " ... one of the most constructive, needed and hopeful program" that Governor Kean had ever seen. Kean goes to commend the joint work of the church and the business community, as strengthening each other and committed to find people employment and thereby committed to human dignity. He states that Len Coleman initiated the program. The Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce was organized in October of 1924, and since that time had evolved into a true community organization. The main purpose of this organization has been to advance the civic, commercial, industrial and agricultural interest of the Village of Newark and the surrounding areas and to stimulate public sentiments for the protection of the general welfare and prosperity of the Village of Newark and the Town of Arcadia, as well as the County of Wayne. The current mission for the Newark Chamber of Commerce (http://newarknychamber.org/about-us) is "The purpose of the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce is to do all the things necessary through service to encourage and support healthy growth of business and industry in the Newark Community." It is unconfirmed that the "Black Churchmen" group mentioned in this document is indeed The National Committee of Negro Churchmen (NCNC) which was formally organized in Dallas, Texas in November of 1967. According to a Time magazine article ("Churches: Black Power in the Pulpit, "17 Nov 1967), the committee was "composed of 300 members from twelve Protestant denominations"and its purpose was "to arouse Negro churches to a keener awareness of congregations and other sources to finance housing and small businesses in urban ghettos [and] to help Negroes in predominantly white churches achieve a greater voice in policy." The Committee is considered an early example of Black Liberation Theology.
