Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the days and times that we live in grow more and more evil, we, who profess to be Christians or Christ-like, can learn from God's Word how to be a stone thrower of the God-kind like David and not a stone thrower like the teachers of the law and the religious Pharisees who tried to trap Jesus into saying something incriminating so that they could bring charges against him. David was a stone thrower of the God-kind, and in the eyes of man, he looked insignificant but his heart having been tested and tried was found to be undivided and loyal and he was willing and obedient to fight for God's righteous cause, defeating the enemy of God. "For the eyes of the LORD run back and forth throughout the whole earth (eretz,) to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him" (2 Chronicles 16:9 HNV). God is looking for these stone throwers of a God-kind who he can show himself strong in and through in these last days. They are God-seekers, God-lovers, who are humble, willing, loyal, faithful, and courageous. They are obediently led by his Spirit to fulfill God's plan, always making their boast in the Lord and giving all the glory to God. Through this book, you will see the process that David went through in preparing him to fight for God's righteous cause. I strongly believe that as you read this book, you will receive understanding that everything in life that you have been through was not for your demise and how God can turn it all around and use it for his good to prepare you for his great exploits in these last days. My prayer for you is that your heart will be stirred to believe that perhaps "you-yes, you-are a stone thrower of the God-kind in the making."

To encourage the church to stop throwing stones at their wounded. WARNING This book exposes the life of a thirty-year sex addict. Portions of this are not suitable for young audiences. Book Synopsis The Foundation of Augustinian-Calvinism by : Ken Wilson
Download or read book The Foundation of Augustinian-Calvinism written by Ken Wilson and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-08-05 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wilson's book is ground-breaking and thought-provoking, and indispensable for every serious student of hugely influential core aspects of Augustine's thought." -- Professor Karla Pollman, University of Bristol on Dr. Ken Wilson's "Augustine's Conversion". This book summarizes Dr. Wilson's "ground-breaking" doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford which was published by Mohr Siebeck in 2018 as "Augustine's Conversion from Traditional Free Choice to 'Non-free Free Will': A Comprehensive Methodology". With a new audience in mind, Dr. Wilson presents his extensive research on free will in ancient and early Christian thought in a shorter and more accessible format with translations of the ancient and modern foreign languages in plain English. Dr. Wilson first provides readers with essential background information on free will in the ancient philosophies and religions of Stoicism, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, and Manichaeism. He then guides his readers through the writings of the earliest Christian authors who wrote on free will. Finally, Dr. Wilson explores a curious split between St. Augustine's early and later writings and shows how the ideas presented in Augustine's later writings became the foundation for modern Calvinist (Reformed) theology, also known as Augustinian-Calvinism.

Book excerpt: Something is drawing seventeen-year-old Jesse Bryce toward the community of Pagans who live in "the village," just outside his rural Oklahoma town. Maybe it's that he has a crush on Griffin Holyoke, a tall, dark-haired boy with a tree tattooed all up his back. Or maybe it's that the Pagans accept Jesse for who he is, unlike his family--or his church, where he hears that being gay is a sin. After a man from the village is murdered while trying to prevent an assault on a girl from the town, Jesse's confusion at the town's unsympathetic reaction inspires him to set a mission for himself: to build a bridge of acceptance between the town and the village. As Jesse defies his parents and continues to visit the village, he witnesses mysterious rituals that haunt him with their beauty and intensity. And he falls in love with one enigmatic, mercurial Pagan who opens his eyes to a whole new world. This first-person story explores what can happen when we make conclusions about others based on too little information, or on the wrong information. Whether we're misunderstanding each others' religions or each others' sexual orientation, everyone benefits from learning the truth. And everyone benefits from forgiveness.
Book Synopsis Drop the Stones by : Carlos A. Rodríguez
Download or read book Drop the Stones written by Carlos A. Rodríguez and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a woman caught in the act of adultery was thrown down at Jesus’ feet, the bloodthirsty crowd filled their hands with rocks and demanded she be put to death. That confrontation still reverberates in our lives today. Surely we can relate with the shame of the woman and her exposed sin. Unfortunately, we can also relate with the hypocritical crowd, reveling in the rejection of “the other.” But can we fully relate with Christ, the God who intervened to save her? For those who’ve become wary of tired and sometimes even offensive Christian dogmatism, Carlos Rodríguez may be the spark that ignites the flames of faith in the true Jesus. He tells it like it is, with a desire to motivate those who feel ready to engage the world around them, not through political or religious agendas, but through grace and love. Drop the Stones invites followers of Jesus to drop their religious rocks, and, with open hands, engage in the rewarding lifestyle of a Jesus-styled love.

Book Synopsis Religious Violence in the Ancient World by : Jitse H. F. Dijkstra
Download or read book Religious Violence in the Ancient World written by Jitse H. F. Dijkstra and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much like our world today, Late Antiquity (fourth-seventh centuries CE) is often seen as a period rife with religious violence, not least because the literary sources are full of stories of Christians attacking temples, statues and 'pagans'. However, using insights from Religious Studies, recent studies have demonstrated that the Late Antique sources disguise a much more intricate reality. The present volume builds on this recent cutting-edge scholarship on religious violence in Late Antiquity in order to come to more nuanced judgments about the nature of the violence. At the same time, the focus on Late Antiquity has taken away from the fact that the phenomenon was no less prevalent in the earlier Graeco-Roman world. This book is therefore the first to bring together scholars with expertise ranging from classical Athens to Late Antiquity to examine the phenomenon in all its complexity and diversity throughout Antiquity.

Book Synopsis Stories in Stone by : David B. Williams
Download or read book Stories in Stone written by David B. Williams and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2019-08-19 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people do not think to observe geology from the sidewalks of a major city, but all David B. Williams has to do is look at building stone in any urban center to find a range of rocks equal to any assembled by plate tectonics. In Stories in Stone, he takes you on explorations to find 3.5-billion-year-old rock that looks like swirled pink-and-black taffy, a gas station made of petrified wood, and a Florida fort that has withstood three hundred years of attacks and hurricanes, despite being made of a stone that has the consistency of a granola bar. Williams also weaves in the cultural history of stone, explaining why a white fossil-rich limestone from Indiana became the only building stone used in all fifty states; how in 1825, the construction of the Bunker Hill Monument led to America’s first commercial railroad; and why when the same kind of marble used by Michelangelo clad a Chicago skyscraper it warped so much after nineteen years that all 44,000 panels of it had to be replaced. This love letter to building stone brings to life the geology you can see in the structures of every city.
