Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the backdrop of labour migration and the ongoing refugee crisis, the ways in which Islam is taught and engaged with in educational settings has become a major topic of contention in Europe. Recognising the need for academic engagement around the challenges and benefits of effective Islamic Religious Education (IRE), this volume offers a comparative study of curricula, teaching materials, and teacher education in fourteen European countries, and in doing so, explores local, national, and international complexities of contemporary IRE. Considering the ways in which Islam is taught and represented in state schools, public Islamic schools, and non-confessional classes, Part One of this volume includes chapters which survey the varying degrees to which fourteen European States have adopted IRE into curricula, and considers the impacts of varied teaching models on Muslim populations. Moving beyond individual countries’ approaches to IRE, chapters in Part Two offer multi-disciplinary perspectives – from the hermeneutical-critical to the postcolonial – to address challenges posed by religious teachings on issues such as feminism, human rights, and citizenship, and the ways these are approached in European settings. Given its multi-faceted approach, this book will be an indispensable resource for postgraduate students, scholars, stakeholders and policymakers working at the intersections of religion, education and policy on religious education.

Book Synopsis Intercultural Education and Literacy by : Sheila Aikman
Download or read book Intercultural Education and Literacy written by Sheila Aikman and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1999-03-15 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indigenous peoples around the world are calling for control over their education in order to reaffirm their identities and defend their rights. In Latin America the indigenous peoples, national governments and international organisations have identified intercultural education as a means of contributing to this process. The book investigates education for and by indigenous peoples and examines the relationship between theoretical and methodological developments and formal practice. An ethnographic study of the Arakmbut people of the Peruvian Amazon, provides a detailed example of the social, cultural and educational change indigenous peoples are experiencing, an insight into Arakmbut oral learning and teaching practices as well as a review of their conceptualisations of knowledge, pedagogy and evaluation. The models of intercultural education being promoted by Latin American governments are, nevertheless, biliterate and school-based. The book analyses indigenous and non-indigenous models based on different conceptualisations of culture and curriculum in the context of the Arakmbut search for an education which respects their dynamic oral cultural traditions and identity, provides them with a qualitatively relevant education about the wider society and addresses the intercultural lives they lead.

Book Synopsis At Distance Representation of The Migrants in Turkish Textbooks by : zafer çelik
Download or read book At Distance Representation of The Migrants in Turkish Textbooks written by zafer çelik and published by gav perspektif yayınları. This book was released on 2024-04-29 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Turkish textbooks, migrants are frequently portrayed as marginalized individuals who are labelled as “needy”, “guests”, and “consumers of limited resources”. These textbooks fail to portray migrants as a constituent element of society neglecting to acknowledge their substantial contributions to both social and economic life. Furthermore, the textbooks disregard the rich tapestry of migrants’ lives, traditions, and cultures by omitting instances of successful migrant experiences. This narrative promotes discontent, hatred, exclusion, and fear towards migrants within educational institutions and society at large. However, defining migrants as the constituent elements of society, highlighting their contributions to social and economic life, and including their culture and traditions in textbooks can play a pivotal role in cultivating positive attitudes and behaviors towards immigrants. A paradigm shift in depicting migrants as essential constituents of society is imperative.

Download or read book Religious Education at Schools in Europe written by Martin Rothgangel and published by V&R Unipress. This book was released on 2020-09-07 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when educational issues have increasingly come to determine the social and political discourse and major reforms of the education system are being discussed and implemented, and when migration has become a significant phenomenon, contributing to changes in the religious landscape of the European continent, it is highly appropriate to focus our attention on the concrete situation regarding religious education. This volume contains – again on the basis of thirteen key questions – the countries in Southeastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey). Beyond the all-important tasks of taking stock and making international comparisons, the aim of this book is to create a foundation for further action in the field of education, especially with regard to interfaith expertise.

Book excerpt: Widespread voluntary tax compliance plays a significant role in countries’ efforts to raise the revenues necessary to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this process, governments are increasingly reaching out to taxpayers – current and future – to teach, communicate and assist them in order to foster a “culture of compliance” based on rights and responsibilities, in which citizens see paying taxes as an integral aspect of their relationship with their government.
