This book was released on 2006 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bojan Aleksov's study portrays the origins and the spreading of the Nazarenes - the first Protestant Serbs - in South Hungary and Serbia as an indicator of social change among the Serbian people, whose demands and needs the Orthodox Church had failed to meet. In order to account for the success of Nazarene missionaries, it also illuminates the strategies employed by Nazarenes in expanding and maintaining their communities which range from communalism, group mores and practices, internal economic organization of the Nazarene communities and their attitude towards economic change, and finally the appeal of the Nazarene faith and worship. Looking at the social, economic, cultural and historical motives of conversions to Nazarenes, it examines in depth the Nazarenes' challenge to the Serbian Orthodox Church and the latter's belated response in the form of the so-called re-Orthodoxization (in line with newly invented tradition of the Serbian version of Orthodox Christianity - Svetosavlje) and the development of the mass Bogomoljci movement with its implications for the development of the Serbian national self-identification observed in the changes of the notions of Church, religion and piety, which finally (during the interwar period) resulted in a discourse that combined and fused the nation and the Orthodox Church and closed the long-lasting gap between the Church and the Serbian people/nation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Details the ferment in civil rights that took place across the South before the momentous Brown vs. Board of Education decision in 1954 This collection refutes the notion that the movement began with the Supreme Court decision, and suggests, rather, that the movement originated in the 1930s and earlier, spurred by the Great Depression and, later, World War II—events that would radically shape the course of politics in the South and the nation into the next century. This work explores the growth of the movement through its various manifestations—the activities of politicians, civil rights leaders, religious figures, labor unionists, and grass-roots activists—throughout the 1940s and 1950s. It discusses the critical leadership roles played by women and offers a new perspective on the relationship between the NAACP and the Communist Party. Before Brown shows clearly that, as the drive toward racial equality advanced and national political attitudes shifted, the validity of white supremacy came increasingly into question. Institutionalized racism in the South had always offered white citizens material advantages by preserving their economic superiority and making them feel part of a privileged class. When these rewards were threatened by the civil rights movement, a white backlash occurred.

Book excerpt: In this short primer, Gorski and Perry explain what white Christian nationalism is and is not; when it first emerged and how it has changed; where it's headed and why it threatens democracy. Tracing the development of this ideology over the course of three centuries and especially its influence over the last three decades, they show how white Christian nationalism motivates the anti-democratic, authoritarian, and violent impulses on display in our current political moment.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of one man’s triumph over Cult Religion. As a preacher’s son, Jasper Love struggled to comply with the dogma and bigotry of the unpredictably changeable Doctrine of Good Enough dictated by Cult Religion. He and four sisters labored to comply with cult demands consistent with their mother’s mantra: “People expect preacher’s kids to be perfect.” The Voice of Truth (bestowed on Jasper as a child in a genuine salvation encounter with Jesus Christ) conflicts with voices of deception from pulpits and pews, triggering crippling anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. Further compounding his confusion is a terrifying awareness of the cult’s distortion of scripture concerning his innate identity. When a Connecticut preacher detects his private struggle, the Bible scholar promises: “If you marry a good Pentecostal girl, this thing will just fade away.” Jasper foolishly accepts the challenge, believing that the pastor’s counsel is based on Truth. A 32-year battle ensues, during which a Pentecostal preacher’s daughter who, aware of his struggle and trained in Exploitation of Advantage, manipulates and controls the miserable husband who strives to suppress and conceal an innate identity which “simply won’t leave me alone.” Cultists despise his genuine relationship with God when the Holy Spirit weakens the tenacious grasp of the antiChrist’s claim on his soul, rescuing him from abominable doctrines through Spiritual Enlightenment to Truth Absolute. Spiritual Warfare ensues, during which he is molested by authority figures, betrayed by cult dishonesty, falls into sin, is attacked by demons, and is delivered by the Holy Ghost through visions of spiritual combat between the demons of Cult Religion and the Angels of Truth. In the end, his foolish attempt to conform with the Doctrine of Good Enough predictably results in the destruction of everything he wasted a lifetime building: marriage, family, home, career, material wealth, and reputation. Yet, in losing all, he is delivered from the Darkness of cult idolatry, whereupon he is finally free to immerse himself in genuine Truth, Light, and Love, breaking the tyrannical chains of Cult Religion. Released by the Holy Spirit from cult bondage, he is at last unleashed to fulfill his destiny: To teach the Truth about Jasper Love (that boundless, unconditional love known only to those who genuinely experience Spiritual Enlightenment) to a people deceived by the hateful harlots of idolatry who are nothing more than power-crazed, authoritarian, self-aggrandizing, despotic antiChrist heretics who worship only one god - CONTROL.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This masterful six-volume encyclopedia provides comprehensive, global coverage of religion, emphasizing larger religious communities without neglecting the world's smaller religious outposts. Religions of the World, Second Edition: A Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Beliefs and Practices is an extraordinary work, bringing together the scholarship of some 225 experts from around the globe. The encyclopedia's six volumes offer entries on every country of the world, with particular emphasis on the larger nations, as well as Indonesia and the Latin American countries that are traditionally given little attention in English-language reference works. Entries include profiles on religion in the world's smallest countries (the Vatican and San Marino), profiles on religion in recently established or disputed countries (Kosovo and Nagorno-Karabakh), as well as profiles on religion in some of the world's most remote places (Antarctica and Easter Island). Religions of the World is unique in that it is based in religion "on the ground," tracing the development of each of the 16 major world religious traditions through its institutional expressions in the modern world, its major geographical sites, and its major celebrations. Unlike other works, the encyclopedia also covers the world of religious unbelief as expressed in atheism, humanism, and other traditions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1920s, Robert Athlyi Rogers founded the Afro-Athlican Constructive Gaathly religion in the West Indies. He wrote The Holy Piby as a guiding text, seeing Ethiopians - in the classical meaning of all Africans - as God's chosen people, and he preached self-determination and self-reliance. The Holy Piby is a major source of influence to the Rastafarian faith, which holds Haile Selassie I as Christ, and Marcus Garvey as his prophet. The Holy Piby consists of four books, and the seventh chapter of the second book identifies Marcus Garvey as one of three apostles of God. Original copies are extremely rare, and it is not even listed in the Library of Congress. The text was banned in Jamaica and many other Caribbean Islands until the late 1920s.
