Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church It seems strange that Luther in neither of his treatises on the establishment of public schools speaks specifically of the religious education of the child. His catechisms were not written for the school, but for 'pastors and teachers, ' as the preface to the Small Catechism says, and for 'house-fathers, ' as the headings of the various parts say. Even Gerhard looks to the ministers and not to the schools for the religious training of the children. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Grace of Healing We have no other foundation than the word of God for our faith in divine healing. We need no other. Every unbiased mind must see it in the word of God. Testimony is good, and often gives a divine impulse to our faith in the living promises; but the word of God alone is the Rock upon which our faith must stand. Every individual must find this sure foundation for his feet, so that in every trial his faith may rest secure, and he may triumphantly say, I am built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone. Praise God! We are in the midst of all the gospel privileges. Let us open our hearts toward God, and through his excel lent living Word let us drink in the streams of unceas ing blessings. Our spiritual and physical life may be deluged with grace. The throne of grace is accessi ble, and provides every need for soul and body. We use the term grace of healing because it is the favor of God shown toward us in his merciful pro vision for the health of his people. The health cove nant with Israel was but the foreshadowing of this grace, which should be revealed through the gospel of Christ, which is extended to all who meet the condi tions of redemption, and through faith become heirs according to the promise. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Healing of Christ in His Church It is apparent on all sides that there is a gradual awakening in many'hearts to the truth of the Healing Presence of Christ in His Church. Many are seeking the truth and longing for healing, and those who are seek ing it in Christ Himself, Who is the Truth, are finding the fulfilment of God's promises: Seek and ye shall find: knock and it shall be opened unto you. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. I believe that God has much to teach us in the life of His Son J esus Christ, and in the truth of His Presence in our midst, and this little book is sent out, with the consciousness of many imperfections and shortcomings, yet with the earnest desire that with God's blessing it may bring to the Church a helpful message of the Healing Presence of Christ. It is my great desire to see the Church, under the guidance of her Bishops, carrying on once more this part of her mission as the instrument of our Lord's Ministry of Healing, and I feel the great importance of the first steps. There are many rays of truth presented to the world at the present time, and the tendency is to accept this way or that as the whole truth. The Whole truth is in Christ alone. He who is Truth and Light of Light gathers up all rays of light and truth in Himself, for all come from Him and all lead back to Him. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Healing Ministry of the Church HE causes for the pitiable commonness of these troubles are manifold and complicated, and form an interrelated network which it is im possible to disentangle. The breakdown of re ligious faith; the growing artificiality of our so cial system; the mad rush for wealth; mental idle ness and frivolity; the use of stimulants and nar coties; the lack of self-control, arising, it may be, from overwork, or from culpable self -indulgence - all these and other factors are producing amongst us a neurotic and disordered tempera ment. Hence the formidable list of psychic ailments. I can name here but a few: hysteria, which mani fests itself in exaggerated emotional displays, such as intense craving for sympathy or admira tion, or in unconscious simulation of various dis eases, the fruit of an ill-balanced though by no means organically diseased brain; hypochondria, or the fixed but groundless belief that the subject [5. Book excerpt: God's Laws of Healing for Spirit, Soul and Body is a publication dedicated to the belief and faith in Christianity with the main purpose of inspiring similar passions in others. Through faith, the book argues, all healing can begin as belief in God allows for you to receive the healing of God. This book aims to reveal "the natural and spiritual laws by which all manner of disease of body, soul and spirit are healed through faith in the word of God." The book contains several chapters that explore Christianity and faith, and how these concepts can be utilized to promote personal health and to overcome disease. The book also tackles specific questions and offers answers to medical concerns such as "cigarette habits," "scurvy," and "the salt habit." In addition, the text offers a series of lectures (to be read or shared) and a variety of lessons to explore that pertain to the subject, as well as a detailed exploration of some more controversial topics such as "the devil's miracles" and proof of more than one hundred cases of disease ostensibly healed via the power of God. Whether you're a believer of Christianity or not, God's Laws of Healing for Spirit, Soul and Body is an interesting or entertaining read. This book may be fascinating for individuals intrigued by early Christian thoughts and practices, as this book provides wonderful insight into the power of faith. This book can also be for readers who wonder about early medical practices, as this book offers an entertaining look at medical beliefs. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian Healing and the People's Idea of God: Sermons Delivered at Boston The improved theory and practice of religion and of medicine are mainly due to the people's improved views of the Supreme Being. As the finite sense of Deity, based on material conceptions of spiritual being, yields its grosser elements, we shall learn what God is, and what God does. The Hebrew term that gives another letter to the word God and makes it good, unites Science and Christianity, whereby we learn that God, good, is universal, and the divine Principle, Life, Truth, Love; and this Principle is learned through goodness, and of Mind instead of matter, of Soul instead of the senses, and by revelation supporting reason. It is the false conceptions of Spirit, based on the evidences gained from the material senses, that make a. Christian only in theory, shockingly material in practice, and form its Deity out of the worst human qualities, else of wood or stone. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classic Christian author A. J. Gordon expresses curiosity about whether the healing miracles from the Middle Ages up to his day can be verified as a continuation of Christ’s Spirit in the church. Through deep study and inquiry of the established history, Gordon concludes that the power to heal followers remains with the church—there was no special era of miracle working. God and His powers remain the same in the modern era as they have right through human history. For Gordon, God’s intervention in the suffering and sickness of His followers is frequent; the will of the Lord however is variable—but He will not prolong the pain of someone whose illness is too great. Throughout this text, A. J. Gordon makes his argument from a biblical perspective, citing passages in both the Old and New Testament that support the continuation of spiritual gifts. Quoting testimonies of believers across the ages, he offers a convincing argument that the church ministry is, to this day, one of healing.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mother Said So When, at the request of the General Board of Religious Education (publications Department) I was asked to write this Lenten Book, I had in mind as the subject, that long tradition of the revela tion of God to mankind, which has come down from the Hebrews and through the Christian Church. I wanted to show to ordinary Church people, in brief outline, that our Lord Jesus is Him self the true Israel of God. He is the faithful rem nant of that chosen people, who in a great Mystery, the mvstery of Christ and the Church, Eph. 3 3 9; makes good all the promises of God to His ancient people, fulfills all the hopes and aspira tions of that people. And carries out through His Bodv the Church, the vocation of that Israel, which was to be a royal priesthood to bring the revelation of the one true God to all mankind. Jew and Gentile alike, and to bring all mankind to offer themselves through Christ Himself to the one true God, so making Jew and Gentile, all of man kind, one. To whom does the Prophet refer (isaiah 41 8; 2 and following chapters) when he speaks of the Servant of God? Some say that he refers to Israel the nation. Some say he refers to Jesus Christ the Messiah. Which is correct? Both are right for Jesus is the faithful rem nant of Israel, so that whatever refers to Israel re fers to Him, and through Him to His Body which is the Church. Israel of old was the suffering servant, Jesus is the suffering and faithful Serv ant. The Church which is his Body will always be a suffering servant, and every member of the Church as a member of Christ's Body will have the cross to bear. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian Living and Healing: A Text-Book of Healing by the Power of Truth as Taught and Demonstrated by the Master Lord Jesus Christ For over twelve years these lessons have been given to spiritual students, hundreds of whom are living demonstrations of their efficacy in healing. Not only have the sick been healed by the practice of these teachings, but characters have been redeemed from vice and weakness, and prosperity has come to those who had never dreamed that there is a law of mind that gives fortune and freedom from debt. Therefore these teachings are not theoretical or chimerical, but proven Truth, that Truth which is more valuable than any earthly treasure that could be named, and for which no exchange would even be considered by the one who has learned and realized It. The lessons were first brought out as a serial in the metaphysical magazine Unity, of Kansas City, Mo., and through its wide circulation they have reached thousands whose loving testimonials are coming to the writer every day. As numbers of public teachers and healers have been the fruitage of the oral deliverance of these lectures, the same blessed harvest is anticipated through their dissemination in printing.
