Book excerpt: Abstract: "This paper describes TRAM, a scalable reliable multicast transport protocol. TRAM is designed to support bulk data transfer with a single sender and multiple receivers. It uses dynamic trees to implement local error recovery and to scale to a large number of receivers without seriously impacting the sender. It also includes flow control, congestion control, and other adaptive techniques necessary to operate efficiently and fairly with other protocols across the wide variety of link and client characteristics that make up the Internet as well as intranets. TRAM has been successfully used to implement several bulk data delivery applications. TRAM has been tested and simulated in a number of network environments."

Book Synopsis Reliable Multicast Congestion Control (RMCC). by :
Download or read book Reliable Multicast Congestion Control (RMCC). written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At present, there are no standardized, Internet-based multicast transport protocols that provide effective, dynamic congestion control methods for safe, wide scale deployment of end-to-end rate adaptive applications (e.g., file transfer). Recent research and standardization efforts are beginning to address these issues. This paper describes ongoing research and development related to network congestion control mechanisms for multicast data transport. We concentrate on the design issues for reliable multicast protocols in particular and we describe our approach for adding dynamic congestion control to a negative acknowledgement oriented protocol. We also present simulation and modeling results demonstrating prototype system performance, including analysis of Transport Control Protocol (TCP) fairness and router congestion indicators. We also relate our work to other ongoing research and standards development efforts.

This book was released on 2001 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, we describe ongoing work in adding congestion control extensions to an existing negative acknowledgement (NACK) oriented reliable multicast protocol. Our previous work adopted and used the concept of a dynamic worst path representative for equation-based rate adaptation at the multicast source and we have further refined this approach and present results here. We present an overview of these extensions implemented within a working reliable multicast protocol (mdp-cc) and we present simulation results. Our analysis of interflow fairness with TCP unicast sessions demonstrates friendly behavior across a set of scenarios and results with more dynamic flows show that the worst path representative approach adapts rapidly to changing congestion conditions.
Book Synopsis A Comparison of Known Classes of Reliable Multicast Protocols by : Brian Neil Levine
Download or read book A Comparison of Known Classes of Reliable Multicast Protocols written by Brian Neil Levine and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We analyze the maximum throughput that the known classes of reliable multicast protocols can attain. A new taxonomy of reliable multicast protocols is introduced based on the premise that the mechanisms used to release data at the source after correct delivery should be decoupled from the mechanisms used to pace the transmission of data and to effect error recovery. Receiver-initiated protocols, which are based entirely on negative acknowledgments (NAKs) sent from the receivers to the sender, have been proposed to avoid the implosion of acknowledgments (ACKs) to the source. However, these protocols are shown to require infinite buffers in order to prevent deadlocks. Two other solutions to the ACK-implosion problem are tree-based protocols and ring-based protocols. The first organize the receivers in a tree and send ACKs along the tree; the latter send ACKs to the sender along a ring of receivers. These two classes of protocols are shown to operate correctly with finite buffers. Following our taxonomy, the maximum attainable throughput by the known classes of reliable multicast protocols is analyzed. It is shown that tree-based protocols constitute the most scalable class of all reliable multicast protocols proposed to date.

Book Synopsis Multimedia Multicast on the Internet by : Abderrahim Benslimane
Download or read book Multimedia Multicast on the Internet written by Abderrahim Benslimane and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines multicast technology and will be a key text for undergraduate engineering students and master students in networks and telecoms. However, it will be equally useful for a wide range of professionals in this research field. Multicast routing was introduced with the advent of multiparty applications (for example, videoconferencing on the Internet) and collaborative work (for example, distributed simulations). It is related to the concept of group communication, a technique introduced to reduce communication costs. The various problems of multicast routing on the Internet are examined in detail. They include: group membership management, quality of service, reliability, safety, scalability and transport. Throughout the text, several protocols are introduced in order to analyze, compare and cover the various aspects of multicast routing.

Download or read book A Reliable and Scalable Multicast Model RSM2 written by Ruchi Gupta and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, grade: 9, , course: M.TECH - Algo Networks, language: English, abstract: Abstract: Multicasting is the ability of a communication network to accept a single message from an application and to deliver copies of the message to multiple recipients at different locations. Our research in Multicasting, as to design a Multicast Model, which provides reliability & scalability with best path for data delivery. Reliability means guaranteed Delivery of packets. Scalability means capability to serve growing needs .In this context, a few concepts of Proactive-Routing technique are used to make available this model in Infrastructure wireless also. Minimum Spanning path and combo-casting is used to reduce the cost & delay and thus to deliver the packets. The main characteristic of RSM2 model is, to provide complete multicasting, i.e. at the same time more than one node can act as sender. This model provides one-to-many communications as well as many-to-many communications. The goal of thesis is to design an algorithm describing the function and behavior of Multicast Model (RSM2).
Book Synopsis Tree Auto-configuration for the Reliable Multicast Transport Protocol by : Tianyu Wang
Download or read book Tree Auto-configuration for the Reliable Multicast Transport Protocol written by Tianyu Wang and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reliable Multicast Transport Protocol is a hierarchical transport level protocol for IP multicast that provides reliable data transmission. The objective of this thesis is to define and implement the Tree Auto-Configuration algorithm, which generates a tree topology used for tree based reliable multicast transport protocols. The tree topology is comprised of a pre-deployed mesh, multiple senders, local service nodes, and a large number of receivers. We implement this algorithm in C++ based on Meta-Transport Library, which is a set of C++ base classes designed to present an infrastructure for building transport protocols.
