Book Synopsis The Temptation of Adam by : Dave Connis
Download or read book The Temptation of Adam written by Dave Connis and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adam Hawthorne is fine. Yeah, his mother left, his older sister went with her, and his dad would rather read Nicholas Sparks novels than talk to him. And yeah, he spends his nights watching self-curated porn video playlists. But Adam is fine. When a family friend discovers Adam’s porn addiction, he’s forced to join an addiction support group: the self-proclaimed Knights of Vice. He goes because he has to, but the honesty of the Knights starts to slip past his defenses. Combine that with his sister’s out-of-the-blue return and the attention of a girl he meets in an AA meeting, and all the work Adam has put into being fine begins to unravel. Now Adam has to face the causes and effects of his addiction, before he loses his new friends, his prodigal sister, and his almost semi-sort-of girlfriend.

She invites readers to develop processes to enhance and cultivate their own visions through the application of imagination and the arts. Releasing the Imagination should be required reading for all educators, particularly those in teacher education, and for general and academic readers." —Choice "Maxine Greene, with her customary eloquence, makes an impassioned argument for using the arts as a tool for opening minds and for breaking down the barriers to imagining the realities of worlds other than our own familiar cultures.... There is a strong rhythm to the thoughts, the arguments, and the entire sequence of essays presented here." —American Journal of Education "Releasing the Imagination gives us a vivid portrait of the possibilities of human experience and education's role in its realization. It is a welcome corrective to current pressures for educational conformity." —Elliot W. Eisner, professor of education and art, Stanford University "Releasing the Imagination challenges all the cant and cliché littering the field of education today. It breaks through the routine, the frozen, the numbing, the unexamined; it shocks the reader into new awareness." —William Ayers, associate professor, College of Education, University of Illinois, Chicago

Book Synopsis Releasing resources to the frontline by : Great Britain: National Audit Office
Download or read book Releasing resources to the frontline written by Great Britain: National Audit Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008-01-25 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs) are stand-alone, national organisations that are sponsored by the Department of Health to deliver specialised services and functions. ALBs range in size, but normally have boards, employ staff and publish accounts, and receive substantial funding from the Department. This National Audit Office report examines the allocation of resources and potential efficiencies that such bodies require. There are four categories of ALB: (i) Regulation of the healthcare system, e.g. Healthcare Commission; (ii) Establishing of national standards for healthcare, e.g. National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence; (iii) Safety and public welfare, e.g. Health Protection Agency; (iv) Provision of central services to the NHS, e.g. NHS Litigation Authority. In 2003-04, there were 38 ALBs, employing some 25,000 staff and receiving £1.2 billion grant-in-aid funding. The NAO has set out a number of recommendations, including: to deliver efficiencies in ALBs, targets should focus on value for money defined in terms of total resources; Departments must be clear about what targets mean in practice and that any decisions to merge or reconfigure such bodies should be based on an Impact Assessment, identifying the costs and benefits of the change; Departments intending to deliver efficiencies through their ALBs, should map out their ALB sector and understand the individual circumstances of the particular ALB; Departments should also establish baseline performance and financial metrics; sponsors or other parts of the Department should not commission new work from ALBs without prior discussion with the central ALB finance team; after the conclusion of the ALB Review in 2008-09, good practice governance arrangements should be maintained, with appropriate assessment of the purpose and value for money of any new ALBs established.

His weakness gave me strength, and his past held my future. He saved me by ... releasing me.
