Book excerpt: Uno de los aspectos mas importantes para las empresas es la seguridad de sus empleados, no solo porque los accidentes causan pérdidas sino porque también, dependiendo del tipo de accidente, pueden tener efecto en la salud de los trabajadores, todo esto aunado al hecho de que las regulaciones del país toman cada vez mas en cuenta el factor salud en la empresas y han desarrollado nuevas leyes para proteger a los empleados. El propósito de este estudio es determinar si existe una relación entre distintos factores organizacionales y la accidentabilidad en una planta química. Por ser este un estudio de caso se selecciono solo una empresa con cuatro plantas que producen diferentes productos químicos en las que se obtuvieron los datos de accidentes totales en los últimos 5 años (1999 - 2003) y de la encuesta de clima laboral se obtuvo la calificación del rubro de los siguientes factores organizacionales: trabajo en equipo, comunicación, reconocimientos, capacitación, promociones, condiciones de trabajo, sueldos y salarios, prestaciones, participación en círculos, relaciones interpersonales, supervisión, oportunidades de desarrollo, valores e índice de moral con el fin de comparar los accidentes con cada uno de estos factores y encontrar alguna relación entre los mismos y la accidentabilidad. Como se verá en el marco teórico se han realizado estudios que demuestran que existen relaciones entre algunos de estos factores organizacionales y el comportamiento de los empleados, así como también se han desarrollado teorías que atribuyen los accidentes a los errores humanos por lo que este estudio trata de probar que al existir un mejor clima laboral los errores disminuyen, disminuyendo de esta manera la accidentabilidad.

El diagnóstico y análisis de dichos contextos puede contribuir a identificar los factores que afectan la salud y seguridad de los trabajadores, a identificar los grupos de mayor riesgo por industria o profesión en la población y a diseñar actividades preventivas. La prevención de riesgos laborales no solo debe orientarse a la mejora continua de las condiciones de trabajo. La condición de trabajo se refiere a las condiciones físicas y organizacionales, y el entorno laboral, entre otros elementos. Igualmente, establece que los índices estadísticos clásicos no proporcionan información sobre la evolución de las condiciones del trabajo ni ayudan a prever cómo estas evolucionan. Se necesitan indicadores que proporcionen información necesaria para poder actuar de forma proactiva.

Book excerpt: La accidentabilidad laboral es un problema actual en nuestras sociedades industrializadas y desde hace tiempo se busca controlar aquellos factores que originan los riesgos en los lugares de trabajo. Son muchas las teorías que abordan la causalidad de los accidentes labores. Entre ellas están aquellas que identifican el factor humano como corresponsable de dichos accidentes. Sin embargo, existen otras causas exógenas no siempre bien estudiadas, como es el caso de la influencia de aquellas variables inductoras de la satisfacción laboral del trabajador. Es por ello, que este trabajo pretende analizar a partir de estadísticas oficiales en qué grado variables relacionadas con la satisfacción y el estrés laboral influye en la accidentabilidad. Para ello se han realizado nos clases de estudios: nivel descriptivo y nivel estadístico. En lo que se refiere al análisis descriptivo, los resultados nos muestran que existe una relación estrecha entre el nivel de satisfacción con la seguridad laboral y aspectos clave del perfil del trabajador. Los resultados que hacen referencia al nivel de satisfacción laboral por Comunidad Autónoma sugieren que en territorios con altos niveles de satisfacción en el tiempo tienden a disminuir este efecto (período 2006-2008). El mismo efecto se muestra en los territorios que muestran niveles de satisfacción muy bajos. Por otro lado una población con bajos niveles de estrés laboral tiende cada vez más a disminuir este efecto en el tiempo, sin embargo los territorios donde se reporta altos niveles de estrés laboral tiende a aumentar este estrés laboral durante el tiempo analizado (2006-2008). Estos resultados pueden tener su origen como consecuencia de la coyuntura económica que tuvo su inicio en el 2008. En lo que se refiere al análisis estadístico, los resultados permiten concluir que la satisfacción laboral es un factor determinante para contribuir a reducir los niveles de accidentabilidad laboral. En adición, los resultados apuntan hacia la presencia de un efecto asociado al ciclo económico a la hora de valorar el impacto del estrés laboral y la satisfacción con la seguridad laboral sobre la accidentabilidad. Por una parte, los resultados muestran que en periodos de bonanza económica existe una intensificación de la prevención y seguridad laboral, lo que lleva a que los territorios donde los trabajadores reportan mayores niveles de estrés laboral muestren mayores tasas de accidentabilidad laboral. Por otra parte los resultados indican que, en periodos de recesión económica, indica un incremento de la vulnerabilidad del trabajador ante accidentes laborales. En este caso, una mayor vulnerabilidad reportada puede tener su origen en el esfuerzo de los trabajadores por mantener su puesto de trabajo en periodos de recesión económica y por tanto la disminución en la notificación de accidentes laborales.
