Book excerpt: Reiki: The True Story is a comprehensive investigation of Reiki as both a healing practice and a lifelong path of spiritual awakening. Author and Reiki expert Don Beckett weaves together a new story about Reiki’s origins and its founder’s true vision. The foundation of this book is the teachings of a group of Reiki founder Makao Usui’s original students, who held their master’s knowledge in secrecy for more than seventy years. After a general introduction to Reiki, Beckett presents a thorough history of the discipline (including the testimony of some of Usui’s students) as well as an in-depth manual for practice. The author rounds out his exploration with material from world renowned, contemporary Reiki Masters, Beckett’s own insights into the nature of Reiki energy, as well as information about the chakra system, yin and yang, and the Five Transformations. The book concludes with a chapter entitled “Beyond Reiki,” which bridges knowledge of Reiki with the lesser-known practice of Johrei. Thorough explanations coupled with cutting-edge discoveries about Reiki’s past make this a compelling volume for novice and experienced practitioners alike.

Jacqui has brought Reiki to life in a way that will be very helpful to beginners". Nick Cook (VWC President) "Narrative non-fiction is at its best when the author reveal something about themselves as well as observing the world they live in. Jacqui does just that. Her writing is honest, straight from the heart, and provides a perfect example of how Reiki can help peopleovercome personal grief". Steve Barley ( Editor) www.time2heal.co.uk

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second half of the twentieth century, Reiki went from an obscure therapy practiced by a few thousand Japanese and Japanese Americans to a global phenomenon. By the early twenty-first century, people in nearly every corner of the world have undergone the initiations that authorize them to channel a cosmic energy—known as Reiki—to heal body, mind, and spirit. They lay hands on themselves and others, use secret symbols and incantations to send Reiki to distant recipients, and strive to follow five precepts to cultivate their spiritual growth. Reiki’s international rise and development is due to the work of Hawayo Takata (1900–1980), a Hawai‘i-born Japanese American woman who brought Reiki out of Japan and adapted it for thousands of students in Hawai‘i and North America, shaping interconnections across the North Pacific region as well as cultural transformations over the transwar period spanning World War II. Alternate Currents: Reiki’s Circulation in the Twentieth-Century North Pacific analyzes how, from her training in Japan in the mid-1930s to her death in Iowa in 1980, Takata built a vast trans-Pacific network that connected Japanese American laborers on plantations in Hawai‘i to social elites in Tokyo, Hollywood, and New York; middle-class housewives in American suburbs; and off-the-grid tree planters in the mountains of British Columbia. Using recently uncovered archival materials and original oral histories, Justin B. Stein examines how these relationships between healer and patient, master and disciple, became deeply infused with values of their time and place and how they interplayed with Reiki’s circulation, performance, and meanings along with broader cultural shifts in the twentieth-century North Pacific. Highly readable and informative, each chapter is structured around a period in the life of Takata, the charismatic, rags-to-riches architect of the network in which Reiki spread for decades. Alternate Currents explores Reiki as an exemplary transnational spiritual therapy, demonstrating how lived practices transcend artificial distinctions between religion and medicine, and circulate in global systems while maintaining strong connections with the practices’ homeland.

While others have written of Reiki, Reiki and You, Awakening the Healer Within is unique for its Judaic-Christian perspective. Author Lyles traces the history of laying-on of hands and shares the how-to information about this healing modality in twelve easy-reading chapters. Reiki (Ray-Key) is now considered by many medical experts to be an important component of (w)holistic healing. It is currently used in over one hundred hospitals in the United States, including Sloan Kettering in New York. Its gentle, non-invasive ways, which help balance the endocrine system, help you feel and heal better. It is the subtle energy system that is the essence of life. Readers Comments about Reiki & You ... I encourage all health practitioners to learn to utilize the principles involved in Reiki in conjunction with conventional medical care. I believe the results would amaze them. Those interested in assuming some responsibility for their own health, as well as improving the lives and health of those around them, should read this book as their first step in their journey towards better health and enlightenment. Kent C. Kyzar, M.D., Yazoo, MS The historic religious roots found in chapter two were comforting and assuring to someone who looks for validation with God and science. As I learned more about the strength from within to heal, I found I was on a new threshold of ancient origin, one that feels and sounds exciting and divine in its sense of vocation and of empowerment. Connie Biagioli, Dental Assistant, Baltimore, MD I have read other books about Reiki and found none more clear than this one. Marge makes it easy with her simple, down-to-earth approach. Lino Stanchich, Macrobiotic International Lecturer, N.C.. Reiki & You is an excellent tool to be used when teaching Reiki. The book lends itself to thorough reading and understanding by even the busiest. Reiki Master, Patricia D. Conroy, M.S., L.M.T., Miami, FL
