The manuscript which has supplied the text is in the possession of Sir Gervas Powell Glyn, Bart., of the Rectory House, Ewell, and is a transcript made in the earlier half of the sixteenth century of the original drawn up at the beginning of the fifteenth century. The late Mr. Edward Fairfax Taylor* of Spring House, Ewell, favourably known among classical students as the translator of Virgil's AEneid which translation appeared posthumously in 1903 - took in hand the transcribing and translating of this Memoriale, but had proceeded but a little way in the first and had hardly begun the second when his sudden death occurred in January 1902. At the desire of Sir Gervas I entered into his labours after a considerable interval, but with many preoccupations 1 should scarcely have got through the work but for the opportune help of Mr. Colin Ford, who was at that time a clerk in the office of Mr. Loader Cooper, Town Clerk of Chichester. He accomplished the bulk of the transcribing and a considerable part of the translating - a monotonous task, which was patiently carried through.
