Book Synopsis Regional Airports by : M. N. Postorino
Download or read book Regional Airports written by M. N. Postorino and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regional Airports have become increasingly important elements of the air network system, both as feeders of hub-and-spoke services and as origins or destination of point-to-point services.Congestion at the main hubs and increasing demand for air transportation - both for passengers and freight services – necessitates revaluation of the overall air systems, with regional airports taking an ever expanding role. Optimisation of air transportation systems within the framework of other forms of transport plays an important part in the present quest for sustainability. Congestion nowadays is not only associated with countries such as the USA and those in the EU, but also a variety of other countries with fast developing economies where there is a strong increase in air transportation demand. The revolution of the existing airport system, including regional airports requires the developing of new optimisation tools which can simulate the whole process and produce optimal solutions. These models are also essential to predict future demands and, in particular the role that regional airports will play. The siting of new airports involves taking into consideration a variety of environmental, ecological, social and economic factors which transcend the problem of transportation resources optimisation itself. Regional Airports can be a powerful driving force behind the development of an area and conversely can result in major problems if they are wrongly sited.

Book Synopsis The Airline Revolution by : Gordon Mills
Download or read book The Airline Revolution written by Gordon Mills and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When starting new airlines in response to government deregulation, entrepreneurs in the U.S. and Europe reduced some traditional service qualities (to reduce costs), concentrated on non-stop services between city pairs not already so connected, improved on-time performance, and offered low fares to win leisure travelers from the incumbents and to encourage more travel. In recent developments, some of the new airlines have offered optional extras (at higher fares) to attract business travelers and entered major routes alongside the legacy carriers. Within both the U.S. and Europe, deregulation removed most geographical barriers to expansion by short-haul airlines. Later, limited deregulation spread to other world regions, where many short-haul routes connect city pairs in different countries, and where governments have retained traditional two-country mechanisms restricting who may fly. To gain access to domestic routes in other countries, some new airlines are setting up affiliate companies in neighboring countries, with each company legally controlled in the country of domicile. With air travel growing strongly, especially in Asia, a common result is intense, but potentially short-lived, competition on major routes. The recent developments give clear signposts to likely mid-term outcomes, and make this an opportune time to report on the new-airline scene. The Airline Revolution will provide valuable economic analysis of this climate to students, airline professionals advancing to senior positions, public servants and others who provide advice to governments.

Book Synopsis The Regulation of Air Transport by : Barry Humphreys
Download or read book The Regulation of Air Transport written by Barry Humphreys and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The regulation of modern civil aviation can be traced back to the later years of the Second World War. An intense debate about the future regulatory regime resulted in a compromise which to this day essentially dictates the structure of the global airline industry. Further progress towards ‘normalising’ the industry appears to be slowing down, and perhaps even going into reverse. Without an understanding of the development of regulation, it is not possible to understand fully the industry’s current problems and how they might be resolved. Many books have been written about the development of international air transport, covering deregulation, privatisation, the emergence of new business models among other things, but few if any have taken a broad view of the trends which have determined the industry’s current structure. The Regulation of Air Transport charts the development of aviation from the end of the Second World War to the present day, following the key trends and disruptive forces. It provides an overview of what has determined the industry’s current structure, the problems still facing the industry and the ways in which it could develop in the future. This wide-ranging study is important reading for both professionals and academics within the aviation field, as well as anyone interested in the broader development of economic regulation.

This book was released on 1996-03-20 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European Union External Competence and External Relations in Air Transport is an essential guide for all those interested in the development of European Union external relations in general and in the field of air transport in particular. Part I of the book offers a detailed analysis of the EU's internal and external competence in air transport and related topics, taking into account the amendments introduced by the Single European Act and the Treaty on European Union. A new vision is proposed of the development of external competence in air transport and a new classification of the Community's secondary legislative measures in this area. Part II offers a detailed analysis of the EU's external relations in air transport, including an analysis of the Air Transport Agreement with Norway and Sweden, the extension of the trans-European transport network, and the inclusion of air transport in recently concluded association and trade agreements. The many problems facing external relations, and the future prospects for such relations, are revealed. Community participation in civil aviation organizations is also discussed.
