This book was released on 2011-11-03 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government set out its new approach to regeneration in Regeneration to enable growth: What Government is doing in support of community-led regeneration (DCLG). But the document gives the Committee little confidence that the Government has a clear strategy for addressing the country's regeneration needs. It lacks strategic direction and is unclear about the nature of the problem it is trying to solve. It focuses overwhelmingly upon the achievement of economic growth, giving little emphasis to the specific issues faced by deprived communities and areas of market failure. The proposed measures are unlikely to bring in sufficient resources. Funding for regeneration has been reduced dramatically and disproportionately over the past two years, and unless alternative sources can be found, there is a risk of problems being stored up for the future. Also lacking is a strategy for attracting private sector investment. And the document gives too much prominence to changes to the planning system and does not acknowledge the benefits effective planning has brought to regeneration. The financial and economic climate has impacted dramatically upon regeneration, but the withdrawal of Housing Market Renewal Funding in particular has created significant problems, leaving many residents trapped in half-abandoned streets. The Committee suggests a number of measures that could, as part of a wider approach, contribute to stimulating regeneration and incentivising private sector involvement. The Government should now produce a national regeneration strategy which sets out a coherent approach to tackling deprivation and market failure in the country's most disadvantaged areas.

Book Synopsis Urban Regeneration Management by : John Diamond
Download or read book Urban Regeneration Management written by John Diamond and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was born out of the need to ‘capture’ the experience and understanding of the regeneration management process that is neither UK centric nor centred exclusively on urban areas. Written by experts working in the USA, Holland, Greece, Jamaica, Turkey, Spain, Trinidad and the Czech Republic, this book seeks to locate the issue of regeneration in a context which will enable the reader to reflect upon practices which are ‘local’ but are shaped by international processes. As well as proving an accessible review of the theoretical literature on globalisation and its impact upon managing regeneration initiatives, this book also illustrates these theoretical debates with specific examples which provide insight to both urban and rural developments. This book will be of great interest to students, researchers and practitioners engaged in regeneration management, providing a thematic exploration and examination of the ‘global’ regeneration experience.

Book Synopsis Social Regeneration and Local Development by : Silvia Sacchetti
Download or read book Social Regeneration and Local Development written by Silvia Sacchetti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social regeneration is about the transformative processes that, through institutional choices that embody cooperation and inclusion, develop opportunities and capabilities for weak categories, and transversally for society. The challenge of social regeneration can be addressed, in part, through organisational solutions increasingly identified with social economy organisations, since they are characterised by a social objective, cooperation and inclusive democratic governance. Besides the organisational element, Social Regeneration and Local Development provides a new perspective on interacting socio-economic factors, which can work in synergy with the social economy organisations model to promote and sustain social regeneration and well-being. Such elements include civic engagement and social capital, the nature of the welfare system, the use of physical assets in urban and rural areas, leadership, technology, and finance. By analysing organisational and contextual elements, this book offers an institutional perspective on how socio-economic systems can reply to challenges such as social and environmental degradation, financial crises, immigration, inequality, and marginalisation.

Book Synopsis Rural Regeneration in the UK by : Simon Pemberton
Download or read book Rural Regeneration in the UK written by Simon Pemberton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-26 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rural Regeneration in the UK provides an accessible yet critical overview of rural regeneration policy and governance in the UK. It charts the key patterns and processes of rural change since 1945 and the emergence and evolution of rural regeneration policy and governance in shaping rural spaces. A key objective of the book is to highlight how, and to what extent, rural regeneration policy and governance are responsive to an increasingly differentiated and uneven rural economy and society. Part One considers the context for rural regeneration, including theoretical frameworks of relevance and the ways in which rural regeneration policy and governance have been framed. In particular, it includes a consideration of how the rural has been made ‘thinkable’, and the extent to which this has moved beyond traditional concerns with agricultural development. Part Two highlights the key dimensions and spaces of rural regeneration. This includes responses to rural change from ‘within the rural’, including community-led approaches, the use of culture and the extent to which approaches may be converging or diverging within a devolved UK. Rural Regeneration in the UK provides a comprehensive and integrated analysis of responses to rural change that will appeal to a broad audience of students, scholars and practitioners both in the UK and abroad.
Book Synopsis Regenerative Development and Design by : Regenesis Group
Download or read book Regenerative Development and Design written by Regenesis Group and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of sustainability, with a practical framework for integration Regenerative Development and Design takes sustainability to the next level, and provides a framework for incorporating regenerative design principles into your current process. The Regenesis Group is a coalition of experienced design, land-use, planning, business, and development professionals who represent the forefront of the movement; in this book, they explain what regenerative development is, how and why it works, and how you can incorporate the fundamental principles into your practice. A clear, focused framework shows you how to merge regenerative concepts with your existing work, backed by numerous examples that guide practical application while illustrating regenerative design and development in action. As the most comprehensive and systemic approach to regenerative development, this book is a must-have resource for architects, planners, and designers seeking the next step in sustainability. Regenerative design and development positions humans as co-creative and mutually-evolving participants in an ecosystem—not just a built environment. This book describes how to bring that focus to your design from the earliest stages. Understand the fundamentals of regenerative design and development Learn how regenerative development contributes to sustainability Integrate regenerative development concepts into practice Examine sample designs that embody the regenerative concept To create a design with true sustainability, considerations must extend far beyond siting, materials, and efficiency. Designers must look at the place, it's inhabitants, and the purpose—the whole living ecosystem—and proceed with their work from that more humbling perspective. The finished product should itself be an ecosystem and sustainable economy, which is the root of the regenerative development approach. Sustainability has evolved, and the designer's responsibility has increased in kind. Regenerative Development and Design provides an authoritative resource for those ready to take the next step forward.
Book Synopsis The regeneration of east Manchester by : Georgina Blakeley
Download or read book The regeneration of east Manchester written by Georgina Blakeley and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: East Manchester has been the site of one of the most substantial regeneration projects internationally. The initiative in east Manchester confirmed the tag that the city is the ‘regeneration capital’ of the United Kingdom. While the book focuses on a single project, it has wider relevance to national and international regeneration initiatives. The book assesses the outcomes of the regeneration, although it demonstrates the difficulties in producing a definitive evaluation. It has a political focus and illuminates and challenges many assumptions underpinning three major current academic debates: governance, participatory democracy and ideology. The book is relevant to students of politics, geography, sociology, public administration and recent history but will also interest practitioners, academics and general readers interested in urban regeneration. Mancunians will also be fascinated by the rapidly changing face and character of their city as will those with an interest in Manchester’s football, the Commonwealth Games and Sportcity.
