Book excerpt: Many authors approached packaging without consideration of logistics activities in supply chain, resulting in inefficiency of supply chain. However, recently some researchers have approached this gap in a scientific way, which is called "Packaging Logistics", an emerging concept. Packaging Scorecard, a packaging performance evaluation tool, is the only available tool that has tried to systematically bridge this gap. Although, Packaging Scorecard can outline the performance of packaging system in distribution flow, the complexity of the chain and less internally reliable methods use in this tool encouraged the authors to develop a new packaging performance evaluation model. In the first step, this innovative model weights the criteria of performance by a more reliable tool called AHP. The criteria are adapted from previous researches. Further, in order to suggest improvements of the packaging systems, Design of Experiment(DOE) is added to the model to evaluate the performance of criteria. Furthermore, case studies were conducted in a leading Swedish distribution chain to validate the model. The results of studied problems were validated the functionality of the new developed model.

Book excerpt: Packaging design is a powerful vehicle for making our lives friendlier, our planet greener and our businesses richer. It is an essential link between the producer and the customer, where it contributes to the positioning and presentation of a product; and on many occasions, the use of the product after purchase. What is missing is a compass that can guide practitioners in the right direction. This is particularly so in the field of packaging where the routes you take may contradict rather than contribute to sustainable development. Managing Packaging Design for Sustainable Development: A Compass for Strategic Directions emphasizes the need to rethink packaging system design, by presenting a strategic packaging design tool; a compass. The compass encourages you to go off-road, to develop and innovate, and to remake the packaging design solution that previously was best practice. Theory and practical applications are balanced by outlining the most crucial tenets of packaging design for sustainability and by illustrating wide range of real-life cases that will inspire and challenge the mindsets of those who apply the compass in packaging design related projects. This is a must-have book for designers, engineers, logisticians, marketers, supply chain professionals and other managers who seek guidance on sustainable solutions through packaging design.

A cardiologist who works long hours in the emergency room at a local hospital, Meryt maintains only a few close relationships. Drama is a five-letter word she can do without. She's been taught the deadly lesson of betrayal and drama once before, and she dares not let anyone get close enough to give her a second lesson. Besides, Meryt has her own secrets—another life that must remain classified. Even so, nothing can remain a secret forever; her classified life has an expiration date. If she cannot put the pieces together and figure out her mission before that date, Meryt's drama free life will come to an end. What's more, her new acquaintances, the Daniels family, have their own hidden agenda, and the more Meryt discovers their secrets, the more her life becomes entangled in theirs leading her down a mysterious path. Meryt is in a race against time and unknown enemies. If she can't figure out her true mission soon, she will be forced to relive her gruesome past and again face losing everyone she has ever loved.
