Book excerpt: Improving the performance of most engineering systems requires the ability to model the system's behavior with improved accuracy. The evolution of the mechanical arm from teleoperator and crane to present day industrial and space robots and large space manipulators is no exception. Initial simple kinematic and dynamic models are no longer adequate to improve performance in the most critical applications. Both the mechanical system and control system require improved models for design simulation. Proposed new control algorithms require dynamic models for control calculation. Planning and programming activities as well as man-in-the-loop simulation also require accurate models of the arms. Accuracy is usually acquired at some cost. The application of mechanical arms to economically sensitive endeavors in industry and space also gives incentive to improve the efficiency of the formulation and simulation of dynamic models. Control algorithms and man-in-the-loop simulation require real time calculation of dynamic behavior. Formulation of the dynamics in an easy to understand conceptual approach is also important if maximum use of the results is to be obtained. The nonlinear equations of motion for flexible manipulator arms consisting of rotary joints connecting two flexible links are developed. Kinematics of both the rotary joint motion and the link deformation are described by 4x4 transformation matrices. The link deflection is assumed small so that the link transformation can be composed of summations of assumed link shapes. The resulting equations are presented as scalar and 4x4 matrix operations ready for programming. (Author).
Book Synopsis Dynamics of Robots with Contact Tasks by : M. Vukobratovic
Download or read book Dynamics of Robots with Contact Tasks written by M. Vukobratovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As robots are becoming more and more sophisticated the interest in robot dynamics is increasing. Within this field, contact problems are among the most interesting, since contacts are present in almost any robot task and introduce serious complexity to system dynamics, strongly influencing robot behavior. The book formulates dynamic models of robot interaction with different kinds of environment, from pure geometrical constraints to complex dynamic environments. It provides a number of examples. Dynamic modeling is the primary interest of the book but control issues are treated as well. Because dynamics and contact control tasks are strongly related the authors also provide a brief description of relevant control issues. The book will be of interest to engineers working in research and development in robotics and automation and to both graduate and postgraduate students. The work will also be valuable to readers involved in manufacturing, robotics, automation, computer and control engineering.

Book excerpt: Computer Aided Design of Multivariable Technological Systems covers the proceedings of the Second International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). The book reviews papers that discuss topics about the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) in designing multivariable system, such as theoretical issues, applications, and implementations. The book tackles several topics relevant to the use of CAD in designing multivariable systems. Topics include quasi-classical approach to multivariable feedback system designs; fuzzy control for multivariable systems; root loci with multiple gain parameters; multivariable frequency domain stability criteria; and computational algorithms for pole assignment in linear multivariable systems. The text will be of great use to professionals whose work involves designing and implementing multivariable systems.

Download or read book The Mechanical Systems Design Handbook written by Yildirim Hurmuzlu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a specific focus on the needs of the designers and engineers in industrial settings, The Mechanical Systems Design Handbook: Modeling, Measurement, and Control presents a practical overview of basic issues associated with design and control of mechanical systems. In four sections, each edited by a renowned expert, this book answers diverse questions fundamental to the successful design and implementation of mechanical systems in a variety of applications. Manufacturing addresses design and control issues related to manufacturing systems. From fundamental design principles to control of discrete events, machine tools, and machining operations to polymer processing and precision manufacturing systems. Vibration Control explores a range of topics related to active vibration control, including piezoelectric networks, the boundary control method, and semi-active suspension systems. Aerospace Systems presents a detailed analysis of the mechanics and dynamics of tensegrity structures Robotics offers encyclopedic coverage of the control and design of robotic systems, including kinematics, dynamics, soft-computing techniques, and teleoperation. Mechanical systems designers and engineers have few resources dedicated to their particular and often unique problems. The Mechanical Systems Design Handbook clearly shows how theory applies to real world challenges and will be a welcomed and valuable addition to your library.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexibility is as acceptable an objective for today's industrial community as is automation. Thus, the title of this conference proceedings volume - Flexible Automation - reflects an added emphasis to the usual industrial automation. As with general automation that has impacted every component of the manufacturing office and plant, the identity of flexible automation can possess various forms and functions. The papers in this volume have been grouped into two main categories. One category deals with implementation of so-called "intelligent manufacturing". This means use of algorithmic methods and artificial intelligence approaches to various problems encountered in practical factory automation tasks. The placement of papers into five chapters of this part cannot be very precise, due to multidisciplinary nature and constant rapid change of the field. The categories are arranged starting from problems of enhancement of current factory settings, and followed by the papers addressing more specific issues of production planning, process technology and product engineering. The fifth chapter contains papers on the very important aspects of factory automation - problems of design, simulation, operation and monitoring of manufacturing cells.
