Quelles intelligences – effets de connaissance, d'intelligibilité ou de vérité – attendre de la confrontation de la première définie par la cohérence et de la seconde vouée au flou ? Après d'autres, l'ouvrage se veut une contribution à l'instruction de cette question, marquée par un souci d'offrir au lecteur une pluralité de prises sur ses dimensions cognitives. Dans son prologue, il trouvera sous la forme d'un débat entre cinq chercheurs comparatistes reconnus une introduction vivante aux grands thèmes des rapports entre la recherche en sciences sociales et la politique dans leurs dynamiques contemporaines. Parcourant le paysage varié de la protection sociale, onze études de cas offrent trois registres de réflexivité sur les configurations d'expertise. Comment les envisager, avec le recul temporel, comme des succès ponctuels pour les sciences sociales ?
