Book excerpt: Experimental and theoretical studies of low speed leading edge boundary layer receptivity to free-stream vorticity produced by upstream wires normal to the leading edge are discussed. Data include parametric variations in leading edge configuration and details of the incident disturbance field including single and multiple wakes. The induced disturbance amplitude increases with increases in the leading edge diameter and wake interactions. Measurements agree with the theory of M. E. Goldstein.Kogan, M. N. and Shumilkin, V. Book Synopsis Laminar-Turbulent Transition by : D. Arnal
Download or read book Laminar-Turbulent Transition written by D. Arnal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of laminar-turbulent transition is of considerable practical importance and has a wide range of engineering applications. For this reason, the International Union of Applied Mechanics decided to sponsor a third Symposium on "Laminar-Turbulent Transition", which would be organised by the ONERA Toulouse Research Center and held at "Ecole Nationale Superieure de l'Aeronautique et de l'Espace" in 1989. It was supposed that like the two previous IUTAM Symposia (Stuttgart 1979 and Novosibirsk 1984) the symposium would be devoted to experimental of laminar-turbulent transition In fluids, i.e. the and theoretical studies physical problem of transition and mathematical modelling in shear flows. The contributed papers were selected by the Scientific Committee from extended abstracts. The larger number of highly qualified papers submitted for presentation led us to include in the program poster sessions, which could be held during morning, lunch and afternoon breaks, and to take the decision that the symposium should last five days (from Monday 11 to Friday 15 September). An excursion on Wednesday offering a well deserved rest and the occasion of new personal exchanges between the participants seems to have been appreciated by all. The symposium consisted of 8 invited lectures and 62 contributed pa pers presented either on oral or poster sessions.

Book Synopsis Stability and Transition in Shear Flows by : Peter J. Schmid
Download or read book Stability and Transition in Shear Flows written by Peter J. Schmid and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed look at some of the more modern issues of hydrodynamic stability, including transient growth, eigenvalue spectra, secondary instability. It presents analytical results and numerical simulations, linear and selected nonlinear stability methods. By including classical results as well as recent developments in the field of hydrodynamic stability and transition, the book can be used as a textbook for an introductory, graduate-level course in stability theory or for a special-topics fluids course. It is equally of value as a reference for researchers in the field of hydrodynamic stability theory or with an interest in recent developments in fluid dynamics. Stability theory has seen a rapid development over the past decade, this book includes such new developments as direct numerical simulations of transition to turbulence and linear analysis based on the initial-value problem.

Book excerpt: Written by experts in the field, this book, "Boundary Layer Flows - Theory, Applications, and Numerical Methods" provides readers with the opportunity to explore its theoretical and experimental studies and their importance to the nonlinear theory of boundary layer flows, the theory of heat and mass transfer, and the dynamics of fluid. With the theory's importance for a wide variety of applications, applied mathematicians, scientists, and engineers - especially those in fluid dynamics - along with engineers of aeronautics, will undoubtedly welcome this authoritative, up-to-date book.
Book Synopsis Turbulence Models and Their Application by : Tuncer Cebeci
Download or read book Turbulence Models and Their Application written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-12-04 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a brief review of the more popular turbulence models, the author presents and discusses accurate and efficient numerical methods for solving the boundary-layer equations with turbulence models based on algebraic formulas (mixing length, eddy viscosity) or partial-differential transport equations. A computer program employing the Cebeci-Smith model and the k-e model for obtaining the solution of two-dimensional incompressible turbulent flows without separation is discussed in detail and is presented in the accompanying CD.
