Book Synopsis Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac arrest can strike a seemingly healthy individual of any age, race, ethnicity, or gender at any time in any location, often without warning. Cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in the United States, following cancer and heart disease. Four out of five cardiac arrests occur in the home, and more than 90 percent of individuals with cardiac arrest die before reaching the hospital. First and foremost, cardiac arrest treatment is a community issue - local resources and personnel must provide appropriate, high-quality care to save the life of a community member. Time between onset of arrest and provision of care is fundamental, and shortening this time is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of death and disability from cardiac arrest. Specific actions can be implemented now to decrease this time, and recent advances in science could lead to new discoveries in the causes of, and treatments for, cardiac arrest. However, specific barriers must first be addressed. Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival examines the complete system of response to cardiac arrest in the United States and identifies opportunities within existing and new treatments, strategies, and research that promise to improve the survival and recovery of patients. The recommendations of Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival provide high-priority actions to advance the field as a whole. This report will help citizens, government agencies, and private industry to improve health outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest across the United States.

Book Synopsis Updates on Cardiac Defibrillation, Cardioversion and AED Development by : Endre Zima
Download or read book Updates on Cardiac Defibrillation, Cardioversion and AED Development written by Endre Zima and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Updates on Cardiac Defibrillation, Cardioversion and AED Development delves deeply into the multifaceted world of arrhythmia treatment. Through various approaches, the chapters show a wide array of electrical and pharmacological methods to restore normal sinus rhythm in tachyarrhythmic cases. From the historical perspective of the first use of direct current electrical cardioversion to the effective deployment of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public-access defibrillation programs, this book underscores the crucial role of timely intervention. Focusing on atrial arrhythmias, the impact of tachyarrhythmia on heart function is highlighted and potential breakthroughs of cardioversion drugs are introduced. In the context of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, the book uncovers treatment strategies, emphasizing the innovative cardiac myosin modulation. The chapter on the effectors of transthoracic impedance and their significant influence on electrical intervention success rate urges personalized optimization methods for increased efficiency. Collectively, these chapters provide a comprehensive overview of various aspects of arrhythmia treatment, presenting advancements, challenges, and strategies to enhance patient outcomes in the dynamic landscape of acute cardiology care.

Book Synopsis Clinical Pathways in Emergency Medicine by : Suresh S David
Download or read book Clinical Pathways in Emergency Medicine written by Suresh S David and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 823 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide condensed and crystallised knowledge, providing the rationale for investigations and interventions. Emergency medicine is a specialty where time and knowledge are critical factors in deciding appropriate management which could otherwise result in loss of life or limb. The challenge often is to have lucid management plans, whilst standing at the bedside of the patient. In order to address this challenge, a manuscript is needed which aims to enhance the clinical skills of the emergency physician. The objective of this book is to compile a road map for practitioners of emergency medicine, which would guide them through algorithm-based pathways. This format is distinctive by nature for its concise presentation, which facilitates easy reading and early application. Written by global experts, this book aims to be a truly international representation of emergency physicians who have come together to deliver contemporary concepts in emergency patient care.
