Book excerpt: The world is on the verge of fully ushering in the fourth industrial revolution, of which artificial intelligence (AI) is the most important new general-purpose technology. Like the steam engine that led to the widespread commercial use of driving machineries in the industries during the first industrial revolution; the internal combustion engine that gave rise to cars, trucks, and airplanes; electricity that caused the second industrial revolution through the discovery of direct and alternating current; and the Internet, which led to the emergence of the information age, AI is a transformational technology. It will cause a paradigm shift in the way’s problems are solved in every aspect of our lives, and, from it, innovative technologies will emerge. AI is the theory and development of machines that can imitate human intelligence in tasks such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and human language translation. This book provides a complete overview on the deep learning applications and deep neural network architectures. It also gives an overview on most advanced future-looking fundamental research in deep learning application in artificial intelligence. Research overview includes reasoning approaches, problem solving, knowledge representation, planning, learning, natural language processing, perception, motion and manipulation, social intelligence and creativity. It will allow the reader to gain a deep and broad knowledge of the latest engineering technologies of AI and Deep Learning and is an excellent resource for academic research and industry applications.

Download or read book Artificial Neural Networks in Chemical Engineering written by Angelo Bruno Basile and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Hybrid Neural (HN) models: two effective tools, which can be exploited to design and control industrial processes. Different topics including modeling, simulation and process design are covered. More efficient analyses and descriptions of real case studies, ranging from membrane technology to the obtaining of second-generation biofuels are also provided. One of the major advantages of the described techniques is represented by the possibility of obtaining accurate predictions of complex systems, whose behaviors might be difficult to describe by conventional first-principle models. One of the major impacts of the present book is to show the true interactions and interconnectivities among different topics belonging to chemical, bio-chemical engineering, energy, bio-processes and bio-technique research fields. Some of the main goals are here are to provide a deep and detailed knowledge about the main features of both ANN and HN models, and to iterate possible topologies to integrate in these ANN and mechanistic models; to cover a wide spectrum of different problems as well as innovative and unconventional modeling techniques; to show how various kinds of advanced models can be exploited either to predict the behavior or to optimize the performance of real processes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this highly regarded text has been substantially expanded. Part VI "Applications" is updated from 12 to 21 examples with a new focus on applications in the area of drug design. From reviews of the first edition: ?This book offers a sound introduction to artificial neuronal networks, with insights into their architecture, functioning, and applications, which is intended not only for chemists... The excellent quality of the contents and the presentation should ensure that it reaches a wide international readership.?(Angewandte Chemie) 'One of the most useful aspects of the book is a walk-through of the whole process for each application: experimental design, choice and organization of the data, selection of network architecture and parameters, and analysis of the results... The careful approach embodied in this book is an antidote to the hype which has attended neuronal networks in recent years.' (Journal of the American Chemical Society) '... highly recommended ... could become a scientific bestseller ...' (Spectroscopy Europe) 'The attractive and clear presentation of this book make it recommendable to the complete novice.' (The Analyst) 'We strongly recommend it for library purchase and it will be a useful text for lecture courses.' (Chemistry & Industry)

Download or read book Applications of Neural Networks in Chemical Engineering written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expert systems are known to be useful in capturing expertise and applying knowledge to chemical engineering problems such as diagnosis, process control, process simulation, and process advisory. However, expert system applications are traditionally limited to knowledge domains that are heuristic and involve only simple mathematics. Neural networks, on the other hand, represent an emerging technology capable of rapid recognition of patterned behavior without regard to mathematical complexity. Although useful in problem identification, neural networks are not very efficient in providing in-depth solutions and typically do not promote full understanding of the problem or the reasoning behind its solutions. Hence, applications of neural networks have certain limitations. This paper explores the potential for expanding the scope of chemical engineering areas where neural networks might be utilized by incorporating expert systems and neural networks into the same application, a process called hybridization. In addition, hybrid applications are compared with those using more traditional approaches, the results of the different applications are analyzed, and the feasibility of converting the preliminary prototypes described herein into useful final products is evaluated. 12 refs., 8 figs.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accelerated use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in Chemical and Process Engineering has drawn the attention of scientific and industrial communities, mainly due to the Big Data boom related to the analysis and interpretation of large data volumes required by Industry 4.0. ANNs are well-known nonlinear regression algorithms in the Machine Learning field for classification and prediction and are based on the human brain behavior, which learns tasks from experience through interconnected neurons. This empirical method can widely replace traditional complex phenomenological models based on nonlinear conservation equations, leading to a smaller computational effort ,Äì a very peculiar feature for its use in process optimization and control. Thereby, this chapter aims to exhibit several ANN modeling applications to different Chemical and Process Engineering areas, such as thermodynamics, kinetics and catalysis, process analysis and optimization, process safety and control, among others. This review study shows the increasing use of ANNs in the area, helping to understand and to explore process data aspects for future research.
