Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God’s original design for marriage is under attack. Activists have used the media, political correctness, and the courts to advance LGBT and same-sex marriage agendas. In 2015, the United States Supreme Court granted the right to same-sex marriage. To help redirect the immoral trends, Christians must know God’s original design for marriage and vote their conscience. In “Recalculating” Marriage, author Edward W. Kaleefey explores the need for an infallible moral authority regarding marriage and related issues— such as arranged marriages, celibacy, monogamy and polygamy, divorce and remarriage, and same-sex marriage—Kaleefey shows how same-sex marriage is neither rational, logical, nor moral. Thus, Christians should stop supporting sexual immorality, stand for sexual purity in marriage, and start reshaping society’s view of marriage according to God’s will. “Recalculating” Marriage emphasizes the objective, infallible authority of God’s Word, and it provides a timely and comprehensive treatment of marriage and related issues of sexuality and human relationships. Believers will be informed, challenged, and importantly, motivated to express biblically based convictions in the market place and at the ballot box.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divorce is not the biggest threat to marriage. Discouragement is. You’ve probably heard the grim facts: Half of all marriages end in divorce. The divorce rate inside the church is the same as outside. Most marriages are just holding on. But what if these “facts” are actually myths? In The Good News About Marriage, best-selling author Shaunti Feldhahn presents groundbreaking research that reveals the shocking, incredibly inspiring truth: · The actual divorce rate has never gotten close to 50 percent. · Those who attend church regularly have a significantly lower divorce rate than those who don’t. · Most marriages are happy. · Simple changes make a big difference in most marriage problems. · Most remarriages succeed. For too long, our confidence in marriage has been undermined by persistent misunderstandings and imperfect data. This landmark book will radically change how we think and talk about marriage—and what we can dare to hope from it. “Shaunti takes aim at marriage myths that have spread like a cancer through our culture–myths that have become self-fulfilling prophecies. This book is packed with game-changing revelations. Like this one: Not only are most people staying married, they are happy in their marriages!” –Emerson Eggerichs, best-selling author of Love and Respect

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with models that can capture the behavior of individuals and groups over time. Organizationally, it is divided into three parts. Part I discusses the basic, decrement-only, life table and its associated stable population. Part II examines multistate (or increment-decrement) models and provides the first comprehensive treatment of those extremely flexible and useful life table models. Part III looks at "two-sex" models, which simultaneously incorporate the marriage or fertility behavior of males and females. Those models are explored more fully and completely here than has been the case to date, and the importance of including the experience of both sexes is demonstrated analytically as weil as empirically. In sum, this book considers a broad range of population models with a view to showing that such models can be eminently calculable, clearly interpretable, and analytically valuable for the study of many kinds of social behavior. Four appendixes have been added to make the book more usable. Appendix A provides abrief introduction to calculus and matrix algebra so that readers can understand, though not necessarily derive, the equations presented. Appendix B provides an index of the principal symbols used. Appendix C gives the answers to the exercises found at the end of each chapter. Those exercises should be seen as an extension of the text, and are intended to inform as weil as to challenge.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistics for Social Understanding: With Stata and SPSS introduces students to the way statistics is used in the social sciences--as a tool for advancing understanding of the social world. Written in an engaging and clear voice and based on the latest research on the teaching and learning of quantitative material, the text is geared to introductory students in the social sciences, including those with little quantitative background. It covers the conceptual aspects of statistics even when the mathematical details are minimized. Informed by research on teaching and learning in statistics, the book takes a universal design approach to accommodate diverse learning styles. With an early chapter on cross-tabulation, a focus on comparisons between groups throughout, and a unique chapter on causality, the text shows students the power of statistics for answering important real-world questions. By providing thorough coverage of social science statistical topics, a balanced approach to calculation, and step-by-step directions on how to use statistical software, authors Nancy Whittier, Tina Wildhagen, and Howard J. Gold give students the ability to analyze data and explore and answer exciting questions. To accommodate changing undergraduate courses, the text incorporates examples from both Stata and SPSS in every chapter andprovides practice problems of every type as well as readily available datasets for classroom use, including the General Social Survey, American National Election Study, and more. Each chapter concludes with a chapter summary, a section on using Stata, a section on using SPSS, and practice problems. Statistics for Social Understanding: With Stata and SPSS is accompanied by a learning package, written entirely by Tina Wildhagen, that is designed to enhance the experience of both instructors and students. Author-written ancillaries ensure that supplementary materials match the text in voice, language, and content.
