Book Synopsis On the Logos: A Naïve View on Ordinary Reasoning and Fuzzy Logic by : Enric Trillas
Download or read book On the Logos: A Naïve View on Ordinary Reasoning and Fuzzy Logic written by Enric Trillas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-05 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an inspiring and naïve view on language and reasoning. It presents a new approach to ordinary reasoning that follows the author’s former work on fuzzy logic. Starting from a pragmatic scientific view on meaning as a quantity, and the common sense reasoning from a primitive notion of inference, which is shared by both laypeople and experts, the book shows how this can evolve, through the addition of more and more suppositions, into various formal and specialized modes of precise, imprecise, and approximate reasoning. The logos are intended here as a synonym for rationality, which is usually shown by the processes of questioning, guessing, telling, and computing. Written in a discursive style and without too many technicalities, the book presents a number of reflections on the study of reasoning, together with a new perspective on fuzzy logic and Zadeh’s “computing with words” grounded in both language and reasoning. It also highlights some mathematical developments supporting this view. Lastly, it addresses a series of questions aimed at fostering new discussions and future research into this topic. All in all, this book represents an inspiring read for professors and researchers in computer science, and fuzzy logic in particular, as well as for psychologists, linguists and philosophers.
Book Synopsis On Logical, Algebraic, and Probabilistic Aspects of Fuzzy Set Theory by : Susanne Saminger-Platz

This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a collection of contributions by leading experts, developed around traditional themes discussed at the annual Linz Seminars on Fuzzy Set Theory. The different chapters have been written by former PhD students, colleagues, co-authors and friends of Peter Klement, a leading researcher and the organizer of the Linz Seminars on Fuzzy Set Theory. The book also includes advanced findings on topics inspired by Klement’s research activities, concerning copulas, measures and integrals, as well as aggregation problems. Some of the chapters reflect personal views and controversial aspects of traditional topics, while others deal with deep mathematical theories, such as the algebraic and logical foundations of fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic. Originally thought as an homage to Peter Klement, the book also represents an advanced reference guide to the mathematical theories related to fuzzy logic and fuzzy set theory with the potential to stimulate important discussions on new research directions in the field.
Book Synopsis Razón e incertidumbre by : Carlos Pereda
Download or read book Razón e incertidumbre written by Carlos Pereda and published by Siglo XXI. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Fuzzy Logic written by Enric Trillas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-12 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to fundamental concepts in fuzzy logic. It describes the necessary theoretical background and a number of basic mathematical models. Moreover, it makes them familiar with fuzzy control, an important topic in the engineering field. The book offers an unconventional introductory textbook on fuzzy logic, presenting theory together with examples and not always following the typical mathematical style of theorem-corollaries. Primarily intended to support engineers during their university studies, and to spark their curiosity about fuzzy logic and its applications, the book is also suitable for self-study, providing a valuable resource for engineers and professionals who deal with imprecision and non-random uncertainty in real-world applications.
Book Synopsis The Future of Complexity by : Peter Baofu
Download or read book The Future of Complexity written by Peter Baofu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to the conventional wisdom held by many contemporaries in our time, the popularity of studying complexity is fast becoming a new fad in the intellectual scene. However, can the study of complex phenomena truly reveal recognizable patterns (with predictable outcomes) to enhance our understanding of reality, especially when it is embedded within the messy web of complexity? If so, what then are the limits? This book strives to demolish some of the myths surrounding the nature of complexity and, in the process, to provide an original theory to understand it in this world and beyond. It introduces the author's dialectic theory of complexity, together with the theoretical debate in the literature. It expounds on the concept of complexity from various perspectives, including chemistry, micro- and macro-physics, biology and psychology. It also examines the nature of complexity from societal and cultural perspectives. This book presents a broad view on the nature of complexity, adequately introducing the reader to this emerging field.
Download or read book Episentido 4 written by Hilario Casarin and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-08-29 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Leopard in the Sun by : Laura Restrepo
Download or read book Leopard in the Sun written by Laura Restrepo and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2000-09-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Laura Restrepo's stunning novel, a feud between two Colombian drug families escalates into a bloody, high-stakes war that will leave no one in its path untouched. The Barragáns and the Monsalves are rival clans, each steeped in wealth and power, each subject only to laws of their own making. The similarities end there. While the Barragáns, headed by the brutal Nando, remain tied to the ancient traditions, the Monsalves grapple with whether or not to follow Mani, their charismatic and conflicted leader, into a modern age in which even fewer rules apply. As both clans ponder the profits they might reap from an expanding global cocaine trade, Nando and Mani are faced with the consequences of their violent pasts--and forced, by their disillusioned women and the prices on their heads, to reckon with the possibility that nothing will be left once all their bullets have found their targets. Rife with sensual detail, this epic story of lust, betrayal, and revenge is as timeless as interfamily conflict and as immediate as today's news.

Download or read book Zoe Leonard written by Zoe Leonard and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photographer Zoe Leonard practices a type of cerebral roaming combined with carefully considered observation. For more than 20 years she has crisscrossed nature and culture, cityscapes and museums, always searching for signs that say something about structures, about natural and cultural conditions and the contradictions, parallels and connections between them. Leonard's photographs of anatomical wax figures, fashion shows, trees and fences present figures in sparse black-and-white images that open up visual fields of thought and reveal within them our visible world--the concrete and established structures that make up our reality. Leonard first created an international stir at the Documenta 9 exhibition in Kassel, Germany, in 1992, when she placed black-and-white photographs of female genitalia in the context of a male-dominated museum. Since then, the political aspects of her work have formed a backdrop for her constant struggle with shape, imagery and the union of symbols and content. This is the first book to showcase Leonard's complete oeuvre.
Book Synopsis Towards the Future of Fuzzy Logic by : Rudolf Seising
Download or read book Towards the Future of Fuzzy Logic written by Rudolf Seising and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with a snapshot of the state-of-the art in fuzzy logic. Throughout the chapters, key theories developed in the last fifty years as well as important applications to practical problems are presented and discussed from different perspectives, as the authors hail from different disciplines and therefore use fuzzy logic for different purposes. The book aims at showing how fuzzy logic has evolved since the first theory formulation by Lotfi A. Zadeh in his seminal paper on Fuzzy Sets in 1965. Fuzzy theories and implementation grew at an impressive speed and achieved significant results, especially on the applicative side. The study of fuzzy logic and its practice spread all over the world, from Europe to Asia, America and Oceania. The editors believe that, thanks to the drive of young researchers, fuzzy logic will be able to face the challenging goals posed by computing with words. New frontiers of knowledge are waiting to be explored. In order to motivate young people to engage in the future development of fuzzy logic, fuzzy methodologies, fuzzy applications, etc., the editors invited a team of internationally respected experts to write the present collection of papers, which shows the present and future potentials of fuzzy logic from different disciplinary perspectives and personal standpoints.
Book Synopsis Structural Knowledge by : David H. Jonassen
Download or read book Structural Knowledge written by David H. Jonassen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the concept of a hypothetical type of knowledge construction -- referred to as structural knowledge -- that goes beyond traditional forms of information recall to provide the bases for knowledge application. Assuming that the validity of the concept is accepted, the volume functions as a handbook for supporting the assessment and use of structural knowledge in learning and instructional settings. It's descriptions are direct and short, and its structure is consistent. Almost all of the chapters describe a technique for representing and assessing structural knowledge acquisition, conveying knowledge structures through direct instruction, or providing learners with strategies that they may use to acquire structural knowledge. These chapters include the following sections in the same sequence: * description of the technique and its theoretical or conceptual rationale * examples and applications * procedures for development and use * effectiveness -- learner interactions and differences, and advantages and disadvantages * references to the literature. The chapters are structured to facilitate access to information as well as to illuminate comparisons and contrasts among the techniques.
