Book excerpt: The Bible's prophesies about the end-times can baffle even the most voracious Bible scholars and theologians. Their surreal symbolic imagery and convoluted timelines cause many Christians to make the appalling decision to avoid reading them all together, wrongly believing that they cannot be understood and/or don't apply to them. Rapture Fusion highlights the critical importance that every Christian read and understand end-times prophesy, as it does apply to every believer and can be systematically dissected to reveal a consistent and coherent timeline and description of future events. If you want to understand the most common schools of thought on the end-times and what the Bible really has to say concerning the tribulation, rapture, second-coming, millennium, and more, this thorough and scripture-based exploration of end-times prophesy is for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a careful attempt to explore and “fill in the picture” of the eschatological puzzle using the entire Biblical Scripture cohesively within a conceptual framework of two peoples, Jew and Christian, who are His people of the New Covenant (Jer. 31:31; Matt. 2:28) united under one Messiah as “one new man” (Eph. 2:15). Using solid hermeneutical practices, the author attempts to disprove some major aspects of the Pretribulational “Rapture” theory because it produces a distorted picture of future events regarding the relationship between Jews and Christians. She has organized prophetic past, present, and future events into a logical and coherent sequence that more closely resembles historical reality and God’s eternal plans. At the end, she highlights some of the similarities between Christian and Jewish eschatologies, and then describes the final outcome of God’s purposes with mankind while offering some suggestions as to what Christians can do as they await victoriously for the converging of both eschatologies and the fulfillment of all things.

Book excerpt: This comprehensive volume on the blood-gas barrier (BGB) among vertebrates covers its structure and composition along with aspects of evolution, bioengineering, and morphometry. The book also discusses the embryological development of the BGB, including chronology of events and molecular control in vertebrates; modulation of the barrier function, including cyclic stretch-induced increases in alveolar epithelial permeability; mechanisms of lung vascular/epithelial permeability; transport mechanisms of the BGB, including sodium transport channels; factors affecting trans-barrier traffic of fluids, such as chronic elevation of pulmonary microvascular pressure; stress failure; regulation and repair in acute lung injury; chronic lung disease; and lung transportation. Ten authoritative chapters approach the blood-gas barrier holistically, from basic structure and development to pathology and treatment. Properties of the BGB are discussed in the earlier chapters, followed by prenatal and post-natal development and mechanisms of the healthy BGB. The latter half of the book delves into the pathology of the BGB, analyzing common afflictions and exploring options for treatment, including its alterations during lung transplantation. Intuitively structured and comprehensive, The Vertebrate Blood-Gas Barrier in Health and Disease is ideal for researchers and clinicians interested in pneumology and angiology.

Book excerpt: Lurianics tells the story of a youngish man – one Isaac Luria (namesake of one of the world's great Kabbalists) – who seeks to create a "true work" which will give his life a meaning that is uniquely beyond label. Set on Manhattan's Upper West Side, the novel anatomizes this unlikely hero's ambivalence-racked relationships with a veritable cast of thousands, all of whom have one thing in common – a craving to derail his every attempt to get on with the job. They include: a smugly go-getting kid brother, a hyper-articulate mystery woman, and assorted bosses, co-workers, composers and filmmakers living and dead, ballet stars, murdered doormen, stuff-strutting sparrows, and honey locusts about to bloom. But chaos does not always reign supreme and in the end every encounter plays its part in forcing Luria to confront the ultimate question: Does he have the guts not just to erect his Valhalla (any fool can do that) but to erect it with the only building blocks worth a damn, i.e., the very things befouling the path?

For some reason beyond our comprehension, nature has so created us that we are incomplete in ourselves; neither man nor woman singly can know the joy in the performance of all the human functions; neither man nor woman singly can create another human being. This fact, which is expressed in our outward divergences of form, influences and colors the whole of our lives; and there is nothing for which the innermost spirit of one and all so yearns as for a sense of union with another soul, and the perfecting of oneself which such union brings. In all young people, unless they have inherited depraved or diseased tendencies, the old desire of our race springs up afresh in its pristine beauty. With the dreams and bodily changes of adolescence, come to the youth and maiden the strange and powerful impulses of sex. The bodily differences of the two, now accentuated, become mystical, alluring, enchanting in their promise. Their differences unite and hold together the man and the woman so that their bodily union is the solid nucleus of an immense fabric of interwoven strands reaching to the uttermost ends of the earth; some lighter than the filmiest cobweb, or than the softest wave of music, iridescent with the colors not only of the visible rainbow, but of all the invisible glories of the wave-lengths of the soul. However much he may conceal it under assumed cynicism, worldliness, or self-seeking, the heart of every young man yearns with a great longing for the fulfilment of the beautiful dream of a life-long union with a mate. Each heart knows instinctively that it is only one's mate who can give full comprehension of all the potential greatness in one's soul, and have tender laughter for all the child-like wonder that lingers so enchantingly even in the white-haired.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our world now and throughout history has had conflicting accounts of the nature of God and man's relationship to this cosmic deity. These conflicts have wrecked havoc within the societies of humanity to dangerous levels. Mankind has relied upon his sacred and canonized scriptures to provide doctrinal absolutes for his religions, but these absolutes differ and therefore cannot possibly all be correct, at least in specific contexts. However, there exist a very mysterious book circulating worldwide that does have specific, detailed, and consistent answers to all of our questions. The origin of this book is steeped in mystery and no human author has claimed ownership to its teachings which cover 2097 pages of intensive reading and exhaustive information. This book is known as the Urantia Book and has been placed in the public domain. The Urantia Book takes us from the conceptual locations within our segregated religious heritage and correctively re-calibrates our various belief systems which have been unavoidably limited and distorted by our world-views throughout human history. After its conceptual enhancements and adjustments, the Urantia Book enlarges such informational details into an elevation of more exact universal levels of perception as an advancement of cosmic truth. "Consider What the Angels Say" takes this expansive and intricately complicated book and presents a timesaving presentation of its teachings and gently correlates it with Christian doctrines and other religions as well as human philosophy and knowledge. In this book, the following questions will be answered. What exactly is God and how does this phenomenon relate to infinite reality, the time and space cosmos, other spiritual beings, and our world? Exactly what is the Godhead Trinity and why is it a necessary foundation for the existence of universal reality? What are angels and spiritual principalities? What are their levels and types, and how do they interface and interact between supernatural and human situations? How does the historical Jesus Christ fit into the spiritual dimensions of reality. How is he related to the one eternal God and how is Jesus an integral part of our soul salvation? How was man physically created and what accounts for the variances in human biological races and how does this correlate with the theory of evolution? What is the nature of the human soul and how is it translated into the eternal spiritual realities and how does it exist beyond death and what is its destiny? How did mankind come to develop and organize his cultures and what part did supernatural spiritual beings play in the formulations of man's religious doctrines? Why has there been so much tragedy, hardship, war, disease, and social discord throughout our history? What is the nature of sin and why does evil even exist. Something is not right, what went wrong? In all of the versions of religious theologies and doctrines worldwide, no one book explains the details of these universal mysteries as completely and systematically as the Urantia Book, it is truly a gift from the angels. Consider What the Angels Say is a concentrated effort forged from the heartfelt love and concern for humanity to introduce this majestic angelic book to all who are able to receive and benefit form its supernatural information.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fervent millennial hope has often existed at the heart of Protestant evangelicalism. Varieties of eschatology have exercised a profound impact on the movementÕs theology and history. Although millennialism had a respected lineage within conservative Protestantism, it flourished with enormous energy in the early nineteenth century as evangelicals responded to the threat of the American and European revolutions and the cultural pessimism of the Romantic movement. By mid-century, the millennialism that had first been articulated for the defense of Protestant conservatism had paved the way for the subversion of historic theology and church practice, as a growing confidence in biblical inerrancy and the ÒliteralÓ hermeneutic challenged many of the historical assumptions of the evangelical faith. This volume of essays expands on neglected aspects of the impact of the evangelical millennialism in Britain and Ireland between 1800 and 1880, and includes an essay charting recent trends in the study of millennialism.

Many of the essays continue her exploration of Greek goddess traditions and other aspects of Greek mythology. Others grow out of her ongoing involvement with the thought of both Freud and Jung. The interrelationship between polis and psyche, city and soul, is a central theme of several of these papers, including those that focus on the Holocaust. Various facets of lesbian and gay experience are also examined.

Book excerpt: This is the first book to demonstrate the value of prose analysis - both appreciative and interpretive in its 'evaluations' - across dozens of authors, including Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Don DeLillo, and Toni Morrison. The Value of Style in Fiction is designed not just for students and scholars of the English novel - and its verbal 'microplots' - but also for anyone interested in mastering the art of the sentence by 'writing along with' its finest examplars in a fully descriptive account: a stylistic challenge in its own right exemplified by Stewart's multifaceted critical modelling. Beginning with a state-of-the-field survey of prose poetics, this manual of invested reading concludes with an 'Inventory' of terms (bolded throughout) drawn primarily from grammar, rhetoric, etymology, and phonetics, but also narratology and poetic theory: a glossary whose consultation can help cross-map certain verbal tendencies in literary-historical evolution and its separate landmark writers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume endeavors to make a contribution to contemporary Whitehead studies by clarifying his axiological process metaphysics, including his theory of values, concept of aesthetic experience, and doctrine of beauty, along with his philosophy of art, literature and poetry. Moreover, it establishes an east-west dialogue focusing on how Alfred North Whitehead’s process aesthetics can be clarified by the traditional Japanese Buddhist sense of evanescent beauty. As this east-west dialogue unfolds it is shown that there are many striking points of convergence between Whitehead’s process aesthetics and the traditional Japanese sense of beauty. However, the work especially focuses on two of Whitehead’s aesthetic categories, including the penumbral beauty of darkness and the tragic beauty of perishability, while further demonstrating parallels with the two Japanese aesthetic categories of yûgen and aware. It is clarified how both Whitehead and the Japanese tradition have articulated a poetics of evanescence that celebrates the transience of aesthetic experience and the ephemerality of beauty. Finally it is argued that both Whitehead and Japanese tradition develop an aesthetics of beauty as perishability culminating in a religio-aesthetic vision of tragic beauty and its reconciliation in the supreme ecstasy of peace or nirvana.
