Book Synopsis Post-war Spanish Women Novelists and the Recuperation of Historical Memory by : Patricia O'Byrne
Download or read book Post-war Spanish Women Novelists and the Recuperation of Historical Memory written by Patricia O'Byrne and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2014 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The passing of Spain's Law of Historical Memory (2007) marked the official recognition of the need to confront a violent and painful past. Article 2 makes reference to specific groups who experienced discrimination including religious and ethnic communities; no reference is made to the gender repression endured by women, enforced by a patriarchal regime through its legislation and policies, with the active support of the Church and the Women's Section of the Falange. Revised narratives of the period that have emerged in recent decades have raised issues in relation to the reliability and selectivity of memory, and its ongoing mediation by intervening events. While documentary sources of the period are prejudicial, cotemporaneous post-war testimonial novels provide an invaluable resource in reconstructing the past, particularly the novels of women writers. This book draws on their narrative to reconstruct the female experience of the post-war years and in particular on the writings of novelists whose work has undeservedly been disregarded. Neither the experience of women under Franco nor the narrative of women writers of the period should be forgotten. Patricia O'Byrne lectures in Hispanic Studies and Comparative Literature at Dublin City University.
Book Synopsis Corpus Dialectology by : Elissa Pustka
Download or read book Corpus Dialectology written by Elissa Pustka and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corpus Dialectology combines the fields of corpus linguistics and dialectological mapping. It concerns documentation of linguistic variation and mapping of linguistic spaces and boundaries, while ascribing renewed importance to the methodology and the material itself, especially data processing and statistical analysis. This approach considers phenomena that have received little attention to date, such as migration, language contact, mobility and educational level, as well as the differentiation between rural and urban spaces. Transparently described and intersubjectively comprehensible encodings permit the enhancement of dialectometry in the context of Digital Humanities and further development of linguistic theories of variation and change, as well as different levels of structure (phonology, morphosyntax, semantics). This book contains nine chapters on ongoing corpus dialectological research projects. They discuss current issues of data collection, for example the validity of crowdsourced data, explore challenges and possibilities of data analysis and offer theoretical reflections on virtual Romance geolinguistics.

Book Synopsis Profiling Discourse Participants by : Barbara De Cock
Download or read book Profiling Discourse Participants written by Barbara De Cock and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of discourse is a challenging field where many discourse structures and interactional effects remain poorly understood. This analysis provides a systematic explanation for the way in which discourse participants (speaker and hearer) are construed in Spanish through a corpus-driven analysis of informal conversation, TV-debates and parliamentary debates. It deals not only with person deixis, but with the full range of possibilities speakers choose from when profiling their self or their relationship with the interlocutor. This analysis also offers new insights into the operationalization of the concepts of subjectivity and intersubjectivity as tools for the analysis of person reference and genre comparison. The comparative and corpus-driven approach offers methodological tools for genre analysis that can be transposed to other languages and/or genres. The detailed description of three socially highly relevant discourse types from a cognitive-functional perspective makes this book a useful resource not only for pragmatists but also for researchers in political and media discourse.

Book Synopsis Diccionario comentado de términos financieros ingleses de uso frecuente en español by : Miguel Castelo Montero
Download or read book Diccionario comentado de términos financieros ingleses de uso frecuente en español written by Miguel Castelo Montero and published by Netbiblo. This book was released on 2003 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
