Book Synopsis Stable Parametric Programming by : S. Zlobec
Download or read book Stable Parametric Programming written by S. Zlobec and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimality and stability are two important notions in applied mathematics. This book is a study of these notions and their relationship in linear and convex parametric programming models. It begins with a survey of basic optimality conditions in nonlinear programming. Then new results in convex programming, using LFS functions, for single-objective, multi-objective, differentiable and non-smooth programs are introduced. Parametric programming models are studied using basic tools of point-to-set topology. Stability of the models is introduced, essentially, as continuity of the feasible set of decision variables under continuous perturbations of the parameters. Perturbations that preserve this continuity are regions of stability. It is shown how these regions can be identified. The main results on stability are characterizations of locally and globally optimal parameters for stable and also for unstable perturbations. The results are straightened for linear models and bi-level programs. Some of the results are extended to abstract spaces after considering parameters as `controls'. Illustrations from diverse fields, such as data envelopment analysis, management, von Stackelberg games of market economy, and navigation problems are given and several case studies are solved by finding optimal parameters. The book has been written in an analytic spirit. Many results appear here for the first time in book form. Audience: The book is written at the level of a first-year graduate course in optimization for students with varied backgrounds interested in modeling of real-life problems. It is expected that the reader has been exposed to a prior elementary course in optimization, such as linear or non-linear programming. The last section of the book requires some knowledge of functional analysis.

Book excerpt: This volume, Systems and Management Science by Extremal Methods, is the second in a series dedicated to honoring and extending the work of Abraham Charnes. The first volume, entitled Extremal Methods and Systems Analysis (Springer Verlag, Berlin, 1980), was edited by A.V. Fiacco and K.O. Kortanek. Subtitled "An International Symposium on the Occasion of Abraham Charnes' Sixtieth Birthday," this first volume consisted of a selection from papers presented at a conference in honor of Professor Charnes held at The University of Texas at Austin in September 1977. This second volume consists of papers, to be described more fully below, that were presented in a similar 2 conference held at the IC Institute of The University of Texas at Austin, Texas, in October of 1987, to honor Dr. Charnes on his seventieth birthday. All these papers were written by scholars and scientists whose own work has been affected by the contributions of this distinguished scholar and educator over a long period of time.

Book Synopsis Coalition and Connection in Games by : Silviu Guiasu
Download or read book Coalition and Connection in Games written by Silviu Guiasu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coalition and Connection in Games: Problems of Modern Game Theory using Methods Belonging to Systems Theory and Information Theory focuses on coalition formation and on connections occurring in games, noting the use of mathematical models in the evaluation of processes involved in games. The book first takes a look at the process of strategy in playing games in which the conditional choices of players are noted. The sequence of decisions during the playing of games and observance of the rules are emphasized. The text also ponders on the mathematical tool of game theory in which the differences in the playing of games is seen as influenced by the number of players involved. The manuscript reviews how the von Neumann-Morgenstern theory is used in measuring the conditions on how games are played. The theory points out that games with more than two players call for the introduction of concepts and an instrument in comparison with two-person zero-sum games. The text also underscores the tendency of players to obtain a large share of the payoff, whether playing by themselves or participating in coalitions. The book is a fine reference for readers interested in the analysis of game theories.

Book Synopsis Finite Markov Processes and Their Applications by : Marius Iosifescu
Download or read book Finite Markov Processes and Their Applications written by Marius Iosifescu and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A self-contained treatment of finite Markov chains and processes, this text covers both theory and applications. Author Marius Iosifescu, vice president of the Romanian Academy and director of its Center for Mathematical Statistics, begins with a review of relevant aspects of probability theory and linear algebra. Experienced readers may start with the second chapter, a treatment of fundamental concepts of homogeneous finite Markov chain theory that offers examples of applicable models. The text advances to studies of two basic types of homogeneous finite Markov chains: absorbing and ergodic chains. A complete study of the general properties of homogeneous chains follows. Succeeding chapters examine the fundamental role of homogeneous infinite Markov chains in mathematical modeling employed in the fields of psychology and genetics; the basics of nonhomogeneous finite Markov chain theory; and a study of Markovian dependence in continuous time, which constitutes an elementary introduction to the study of continuous parameter stochastic processes.

Book Synopsis Principles Of Solar Cells: Connecting Perspectives On Device, System, Reliability, And Data Science by : Muhammad Ashraf Alam
Download or read book Principles Of Solar Cells: Connecting Perspectives On Device, System, Reliability, And Data Science written by Muhammad Ashraf Alam and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-07-15 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does a solar cell work? How efficient can it be? Why do intricate patterns of metal lines decorate the surface of a solar module? How are the modules arranged in a solar farm? How can sunlight be stored during the day so that it can be used at night? And, how can a lifetime of more than 25 years be ensured in solar modules, despite the exposure to extreme patterns of weather? How do emerging machine-learning techniques assess the health of a solar farm? This practical book will answer all these questions and much more.Written in a conversational style and with over one-hundred homework problems, this book offers an end-to-end perspective, connecting the multi-disciplinary and multi-scale physical phenomena of electron-photon interaction at the molecular level to the design of kilometers-long solar farms. A new conceptual framework explains each concept in a simple, crystal-clear form. The novel use of thermodynamics not only determines the ultimate conversion efficiencies of the various solar cells proposed over the years, but also identifies the measurement artifacts and establishes practical limits by correlating the degradation modes. Extensive coverage of conceptual techniques already developed in other fields further inspire innovative designs of solar farms. This book will not only help you to make a solar cell, but it will help you make a solar cell better, to trace and reclaim the photons that would have been lost otherwise. Collaborations across multiple disciplines make photovoltaics real and given the concern about reducing the overall cost of solar energy, this interdisciplinary book is essential reading for anyone interested in photovoltaic technology.
