Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Radiology Department is a pivotal part of any acute and/or comprehensive health care facility. The radiologist can no longer just “hide out” there. Matters of imaging are often public concerns, larger in scope than just the scheduling and managing of a series of image tests. Rather radiology is expensive, often intrusive and in some areas earnestly and endlessly controversial. A radiologist must be attuned to these often confounding contingencies. Two recent developments in the monitoring of education of radiologists can be impacted by the content of this book. For trainees in Radiology, and for that matter, for all trainees in every medical specialty in the U.S., a new accreditation system (NAS) has been put into place under the impetus and aegis of the ACGME, the Accreditation Committee for Graduate Medical Education, the body responsible for graduate medical evaluation and oversight in the U.S. Among its many innovations, the NAS curriculum is concerned with knowledge acquired about social and economic issues pertinent to each specialty. It is also focused on improving communication skills and about enhancing quality and safety. In the elaboration of “milestones” for residency education in these issues are codified into focused initiatives that must be addressed by each trainee as he or she advances in capability and seniority within the training interval.

This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a practical nuts-and-bolts guide that is based on the authors’ experience and success in the Radiology Department at the University of California at San Francisco. Academic chairs, especially those recently appointed, struggle with leadership and management. Many have little prior experience in these areas. The material presented here is practical and specific. Each chapter is independent of the others, and the text can be used mostly as a reference tool. The text deals with the major issues facing academic Radiology leaders. The topics selected were chosen carefully and are based on the authors’ collective years of experience attempting to manage their own department but also consult for many others. The first topic is the balance among the three primary missions of an academic department, namely, clinical care, teaching, and research. These three major missions will be described in some depth, with an effort to provide reference materials that, hopefully, will stand the test of time and remain useful over the years to come. In addition, this text will provide guidance about faculty development, departmental organization, marketing and fundraising, and strategic perspectives. It will be of interest to chairs, departmental administrators, vice-chairs and other departmental leaders, section chiefs, hospital administrators and, of course, consultants.

Book excerpt: A complete review for the Registry exam, Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Radiography: The Complete Study Guide and Career Planner, 6th Edition covers the five major subject areas of the ARRT exam in radiography. It is also an effective study guide for many radiography courses! Written in outline format, each review of a subject is followed by questions related specifically to that area. Two mock ARRT exams are included in the book, and online exams include a pool of over 1,400 review questions that may be randomly combined to generate a virtually limitless number of mock ARRT exams. From noted radiography educator William J. Callaway, this edition also provides advice on writing resumes and cover letters, interviewing, employer expectations, and continuing education requirements to help you make the transition to a successful career. Review of the five major subject areas covered on the ARRT exam, in an outline format, helps you concentrate on the most important information. Over 2,400 review questions in the book and online offer practice with a multiple-choice format similar to the ARRT exam. Thorough coverage of digital and computed radiography reflects the increased emphasis of these topics on the Registry exam. Online mock exams let you practice in tutorial mode -- with immediate feedback after each question -- or in exam mode, with feedback only after you complete the entire test. Online study tools include study tips for difficult questions and electronic flashcards with formulas, key terms, and important topics. Book excerpt: Biomedical engineering and health informatics are closely related to each other, and it is often difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins, but ICT systems in healthcare and biomedical systems and devices are already becoming increasingly interconnected, and share the common entity of data. This is something which is set to become even more prevalent in future, and will complete the chain and flow of information from the sensor, via processing, to the actuator, which may be anyone or anything from a human healthcare professional to a robot. Methods for automating the processing of information, such as signal processing, machine learning, predictive analytics and decision support, are increasingly important for providing actionable information and supporting personalized and preventive healthcare protocols in both biomedical and digital healthcare systems and applications. This book of proceedings presents 50 papers from the 12th eHealth conference, eHealth2018, held in Vienna, Austria, in May 2018. The theme of this year’s conference is Biomedical Meets eHealth – From Sensors to Decisions, and the papers included here cover a wide range of topics from the field of eHealth. The book will be of interest to all those working to design and implement healthcare today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical clinically relevant introduction to diagnostic radiology Introduction to Basic Radiology is written to provide non-radiologists with the level of knowledge necessary to order correct radiological examinations, improve image interpretation, and enhance their interpretation of various radiological manifestations. The book focuses on the clinical scenarios most often encountered in daily practice and discusses practical imaging techniques and protocols used to address common problems. Relevant case scenarios are included to demonstrate how to reach a specific diagnosis. Introduction to Basic Radiology is divided into ten chapters. The first two chapters provide basic information on various diagnostic imaging techniques and control agents. Each of the following chapters discuss imaging of specific organ systems and begin with a description of the imaging modality of choice and illustrates the relevant features to help simplify the differential diagnosis. You will also find important chapters on pediatric radiology and women's imaging. Unlike other introductory texts on the subject, this book treats diagnosis from a practical point of view. Rather than discuss various diseases and classify them from the pathologic standpoint, Introduction to Basic Radiology utilizes cases from the emergency room and physician's offices and uses a practical approach to reach a diagnosis. The cases walk you through a radiology expert’s analysis of imaging patterns. These cases are presented progressively, with the expert's thinking process described in detail. The cases highlight clinical presentation, clinical suspicion, modality of choice, radiologic technique, and pertinent imaging features of common disease processes.

These range from x-rays (which have been available for over 100 years) to the highly sophisticated magnetic resonance imaging scanning. The variety of imaging techniques and indeed the quality of these images has improved radically in the past decade and this book attempts to capture the way in which rheumatologists and their colleagues can use a wide variety of techniques to analyse musculoskeletal diseases which are known to exist. This handbook provides the reader with an insight into both which imaging techniques should be applied to particular clinical problems and how the results can be used to determine the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions. It is extensively illustrated with examples of the various imaging techniques and joints to aid understanding, and is organised by anatomical region and specific musculoskeletal disorder to allow easy access to information.
