Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cayman Islands, a British Crown Colony, have no taxes whatsoever on income, profits, wealth or capital gains. The revenues of the Islands are derived from indirect taxes such as import duties and stamp duty. There never have been any taxes, so the absence of income tax is not an artificial absence created by legislation, but a natural one. Companies and trusts in the Cayman Islands enjoy the same tax-free status as individuals regardless of nationality of ownership. This absence of taxes, together with political and racial stability, has attracted the attention of investors seeking tax-free base for their operations. The Government of the Cayman Islands is aware it attractiveness to outsiders and actively encourages investment through the passage of legislation and development of the financial sector. In late 2000 the Caymans government reports that the world's fifth largest financial center (after New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong), saw a 51% increase in company registrations in the past year, with a total of 57,900 on file. 17 new banks were also registered, for a total of 465.

Download or read book The Law of Private Investment Funds written by Timothy Spangler and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-09-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of The Law of Private Investment Funds offers a practical analysis of the legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with the structuring, formation, and operation of private investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, and other non-retail collective investment vehicles. The book provides a unique analysis of these funds on a pan-asset class basis, as well as from a US, UK, and European perspective. The themes of investor protection and fiduciary challenge are considered in the context of the various sources available for investor protection including the substantive rights and obligations under general law, and voluntary and statutory rights of regulation. The author considers the various aspects of running private investment funds against the backdrop of regulation and investor protection. Issues such as structuring and launching, and marketing private investment funds are considered in full. The author also looks at the governance challenge where limited partnerships and offshore companies are concerned. The book identifies governance as a key issue for private investment fund participants and discusses in depth several ways in which managers and fund participants can improve the governance of their funds. In addition it analyses the consequences and impact of the recent global financial crisis on private funds, and the response of the US, UK, and European regulators. The new edition includes increased coverage of best practice and industry guidelines, including the ILPA Guidelines for private equity funds, and the MFA's Best Practices for hedge funds. It also provides discussion of new regulatory regimes in the US and EU, including the Dodd Frank Act and AIFMD.
Book Synopsis Offshore Company Fundamentals by : David Offshorman
Download or read book Offshore Company Fundamentals written by David Offshorman and published by Triangle Marketplace, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything starts out small... The author of this book once heard this mysterious word offshore for the first time, too. And he, too, asked himself questions like: ‘What does a registered agent do?’, ‘How much do nominee services cost?’, ‘Why do I need an apostille?’, and ‘Where is it better to open a bank account?’. It is this inexperienced reader that the book is intended for, and its title speaks for itself. ‘Offshore Company Fundamentals’ contains basic information that is necessary to anyone who, on hearing the word Panama, thinks of a broad hat, rather than of ‘Panama Papers’. However, a sophisticated reader will also appreciate the survey of events and facts without which the topic can hardly be considered properly covered, although they do not exactly qualify as ‘fundamental stuff’: — Panama Papers and other offshore leaks – What data will be available in the era of worldwide exchange of information: sometimes the future looks back at you from your computer screen; — Cyprus deposit haircut 2013, an event that usually makes one lose faith in humanity, but in this case for some reason the only thing lost was money; — How to open a bank account in the new environment? – Learning to fly is easier; — International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), an organisation that is more like an elite Boy Scout task force digging up compromising material on the powers that be if they are in any way associated with offshores; — Where is the nominee director heading? – Wherever he is heading, now you will not be going the same way; — Compliance Officer, a bogey that sophisticated businessmen use to scare children into good behaviour. The more recent popular questions also include: What are CFC rules? Will I need to comply with economic substance requirements? How does the automatic exchange of tax information work? Why set up a trust? Of course, the author could not but cover these highly relevant topics, too. Whether he has succeeded in this and other tasks is up to you to decide!
